Im going to start by saying that I'm a fan of Montreal, I don't want to sound rude, but why is Winnipeg not taking the opportunity to rebuild?
With Helleybuck, Wheeler, Dubois and possibly Scheifele leaving in the short term, the team is bound to have worse results.
They still have a fair amount of high end talent (Connor, Ehlers, Morrissey and Perfetti). They also have a decent collection of veteran D-Men (Schmidt, Pionk, DeMelo, Dillon ), several young D-men and a solid collection of complementary players (Lowry Barron, Appleton, Niederreiter )
If they can get the right pieces back this can still be a competitive team, and hopefully one that has moved past the locker room friction of the last few years. At the very least they are pretty well positioned to a quick bounce off the bottom if their goal tending implodes in the next year or two.
