I really hope LA backs out. WPG playing games here by not allowing LA to negotiate with PLD.
Good luck with that tactic.
LA might turn around and offer the samething for Lindholm at some point.

For those Habs fans hoping that they don't get Dubois...

When is the last time the Habs actually drafted a C as good as him? Plekanec in 2001, maybe. They also whiffed on two no. 3 draft picks at C in a few years (KK, Galchenyuk).

Are we going to wait another 10 years before they actually draft another good one?
Well they got Suzuki and Dach via trade, there is no specific need to overpay for a center now.

If perceived hfboards value is of any concern to PLD he should go to LA. Just look at Danault, his best year is in Montreal yet never had more value than after his first year in LA.

I’m torn on whether MTL should overpay for PLD (both in salary and assets)

Flawed. Danault had lots of value and the entire league knew it. It's the fans who devalued him because he was in Montreal (both non Habs fans and some Habs fans). I'd say about 33% of our fan base called him just some 3C and not worth more than $4M. Also said Gallagher is the one who made him look good.

Fans also were pumping up KK and wanted Danault gone. They think they are development coaches and KK was being blocked.

No wonder Danault left

What are the chances Dubois is traded before the Draft or on draft day now?

If it's a sign/trade, better hurry and allow teams to talk to Brisson on the extension.

I still think he ends up in Montreal. LA has been supposed front runner for a few days now and still no deal. The longer this goes with no news, the more it feels like it’ll go to MTL.

Hughes is just waiting for Winnipeg to come crawling back…

The contract extension is the biggest hurdle IMO. I would also imagine other teams are inquiring on Scheifele and Helle as well so Chevy must be very busy. Plus also preparing for the draft.

Helle makes more sense to the Kings IMO. They could also ask the Jets to retain on Helle's last year and then the extension comes after. At that point, they can try to keep Kopitar for one or two more years at a lesser cap hit than what he has now.

I have not budged. I was 60-80% Dubois will be with the Habs for a while now. Still 20-40% it doesn't happen. No media report (click bait types) are going to change that.

At some point Both the Jets and PLD have to either shit or get off the pot. I think both La and Mtl would like to have him but they don't need him. If I am Blake and Hughes, I make my best offer contingent on PLD willingness to sign LT at X to Y M AAV and say that s it. Call me when you can do that.

Probably before as they want to concentrate on drafting players and not going through multiple trade/signing scenarios

Agreed. I personally don't recall sign/trades happening on draft day. Too difficult to pull off in a short time frame.

Jets are in a tricky spot. They want an agreed trade before they allow that team to talk to Brisson/Dubois. Well, that's the rumored report anyways. For all we know, some team is trying to get that contract in place as we speak. Seems to be low key today so far.

The tricky part with the Kings is offering pieces (where that gets leaked) and then the extension falls through. Could end up with a disgruntled player still on your team. I do think GM's try to avoid this situation

Am I just way off here or is Dubois just not good enough to deal with all of the headache that is coming with him?

I know Kopitar is old, but the Kings still have Kopitar and Danault as top-6 centers and Byfield probably as a top-6 center in the future. I just don't really see the need here to deal with this, it would make a lot more sense for them to be going after Hellebuyck IMO.
Was thinking the same thing. Perhaps it’s a sign they’re not optimistic about Byfield.

I also think any GM offering something will want it tight lipped. If the extension falls through, they don't want the players on their team knowing they were offered. If the Jets try to leak this info (not saying they are), that gets tricky. Imagine being Blake and your offer is leaked to the media? I'm pretty sure he don't like it (if that happens).

Remember the Patch to the Kings situation? Patch refused to sign so the deal fell through. Fans guessed on what the agreed trade was.

This one is odd because the Jets never leak anything, but this LA trade is pretty much everywhere In the media. All Winnipeg reporters are even talking about it, and the LA player names are out there. It’s weird to see.

That said, I have no clue how this plays out.

If he was from Sask we all know there would be very little chatter.......players and agents use the habs all the time to drive up $$$ when it comes to kids, who were born in Que.

Just reading the tea leaves. With Kopitar and Danault, trading for and signing PLD long term seems superfluous if they believe in Byfield.
The Kings want to be competitive now and in a few years.

Dubois helps them compete now, and in 4 years, when Kopitar and Danault are 39 and 34 respectively, Dubois (28) and Byfield (24) will be in their prime. I mean, this is rocket science.

After the Chychrun drama, it’s safe to say the Fourth Period has a contact in LA’s front office who can’t keep his/her mouth shut.

There’s actually a professionalism to leaking. Like it’s ok to leak that the Kings are close to acquiring Dubois. It’s not ok to leak the names involved in current negotiations. Especially to those you can’t trust NOT to report them.
