Why bot? Being on pace for 60pts playing as a 21yo player isnt that bad no?

We are still banking on thay for the same reason the crybaby Jets fan absolutely want him in a trade, because he's a best thay can easilly reach close to PPG
He paced for 60 points? Why are you lying? You think your exaggeration helps your argument?

The only reason some of us are throwing Dach’s name out there is because he is the ONLY NHL roster player not recently signed to an 8 year contract that has value… which, quite frankly, is a sad commentary about where Montreal is right now.

If that's your take away, you're either not really paying attention or you are looking at a very very small handful of Canadiens fans and pretending you're seeing "a lot."

As this saga has dragged out, essentially since last years draft, it's been an ongoing discussion on the Canadiens board and the overwhelming majority of posters wanted the Canadiens to *NOT* trade for Dubois.

A small, and vocal, handful of Canadiens fans wanted to pony up all kinds of assets, in fact, some, strangely, were really adamant about the Canadiens dramatically *OVER PAYING* to acquire Dubois.

But the fanbase, as a whole, has been very clear that they wanted the Canadiens to avoid Dubois altogether and only explore him as a possible asset *if* he hit free agency, and even then, only at a number that made sense within their internal pay structure.

Pretending that a lot of Canadiens fans are "grasping at straws" now that they are seemingly getting *exactly* what they wanted all along is frankly a bizarre assessment of what is happening here.
There has essentially been zero at stake for the Canadiens during this fiasco. We'll either take the player for a bargain, or we can continue on our rebuild path.

The only "gotcha" moment would be if somehow we gave up serious assets and then signed PLD to a bloated deal. Doesn't look like Hughes is interested in that.

being the better player

Kings are not trading Vilardi and extending Dubois to a big contract to play him being Danault....

The Kings would be making that trade planning for the better part of the next decade, not for next season exclusively.

I don't think, up to this point, that Dubois is a better player than Danault and he's certainly not a better second line center than Danault at this point.

The would be fools to push Danault down and but Dubois at second line centre.

This one is odd because the Jets never leak anything, but this LA trade is pretty much everywhere In the media. All Winnipeg reporters are even talking about it, and the LA player names are out there. It’s weird to see.

That said, I have no clue how this plays out.

The question we need to ask ourselves is this... Are they leaked offers or media spin rumors?

If LA gets him, they likely play Kopitar as #3C. That or move PLD to wing. I can't see playing a $7.5 dollar center on the third line.

Danault has never been and will never be better then Dubois cmon now theres a reason one is paid 5.5 and the other will earn around 8.5

Im not saying Phil is bad i like him he was a big part of the reason we made the finals but PLD has always been the better player

The Habs don’t need to add PLD right now and their offer has reflected that.

But the idea that they would just wait and get him next season for no assets is ridiculous and anyone who thought that would happen need to give their heads a serious shake lol
I think a lot of the "no assets" talk was from earlier on when a lot of us were not familiar with his contract situation. I had assumed that once his contract was up in Winnipeg he was UFA. Him being an RFA changes a LOT.

It's a good question and one I don't know the answer to. I can tell you my hunch is that this was leaked. Pagnotta was pretty clear in his comments about the number of assets going from each team and the specifc names of Iafallo and Vilardi. But honestly, time will tell.

100% agree but fans will ignore the actual context we have been saying for months and almost a year now. It will be a belittle game played by posters on who was right and who was wrong and lots of spins.

Habs are interested but not desperate (Said this 1000 times maybe). We can only offer we can offer and we have a certain cap structure we have in mind during our rebuild.

If he goes somewhere else, good luck to Dubois and the NHL pieces the Jets get. Our rebuild continues.

Montreal didn't have the assets CHI wanted last year for Dach, so they found a third team, and moved what they did have for what CHI wanted.

I wonder if MTL can do the same here.

How do we know that tho if he hasn’t inked anything as far as a contract?

While rebuilding I would prefer selling it for draft picks and prospects than wasting it on a player not needed in the next 3 years or so.
good point. The 5 million cap delta between PLD and Dach is enough to take on another Monahan/Marleau deal during these years.

Flawed. Dubois only recently changed his mind on being open to 5/6 teams on an extension. Prior to that, his message was he wants to be UFA in the summer of 2024.

I was open to both. Trying to trade for him using futures or waiting for the 24 off season. Things have changed over the last month or two so what was said before applies to the context we knew at that point in time.

Cap will grow substantially after this season is over. So I don't think the Monahan/Marleau situation will be plenty. Maybe will take a few years for GM's to spend their space again before that happens again.

Was the cap not growing at the time of the Marleau deal? Just looked it up, the year prior it went up 6% and the day of the Marleau trade it was announced that it was going up 2.5%. We're projecting 5ish percent per year for the next 2.

Seems like a logical guess. Time will tell I guess.
