But he slows the rebuild by helping win more games, if he is any good, resulting in worse draft picks.

OK, so maybe you draft 10th instead of 7th. How long until that 2024 draft pick actually starts playing for the Habs? I sure hope you plan on being competitive before then unless you believe in the Sabres approach of how to conduct a rebuild.

That 2024 draft pick could be used in a trade to get a 2025 or 2026 version of PLD.

Think of the two traded Ottawa just pulled off for Debrincat and Chychrun.

That makes way more sense than burning 3 of PLD's 8 contract/prime years through a rebuild.

So, Montreal expects to be a salary cap team while rebuilding after clearing off their bad contracts in the next year or so?

Interesting.

Typically, that’s not how it is done.
The truth is we don't know what Hughes and Gorton has in mind in terms of managing the cap but it seems like Hughes has or is waiting for all the dead weight contracts to end(besides gallagher cause his lasts forever) and maybe hes trying to do another Dach type trade? Which would be welcomed.

Oh, you’re still banking on Dach being a 2C.

Good luck!
Why bot? Being on pace for 60pts playing as a 21yo player isnt that bad no?

We are still banking on thay for the same reason the crybaby Jets fan absolutely want him in a trade, because he's a best thay can easilly reach close to PPG

If they break the bank on PLD they probably need to trade two and Roy. PLD's cap hit will destroy any depth for the Kings.
They do not need to trade Roy.
After they will trade two of Moore, Iafallo, and Arvidsson they will have enough money.
After PLD is signed for 9-8 million and restricted FA are signed as well Kings will have 4-5 million for new goalie and some physical player.

What assets are they attaching to Morre and Arvidsson to dump them?

They have about 23 million of dead cap space tied to Anderson, Gallagher, Dvorak, Armia and Edmundson, who might be worth a combined 10 million or so. Probably less.

It limits their flexibility now, but they can absorb it now with zero superstars in the roster making superstar level money. That's not exactly uncommon: for example, Detroit was in a similar boat a few years ago when they were exiting their contending phase. It always looks the most brutal at the end, when your team is deteriorating but hasn't yet got any good high draft picks.

In a few years, they'll have that cap space for... well, let's see if there will be superstars there at that point. Doesn't look like it at this moment in time.

I believe Arvidsson value is low first round pick or high second round pick.
I would not trade him if LA had 4-5 million for new goalie and some physical player.

Maybe Hughes had the same mindset as HF Hab fans thinking that they would get Dubois “for free” in a year and therefore would only offer up a weak package to get him a year earlier.

Clearly, Dubois’ camp changed their thinking weeks ago and the offer had to be a lot more competitive. It’s kinda pointless for Montreal to “circle back” if they are unwilling to put a piece like Dach on the table.
Unless it's to drive up what LA pays.

im still trying to understand after watching 100 posts of urs that what changes so much to give a 1st round + a great prospect + Dach for Dubois. Like Dubois will get us to another level of gameplay and easily a playoff team.

Also habs would have to pay 9m for him , a 60 points~ , what a discount.

This is a putrid contract to give to a team that need 2 more years atleast to see playoffs hockey again.

Feel like you are just trying to annoy habs fans that Dubois is worth Dach and more. If it was the case , the trade would have been already done.

Edit : You have been saying the same thing since June 7 , give it a good rest.

This isn't the once in a lifetime opportunity you're trying to make it out to be. I'm sure we can sign a 60 point player to a 70 million dollar deal in a few years as well.

But will he be very interested in playing for Montreal and will he speak French? :)

A lot of Canadiens fans grasping at straws here.

If that's your take away, you're either not really paying attention or you are looking at a very very small handful of Canadiens fans and pretending you're seeing "a lot."

As this saga has dragged out, essentially since last years draft, it's been an ongoing discussion on the Canadiens board and the overwhelming majority of posters wanted the Canadiens to *NOT* trade for Dubois.

A small, and vocal, handful of Canadiens fans wanted to pony up all kinds of assets, in fact, some, strangely, were really adamant about the Canadiens dramatically *OVER PAYING* to acquire Dubois.

But the fanbase, as a whole, has been very clear that they wanted the Canadiens to avoid Dubois altogether and only explore him as a possible asset *if* he hit free agency, and even then, only at a number that made sense within their internal pay structure.

Pretending that a lot of Canadiens fans are "grasping at straws" now that they are seemingly getting *exactly* what they wanted all along is frankly a bizarre assessment of what is happening here.
