Fair enough. I just would use a pencil, and not a pen, when putting him up as your 2C.

Uhmmm… Horvat’s contract runs until he’s 36. You’re getting more prime years from Dubois. Dubois will get a similar contract to Horvat.
Then that makes Suzuki's contract insanely good. Suzuki has improved on his point totals / PPG year on year and with a healthy roster next season is poised to break out. I just think a high-end 2C should not be getting anything more than 7.8M (Suzuki value).

If Dubois puts up first line numbers then a 8.5+ AAV is justified.

Great detailed rebuttal showing me how I'm wrong. I've changed my mind now, Vilardi is actually way better than Dubois.

Vilardi has dealt with a lot of injuries that prevented his becoming a full-time NHLer earlier than this past season. You can be concerned about the injury history but the idea that he was "not even an NHL player until this past season" is both irrelevant and and not even factually true. Who makes the NHL faster doesn't really mean much of anything as to the quality of player. But let me guess, you'd take Tyler Myers and Zach Bogosian over Roman Josi, right? At this point neither Vilardi or PLD have lived up to hype. PLD has certainly proven more at the NHL level but it's not all positive.

Man I think Vilardi is garbage would hate paying him over 4 mil on the leafs and feel like he’s one of the most overrated players out there. Hopefully they get something else besides those 2 scrubs.

What are you willing to pay for extended PLD and retained Dillon?
At this point not the price the Jets would hope to get.

Don’t get me wrong as I like PLD but I wait a year and see how everything plays out with not only PLD but with Matthews.

I would really hate to acquire PLD if it contract blocks Matthews a year later. I know everyone says that Kopitar is $10 million comes off the books as does Avridsson’s 4 mil, but I can’t see Matthew sign in for under 15 million Kings would still have to find extra money.

Byfield, and Kaliyev also would be coming off their entry-level deals and Roy would have to be re-signed. We would also have no goalies under contract.

If we include a Arvidsson in the deal for POD and we’re losing just as many points as we’re bringing in

The rumored ask starts with Vilardi and Iafallo. I like both players, but Iafallo is redundant with the players we have and I do think PLD is a better player than Vilardi.

Winnipeg will not retain on a long-term contract nor should they. I just don’t see how we make the trade work without sacrificing future endeavors.

In a perfect world, a treat is made, but it would Iafallo for Dillon.

I know the fans in Winnipeg are awesome, and the environment in the arena is awesome and they deserve the best team possible. I just hope the owner doesn’t sell out everything at bargain tag prices.

At the same time I hope our GM doesn’t do anything stupid that gives us a massive strength in one area, but leaves a short in two others

After drafting three centers in the top 13 and still haven’t Kopitar and Danault on the roster. It would really hurt to have to trade for another center when we have bigger issues in goal.

Jets are thin on RHD prospects. Would you include Spence for Dillon at 50%?
No sorry. Our team is not a contender and I don’t want our GM trading away our top prospects on UFAs at this point.

I say this in fun, but there is an 8,000 post thread on the Habs board about Pierre Luc Dubois, a player who has never played for the Habs.
All scenarios were thoroughly analyzed from all possible angles...no concensus:laugh:

Should see what other players who were rumoured to go Montreal had like Hossa/Sundin.

Yeah, no. It's just "when healthy". There's a narrative about him that gets fed into every time he has a bad shift and it's ridiculous. He didn't want to be in Winnipeg this year and he played his ass off and was over a point per game until he got hurt. He can be a little frustrating in the defensive zone at times but a proper coach and system might be able to help with that.

By god that's Todd McClellan's music

Suzuki’s contract is good but he signed his out of his ELC so some of the years bought were cheaper “controlled” years. Even Hughes made that differentiation publicly.

Number 1 center and massive win. You haven't watched PLD play much have you? His numbers are not that of a number 1 center. When he feels like trying he is pretty close to one but that is only when he feels like it. He is a very lazy player. Let's not forget what his new contact is going to be...I doubt it is going to be cheap.

This is not a massive win for LA not even close.
0.9 points per game isn't 1C production? Dubois is 6'4", a great finisher, an underrated playmaker and he just turned 25 a few days ago so there's still some development runway left. Apart from Eichel and Tavares, which centers of Dubois' quality or higher have changed teams in recent years?

This is true. He just turned 25, that means he'll be at least 35 before Montreal is back in the playoffs...
If you take a rationale view on this, its good for the Habs. When PLD quits on LA and demands a trade to Montreal, the Habs will get him in year 2 of the contract at 50% of the caphit. Huge win for the Habs! ;)

Is this a joke? They got to the SC final with Suzuki and Danault. Suzuki, Dach, 2023 1st (if it isn't Michkov) would easily be good enough if surrounded with good wingers and d.
Danault did all the heavy lifting in that run while they also had an elite goalie and significantly better defense than they do now. They were still seen as by far the weakest and flukiest team to make the finals in the last 20 years.

Suzuki and Dach as the top two centers won't get anywhere near a cup

I just don't see PLD as ever being a 1C at this point. Too inconsistent. He has the talent to be but doesn't have the focus/headspace/professionalism to be. Again, just my opinion. He's a 2C right now. Shouldn't get paid what Horvat got.

If PLD turns into a 1C, then my opionin of him was wrong.

Dubois is a good enough player but I dont think LA should be making this deal unless the extension is really reasonable (say, $7.5m tops). I dunno, Dubois just has too many red flags for me to really get excited about him as a core piece.
