I think friedman thinks a cheaper 1 year deal this year then he would extend long term jan 1st so kings can get some cap relief this season, doubt that happens most likely just 8 off the start

think the plan is to retool and focus on trades with young players coming back
What stops pld from not signing an extension though on Jan 1st? You know pld doesn't care what others think of him lol

Am I just way off here or is Dubois just not good enough to deal with all of the headache that is coming with him?

I know Kopitar is old, but the Kings still have Kopitar and Danault as top-6 centers and Byfield probably as a top-6 center in the future. I just don't really see the need here to deal with this, it would make a lot more sense for them to be going after Hellebuyck IMO.

Im going to start by saying that I'm a fan of Montreal, I don't want to sound rude, but why is Winnipeg not taking the opportunity to rebuild?

With Helleybuck, Wheeler, Dubois and possibly Scheifele leaving in the short term, the team is bound to have worse results.

This could be the occasion to present to the supporters of Winnipeg that we had no other choice.

I have the impression that the DG would be better received and could save his post by going there with transparency.

Jets still have Josh Morrissey (one of the top d-men last year) and elite forwards in Ehlers and Kyle Connor and a lot of good complementary pieces.

Yep, they certainly could have gone for a rebuild but are just turning over their aging core for new blood and a new culture.

Jets will not be as good but they do have some solid prospects that will soon be knocking on the door.

I don't see him being a headache in a big market like Los Angeles. He just didn't seem to enjoy playing for Columbus and Winnipeg which is kind of understandable, but he soldiered through anyway.

As for Kopitar/Danault, the Kings would be making this trade as a long term play in addition to making their team better now. They could also use Danault or Byfield as a trade chip to improve elsewhere if they really wanted to. Can never have enough center depth.

He has demanded a trade like 4 times dating back to juniors.

As far as I can tell, he's extremely moody and will take any slight discomfort and turn it into a trade request.

With the CBJ, it was "not a strong hockey city" and "Torts".

Not sure what it is with Winnipeg, but it's the exact opposite of those two reasons. I'd imagine in a few years, he'll say it's too smoggy or something.

He just needs to grow up and not feel so pampered.

Sure, if you consider quitting on your team mid-shift “soldiering through”

I wouldn’t be surprised if he butts heads with McLellan. Todd can be a hard ass when he wants to be.

If perceived hfboards value is of any concern to PLD he should go to LA. Just look at Danault, his best year is in Montreal yet never had more value than after his first year in LA.

I’m torn on whether MTL should overpay for PLD (both in salary and assets)'

Which year was Danault's best year? He has scored more goals each year while on the Kings. Had his most points in a season as a King. Not sure what you are perceiving.......

I guess doubling up on your previous high goal total for the year can up your value. ??????
