They played their cards wrong. They bet that he was committed to coming home to play for them and bet wrong. He’s someone they clearly wanted. If he’s who you want, then go get him, don’t play games.

But according to the tweet you quoted, Winnipeg doesnt want futures and thats all Montreal has to offer.

Games or not, doesnt sound like Winnipeg had interest in making the deal with Montreal anyway

I feel like you didn't read the paragraph. Winnipeg doesn't want what we have. We don't have NHL ready guys with value to add.

I really like a house but its overpriced in my opinion, lets pay the price and get stuck 24 months down the road being house poor.

Your statement makes no sense...

The Kings want to be competitive now and in a few years.

Dubois helps them compete now, and in 4 years, when Kopitar and Danault are 39 and 34 respectively, Dubois (28) and Byfield (24) will be in their prime. I mean, this is rocket science.
If you want to think that this in no way hedges concern over Byfield’s disappointing progression, that’s your prerogative Mr. rocket scientist.

The reporting had always been that Montreal had been passive in pursuit because he was a UFA next year anyways. It seemed that they were only invested in making a trade if it fell into their lap.

At the end of the day they are unwilling to give up what Jets want. Young NHL ready players like Dach. That is a card they rightfully are unwilling to play- not a matter of playing them wrong.

Can't trade Dach in a deal for PLD- Monahan may not be PLD's favorite player :)

They played their cards right. What good is someone who "wants to come home" if you have to pay heavily through assets and cap hit?

As far as I'm concerned opportunities like this will come up again.

Habs had a chance to essentially, over a 16 month span, turn Ben Chiarot and Alexander Romanov into PLD signed from age 25-32 and blew it.

Never knew I had to be a rocket scientist to say something isn't rocket science...that aside.

Kings staff aren't concerned.

Above average sized forwards take a lot longer to break out in the NHL, this is an extremely common occurrence.

By go ahead, spew all the conjecture you want.

There’s opportunities, yes, of course, sometimes the best deals are the ones you don’t make. But Dubois was their guy. They wanted him.

If he’s your guy then he’s your guy. You go get him. Within reason of course. By now they know what Winnipeg wants, and it doesn’t seem to be a matter of not having what it takes, or else they wouldn’t still be trying. They just didn’t seem to be trying as hard as they should have given their interest.

What makes him "their guy"? His last name?
