This thread should be about the other 4th line forward on the Leafs that can skate, is good defensively, plays one less foward position than Engvall and requested a trade. I never got the love Leaf fans have for Mikheyev over Engvall.

Dubas gets paid well and yet he has given away for nothing better assets than Engvall. Expect that another GM will get a free gift and Leafs get nothing useful back.

I kinda wanted him on the Sens for a depth player earlier in the pffseason, I'd still be open to something like Engvall for Clarke Bishop. Would probably throw in a 7th I guess.
Bishop + a 7th would be interesting. Bishop is ok depth, and the 450k cap savings would give us a little breathing room at the TDL

To what most said, i agree his value would be more at the TDL than now. The main benefit would be the 500k in cap space saved for the TDL, as Engvall is good depth, but about even or a slight upgrade on the other guys we have fighting for a 4th line role

So if we can get a 5th/6th now vs say a 4th in February, id take it now with the extra cap space. If his value is nothing I'd prob just keep him as a 12th/13th F

As a Habs fan he always impressed me. I am a fan of his. He is a competent depth forward in the NHL. Their is no room on the Habs for him though.

His problem is that he is paid 300-500k a year more than what another team will pay a player of their own on an ELC. Realistic value would probably be a 5th round pick for his skills and what he brings. His contract is what will keep him from being good trade bait. Leafs best bet would be to look for a team with good defensive depth and try to trade him for a #6/7 defence man who is making around the same salary as Engvall.

I think a bag of pucks is an overpay. Pucks are going up in price while Engvall has plummetted.

5-6th round pick if we are lucky

man needs to prove he is an actual 4th liner over an extended period of time

At this time, nothing.

Mid round pick, maybe a 5th, in like 6-7 weeks time

Quite honestly I think he is an underrated player and has a unique skillset. Extremely fast for a player of his size and can defend effectively. I don't think he deserves the hate he gets, but it does seem clear his time is probably nearing it's end on this team. I wouldn't expect more than a 6th or 7th round pick, and if I'm a team with roster space and cap room I would take that gamble.

Think his value in a trade might surprise some people. Size and speed tend to sell high in this league. Competent defensively and has got some reps in at center as well. Cheap and still an RFA on his deal's expiry.

Not saying it's super high or anything but I bet Dubas could do better than a 6th or 7th if he wanted to move him.

4th liners have zero value league-wide. Waiver-foder or PTO is their fate.

Ryan Reaves, an objectively worse hockey player at this point, returned a third round pick earlier this summer. So zero value is hyperbole.
I didn’t realize Engvall was the best tough guy in the league. No, he’s a 4th liner with zero value.

If he used his size to his advantage consistently, I could see a team giving up a 3rd for him at the TDL. The only problem his he uses that about once a month.
Yes , that was my exact assumption as well. If he gets off to a decent start he could fetch a low third at the deadline for depth, if he is average or worse its gonna be lower. 4th 5th. Or prospect

Why would anyone give up anything for a dime a dozen 4th liner with no unique skill set? Every team has a number of Engvalls.

Because like I mentioned before he checks a lot of boxes for pro scouts

Size
Speed
Competent defensively
Cheap
NHL experience on a playoff team
NHL experience playing C
RFA on expiry

I'm not saying he's worth a ton or anything. Most teams probably do have someone similar. Maybe they like Engvall more and would be willing to part with a 5th or 6th and a C prospect or something. He's not worth a ton to Toronto because they seem to have a ton of fringey depth players. Just not buying zero value waiver claim.
