I'm surprised Montreal has been so reluctant to make this move. They've pretty much had Dubois in their back pocket this whole time, he wants to play there, he's French-Canadian, he's a big center that's already a star player. It checks off every box MTL has been looking for the last decade or so. Now they are probably going to lose him to LA.

Wait why isnt Chevy letting Dubois talk extension ? Kings would be idiots to pay assets specially Vilardi for PLD without an extension
Maybe he knows something about Dubois that he doesn't want the Kings or any other team to know. Time will tell.

LA won't be giving up those assets for 1 yr of PLD.
Hence the fact the deal isn't done. Friedman's emphasis was such that it was definitely not hyperbolic or rumour. At the time of recording 32T the Kings had definitely NOT been granted permission to negotiate an extension.

Not so much lose him but just not willing to overpay for him. We just need to keep rebuilding and not take away from our core in a trade.

Because they’re not offering Dach.

Hughes might be from Montreal, but he doesn't strike me as the type that would capitulate to French media pressures and get the "Great French Hope".

Nothing stops Dubois from demanding 10-11 million from LA.

This is why no matter what his agent said about "other teams", he's still in control.

What drama.....

I'll bet my newly renovated outhouse that Hughes doesn't give a damn about the French factor UNLESS it's the last thing that seperate two players.

It really depends on the ask and the contract he's looking for. He's closer to a top 6 forward than a star player. He has given up on two teams already. French players in Montreal have a ton of pressure to deal with and it's not anyone that can perform under those conditions.

If the Jets want Dach, it's a non starter. In my opinion, it would have to be Dvorak + picks/prospects to make sense for the Habs. If the Kings are more aggressive in their offer, let them have him. Dubois would be a great addition to the Habs, but not at any cost.

So essentially, if the rumors are to be believed at all...Montreal maybe had a little bit of an "oh shit" moment when they realized that the Kings might actually be able to land Dubois, and he might not just walk himself conveniently onto their Habs roster for free? So they're back in the fray looking at a trade to make sure he doesn't just fall in love with Los Angeles?

What time was that at? LA is obviously going to get permission to talk to Dubois' agent before the trade happens. They wouldn't have agreed to even start negotiating the trade if that wasn't promised.

More than anything Chevy's probably slow playing it to give other teams a chance to top the offer.

Jets don’t want or need Dvorak just like Habs don’t need want to trade Dach…that’s why they won’t make a deal

Don't have an exact time but it was this morning. Meaning we've been hearing about PLD to LA being almost done for 2 days without LA being able to talk extension which is weird AF.

The only realistic player the Jets would want from the Habs would be Dach, and it just doesn't make sense for the Habs to trade a package around Dach for Dubois, especially after Dach just had a bounce back year.

The only way a trade gets done is if Montreal can bring a third team in and use their futures to get a young player that the Jets want. Otherwise they don't have a player that matches Vilardi.

Or someone is trying to up his value and the Habs are not budging and the Kings are in stand-bye mode with only hope on their side and Mr Dubois is still holding the cards.

Vilardi has no leverage. He either goes to Winnipeg or a league in Europe if he wants to play next year.
Yeah, but if he starts saying im not re signing longterm and will take the first opportunity to leave, it may take some of the shine off of aquiring him.

Nah... It's really just, since there appears to be a snag in the alleged talks between PLD-Vilardi-Jets-LAK, Montreal came back with something like : "Hey, our offer is still there, you know".

The LAK deal sounds like GM manufactured bs to get Habs to overpay. When a rumor has been out 48+ hours with 0 progress than the rumor was more likely than not fabricated or at least given too much importance.

Just to clarify… the deal obviously wouldn’t go through if Dubois and LA couldn’t settle on a contract. The point of locking in the trade (and being conditional on the contract) is to not have LA snivel back to Winnipeg that Dubois is asking too much and they want to adjust the deal as a result.

In other words, keep these two different activities separated (lock trade comp THEN talk contract).
Jets may want that, but that is not how the buying team sees it. If PLD agrees for 7mil per and the Kings wanted him, they would have to pay a pretty high price for that player at that term. If PLD signs for 9mil per, well there is less value in the trade for the Kings, so less value should go the other way to the Jets.
Could it possibly be Vilardi holding things up with his contract demands, perhaps Pld has agreed a contract extension to go to LA but Gabe hasnt to go to the Jets?
Could be, but not likely, Vilardi is not a UFA next year like PLD. The players are in different situations. Vilardi can be signed for a year and then moved next year. Rights still owned by the Jets.

Another thing Montreal could offer the Jets is taking on bad contracts.
If the Jets are truly at the point of buying out Wheeler, Montreal could take him without salary retention and deal with him themselves

As of Sunday night.

Pagnotta stated today they're negotiating now, so we'll see. They were also the only ones who specified exactly how many pieces and some of the players involved in the trade.
