I just want to go on record.... Me, myself and I came up the the name GIRAFFE for Engvall.

I mean, its getting ridiculous... Dangle is openly calling him the Giraffe...

Zeke is a genius, this board is over lucky having him, but no calf Schenn, cool, take it..

But I am calling Giraffe as mine.... I have followed and loved this kid since the seventh round.

Great to see him finally loved...... I could have called him the octopus and that might have stuck.

But the giraffe is mine gang... Love him, seventh rounder.....

Such a good player.

Like I told y'alll

This team, is a great team...

Who the heck knows where this goes and ends up...

But entertaining? Such a great team...

Sure, we could lose first round... But what a team...

We have Kwahi with a moustache that I would be embarassed to walk around a dead end street. But the guy, might be the best player, to ever play in the NHL, and his linemate? Might keep him a Leaf.

I am just enjoying the crap out of this.....

Its crazy fun, we are soooo gooood..

If we win the Stanley Cup, don't come. The streets will go wild. It will be too dangerous imo......

Marner and Matthews........... Too good, love to see Mitch grow a bad moustache...

Btw, seems like Nylander and Marner are buds again, woof more watch out....

Oh ok. So you have nothing of substance to contribute. Move along
Dude, you asked for "sources" on what is speculative and subjective analysis. The source of my opinion is...uh, me.

You also immediately jumped to assumptions. Do you know exactly which players I was talking about? Do you? No, you don't. And that is laughable.

Dubas is disrupting, the NHL... Same for Shanahan

Some posters posit that if they get fired, they might not have a job...

May I laugh, and laugh a lot.

They knew what they were doing.

Shanahan and Dubas know... They know talent. They know hockey players, and, well, enjoy.

You have not seen this in decades... But you will now.

Me, and old timer? I am enjoying the heck out of this.

Again, I caution, expectations... We could very well, NOT, win the Stanley Cup.

But, we are a great team, so I don't really care.. I know, when I wake up, I can watch a team, and watch a great team..

I have not been able to that for...... ya, decades, I can say it.

Dubas fired?> hahgahahahahahahhahaha that's rich.

Guy has brought in, huge talent.

If that kid hit the street, offers would be be crazy,

Look at the facility Dubas has Amirov in. I mean, look at it, and the kid is working out.

U think Dubas knows what he is doing? Kid is 30 years ahead and he is doing it smart.

For the first time in my entire life, I know, my Leafs are in great hands. They are going to win, more than they lose.

Heck, when could any Leaf fan say that in the last 50 years:? Teeder Keon?

I can honestly say this, I couldn't give a rats ass that we lost to Florida last night.

Believe me, I have not been able to say that, for, well, uh ya, 50 years.. I don't care.

We are the best team in the NHL nails down. Do we win the Cup, hell if I know, what I do know, is that we are the best team in the NHL.

Dat good enough for me

And ya, I actually like Luke Schenn quite a bit now. Just didn't like the hype...

Engval and mik
If there is any way to keep this two we have to try.
Engval RFA 2 yrs @ 2mil
Mik 3yrs @ 3mil

Trade
Kerfoot
Hall
Mrazek

I honestly see more fire out of Nylander playing with Engvall than when he has to play with JT.

They legitimately have some chemistry and it's easy to understand why as they're fellow countrymen and they were both drafted by the Leafs in the same draft so they've been playing together in some capacity for many years now

Engvall has definitely kicked up his game a few notches, his penalty killing is elite, his speed and size combo is elite, his mind for the game has improved, he's more physical and engaged in the game.

Engvall-Nylander-Kampf is a legit 3rd line with speed and skill, while JT surrounded by Kerfoot and Mik has also looked great

1st time he's had to play with someone prettier than him. Quite the motivator.

Every game Engval and Mik look better to me .. but then I think of last years playoffs and i immediately write off both Engval and Mik
Who was their centre in the playoffs last year? I'm asking mostly because I can't remember, and also to point out that Kampf is likely a better fit with them.

Bunting?
Kapanen?
Engvall?
Mikheyev?
Spezza?
Kampf?

Leafs only overpaid Tavares and slightly on marner.
This topic was kind of beaten up when they were first signed. Going back to when those contracts were done they overpaid on Matthews and Willie as well. They set the market on both those signings. front loaded the crap out of them and still got no term in exchange. AM got 900k less than McDavid who was coming off back to back 100pt seasons and he is UFA 2 years earlier. Mitch earned his deal this year I think, but not the first two seasons and he used AM and JT as his comp rather than other wingers. Willie didn't play for a 1/3 of his holdout year but still got paid for it, and his peers were Pasta and Forsberg, not Draisaitl. To say the club didn't get rag dolled on contracts that first year kind of ignores every value deal signed elsewhere around the league around that time. At the very least all three should have been locked in for 8 years.

I will disagree with those who say KD will automatically get bent over again though. Every player was a rookie once and almost none fail to learn and improve over time. Same for coaches and GMs. If you acknowledge AM and MM are better now than three years ago, why not the GM? The only ugly deal on the books in recent history is Mrazek and I don't think it was Dubas' personal scouting and bird dogging that led to that signing. Whether its pro scouting or his goalie coaches somebody was telling him that Mrazek was going to help the club. I have no idea how Dubas will fare as he re-ups his big three but I'm not using 2019 as a predictor of what might happen. It will get done because it always gets done somehow.

Mikky - Engvall - Simmonds 31min
Mikky - Kerfoot - Engvall 10min
Galchenyuk - Engvall - Mikheyev 4min
Mikheyev - Foligno - Engvall 3min

Isn't it great Leafs fans don't panic and immediately write off players as they are developing?

Coyotes let Bunting go for how much? Just no patience.

:naughty:

Quick Shifts: How patience paid off for Engvall and Maple Leafs - Sportsnet.ca

1. When it comes to hockey, nothing has come fast for Pierre Engvall immediately.

It’s a pattern that stretches back to boyhood.

The first time Engvall’s father took him skating in the Swedish town of Ljungby, he was six years old and didn’t care for it much.

"I tried it just a couple months later, then I loved it," said Engvall, soon after he arrived on this side of the sea to embark on a pro career. Every day, Engvall’s dad would take him to the rink, and now his long, smooth stride is easily one of his greatest attributes.

“I have some skills with the stick, too. I can shoot the puck," Engvall said in that early interview. "I see myself as a two-way player. I’m a big man, so I have to get better at covering the puck. It’s small ice, so you have to be better at that here. Be stronger on the puck and play a little bit more tough."

That early objective — one that hasn’t changed much since Engvall was drafted by Toronto in the seventh round of 2014, when he signed his PTO, through to his Calder Cup and big-league promotion — has finally been realized in a meaningful way this season.

My, how far this handsome gazelle has galloped.

Engvall has dug in. He’s crawled out from coach Sheldon Keefe’s doghouse and skirted his flirtation with the waiver wire. He has established himself as a top-nine forward on a top-heavy roster. No easy evolution at age 25.

Aided in part by Nick Ritchie’s failure to fit and Ondrej Kase’s inability to stay healthy, but mostly by his own work ethic, Engvall has turned himself into a valued penalty-killer, responsible defender, and — most exciting — a legit source of secondary scoring.

Centre David Kämpf may be the anchor of the third unit, but Engvall’s speed and shot have added an offensive wrinkle that should come in handy in May.

Engvall has already doubled his career highs in goals (14), assists (18) and plus/minus (+9). He’s tripled his career best in points (32). Now trusted instead of challenged, he’s averaging more than 13 minutes of ice a night, another personal best.

All of this without the benefit of power-play looks.
