Another thing Montreal could offer the Jets is taking on bad contracts.
If the Jets are truly at the point of buying out Wheeler, Montreal could take him without salary retention and deal with him themselves

By acquiring Dubois and giving him an eight-year $9 million contract they are already taking on a really bad contract from the Jets.

Goals are great. Assists matter too. Kempe had a career high of 54 points in 78 games and is 2 years older than PLD and plays a less important position. Looking like a great contract now too.

Even if PLD only hits 70 points consistently going forward that will be a fair contact with the cap going up, because when he's on he's exactly what Kings fans love. If he hits 90 points it'll be a great contract.

Contracts are going to get f***ing stupid in a few years. GM's have been unable to massively overpay UFA's for a few years now

The trade details leaked by some guys, but that had to be figured out first before negotiations were allowed. Once they agree on a trade, then they start negotiating the contract. That's happening now.

Could still not happen, but usually the details don't leak so specifically, just "rumors they are talking" so it seems to be taking longer than normal.
Jets leaked every name. They trying for bidding war. Knowing PLD won't sign in LA

They played their cards wrong. They bet that he was committed to coming home to play for them and bet wrong. He’s someone they clearly wanted. If he’s who you want, then go get him, don’t play games.

Maybe Hughes had the same mindset as HF Hab fans thinking that they would get Dubois “for free” in a year and therefore would only offer up a weak package to get him a year earlier.

Clearly, Dubois’ camp changed their thinking weeks ago and the offer had to be a lot more competitive. It’s kinda pointless for Montreal to “circle back” if they are unwilling to put a piece like Dach on the table.

Only way I see the Habs being in it is pulling off another Dach-esque trade with some of their futures then trading that for PLD, gets complicated and not a lot of time.

Could still end up doing that anyways if PLD isn't an option, get another F closer to the Suzuki/Caufield age.

The Jets don't leak stuff like that, it's whoever Pagnotta and the fourth period have inside the Kings org. Remember the Chychrun stuff?

Friggin PLD nothing but drama around this clown

He's been very undramatic this whole offseason so far.

If you want to think that this in no way hedges concern over Byfield’s disappointing progression, that’s your prerogative Mr. rocket scientist.
Think it obviously does. When they brought him up in January, instead of keeping him in Ontario to further develop at C, it was telling. It looks like they’ve shifted to starting to believe he’s best suited on the wing. They’ll likely revisit playing him in the middle (at camp) for the next couple of years, but it does look like they’ve shifted his development. We’ll know for sure this fall. If he makes the opening day roster slotted in at wing, they’ve made their decision.

So you’re absolutely right. They wouldn’t be willing to trade Vilardi right now, for a C, unless they have a pretty good idea Byfield is ending up on the wing.

The Kings don't leak. The Chychrun rumor was Arizona who lied about Clarke being involved to drive up price.

If it's just Vilardi, Iafallo and something else and PLD signs like 7, 7.5 per that hurts.

If it's those 2 + some other pieces that are decent, or better and he signs over 8, or at the 9, then I'm fine with passing.

It's the would be nice for the Habs to add, but not at that price.

Hopefully for the Jets they some how get Arvidsson. He's an underrated player.

I still have a hard time imagining Dubois in Montreal.

Winnipeg is not gonna let him walk for free. So Habs will have to pay for him this summer or outbid teams at the deadline for him as a rental.

Does anyone else not see a team like LA for example making a play for a guy like him. Bringing him in. Showing him how great it is to play in California then offering him a solid deal and he’s gonna say NO????

Idk guys we’ve heard this one a few too many times. For sure he’d love to play in Montreal but if another good fit swoops in, before Montréal has a chance to sign him for free in 2 summers, I think he’ll sign there…”

This was my post back in March on the Habs board. NO KIDDING he prefers LA. As soon as he’d step out the airport he’d prefer LA.

Brisson would definitely leak stuff for his client but for us to know the players involved i agree that one of the GMs must of talked and im betting its Chevy to see if Hughes would up hes offer and thats not a bad thing his job is to get the best offer for his player so use the media, leak stuff go start a bidding war

A contract number starting with a 7 for PLD would be fair value, but surprising. I think he signs for 8.x average.

At some point Both the Jets and PLD have to either shit or get off the pot. I think both La and Mtl would like to have him but they don't need him. If I am Blake and Hughes, I make my best offer contingent on PLD willingness to sign LT at X to Y M AAV and say that s it. Call me when you can do that.
I think this is exactly why it's been reported Winnipeg insisted on ironing out trade compensation, then granting permission for extension talks. So the extention negotiation doesn't affect the trade return.
