“He’s built like a brick shit house “
so what !

“ needs some meanness “
Not going to happen , loved playing against weak minded limp players like him “ , when I caught up to them that is ….

“ skates so beautifully “
So super duper , Ice capades looking for some extras to skate around with animal heads on them for the kiddies ….

“ has a long reach “
Sounds great if he actually did something with that long reach game in game out

“ has a good hard shot “
like that one yesterday , that was awesome , now what when he misses most of the time or puts a weak one into the crest ,

“ great potential “
Tick tock tick tock ok ok !!!!

“ consistency “
A good shift here and there
One ok game every 5-7

“ contract is good “
Great , can’t we bring up other young players that fill at least what he does and more from the minors ?

“ takes the body “
Yes , one shift of every 5 and and that one good game every 5

here’s some things that actually describe this player , game in game out since he’s been up with us

I challenged those points made about this player up top here

now I challenge all of you ….
Let’s be honest with our critique with yourselves without the blue tinted awesome Leaf filters
Let’s say he played on another team …

can anyone please challenge this lower half scouting report , with actual real opposing thoughts and contradictions to the overall consensus from wayyyyyy smarter hockey minds than myself regarding 47

Scouting report
weak minded
Easy to play against
Constantly turns into danger areas when pressured or not
Has a difficult time getting the puck out of our zone
Has a problem getting the puck in deep
Can’t score
Not accurate
Pretends to be tough with his ^*%# ass cheap shots slashes and cross checks after the fact
Doesn’t win a lot of battles
Can’t win face offs
Not a good passer
Hasn’t produced at a NHL level
Does skate byes waving his stick
When he has a chance to use his great speed to cut into the middle of net , he either shoots wide or weak or just pulls up or turns out
Doesn’t stand in front of the net to screen
Is afraid of tough player's in corners
Awful in playoffs when real men come out to play
Can’t use him on the top 2 lines
He would be a ok player on 4th line playing 7-10 min
Better player in the minors
Career minor leaguer
Mistake prone
Doesn’t fight

Please give to The World Giraffe foundation
It’s a worthy cause …
Be kind to animals
Go Leafs Go

Disclaimer;
My opinions and observations are strictly about 47 as a player , not directed to him outside of him as a player on our team
It’s not personal

He's got the size and speed and enough skill to play in the top 9 .. after getting some NHL experience under his belt, he seems to have found some maturity in his game to assert himself a bit more physically, engaged, and have confidence handling the puck.

I don't think he has the offensive IQ to play up in the top 6 but he's certainly showing his potential as a quality 3rd line forward.

Pretty good for a 7th round pick.

The most profound impact of the sudden emergence of Pierre Engvall is the interest & appreciation for Giraffes. Now when I watch any show eg. National Geographic and see a giraffe, I am more engaged then I have ever been. Come on, admit it!!

Coleman in TB: 64 games - 14 goals - 18 assists - 32 points (0.5 ppg)
Goodrow in TB: 63 games - 6 goals - 16 assists - 22 points (0.35 ppg)

Mikheyev this year: 40 games - 15 goals - 7 assists - 22 points (0.55 ppg)
Engvall this year: 65 games - 13 goals - 13 assists - 26 points (0.4 ppg)

In terms of production, they've been similar to the lauded TB third liners. This isn't even including their defensive abilities

You say "similar", I say "better".

@Teeder Keon you must be beside yourself hahaha
Jokes. I know you only want the best for the team.
Lets hope he keeps his scoring touch through the playoffs
I’m ecstatic , over joyed , thrilled , about any player that can help us win the ultimate …
But my process and evaluation can never be shrouded with blue and white tint …
He and any player deserves the condemnation when appropriate and the flowers when earned …
Pierre has played brilliantly for the last 2-3 months
Way to go Grand Pierre and most importantly GLG

Engvall has been excellent all year. Great penalty killer, very good defensively in general. With his size, speed and puck control, he’s a strong possession player too, which is very nice for a bottom 6er. His line has the puck a lot, especially when he’s out there with other big, fast guys like Mikheyev and Kampf.

Most improved this year is his finish - he’s playing a more confident, direct game, and it’s paying off. He’s good a very good shot, and is using it well.

Overall, he’s been a quality 3rd liner. Does basically everything you could want a 3rd liner to do, except fight and lay devastating hits. He’s a decent hitter too, just more in the “separate from the puck” way than “destroy guys” way.

Man, we’ve got some great value contracts right now. Engvall, Bunting, Mikheyev, Kampf, Spezza, Lily, Blackwell, Boosh and Simmonds all signed for 0.725-1.645 mil. Keefe has done a pretty great job putting cheap but good supporting players around our pricey core, and Engvall is certainly part of that.

He’s always been good except when he was stapled to jumbo joe which was most of last season. Everytime he moved up in the lineup that line was always good even in the playoffs

I've never been a big fan. And I don't recall perfectly, but I may have even ragged on him when he signed his current contract.

But he has been making a real positive impact this season. I have serious faith that this guy can keep that up in the playoffs.

That snipe on Vasilevskiy was fantastic.

I get why people underrated him - he's a big guy who's not a big hitter, and he's a guy who is always on the puck but doesn't have the high end skill to turn thar possession into scoring chances - two things which frustrate fans immensely.

But I want people to learn from this - always being on the puck is a good thing regardless if you have the skill to turn it into consistent offense - I.e. even if it looks like you're "wasting" opportunities all over the place. And being huge, long, and fast is extremely valuable regardless of whether you hit or fight.

Engvall's value was always there to see imo, even when stuck in a position that was probably beyond him (center) and stuck with bad 4th line linemates.

Whenever he had 3rd line opportunities, even at the start, he was always very effective Imo.
