If Minnesota gets a point tomorrow the coyotes are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Its impossible for the Coyotes to pass Det,Col and Dallas... they need Minnesota to lose all 3 games in regulation.

If Detroit beat Dallas its impossible for Coyotes to surpass the RedWings.
If Columbus beats Dallas its impossible for Coyotes to surpass the BlueJackets.

This implies that both Detroit and Columbus have to lose their games against Dallas. But if Dallas wins both of those games it impossible for the Coyotes to surpass the Stars.

Aha! A paradox! Others must lose to Dallas for the Coyotes to have playoff hopes, but if Dallas wins both, the Coyotes can't enter the playoffs. Nothing a little Clarkonomics can't fix! Just stick your head in the sand, click your heels in ruby slippers and and repeat "The Coyotes have playoff hopes! The Coyotes have playoff hopes! The Coyotes have playoff hopes!", though it may backfire and the Coyotes end up relocated to Kansas (The Topeka Tornadoes, Wichita Whirlwinds?) with Bettman and his flying monkeys after little Dorothy.

What happens on May 24th?
It's mere hours away from May 25th!

For those thinking that the coyotes elimination will bring resolve you may be sadly mistaken. May 24 seems to be key date. i will be shocked if the nhl announces anything prior.

I don't think Beacon's RFP deadline means that much with respect to what the NHL does with the latest round of "suitors".

I say that because Beacon is taking in bids for arena management regardless if there's an NHL franchise playing in Glendale next year or not.

NHL is going to completely drive this one this time. They'll decide who they want to take over the franchise, then go with them to Glendale. Glendale will then have to decide if they can work something out, or allow the team (with its new owner) to go elsewhere.

It should be beyond obvious that the NHL will review the radical new wild card playoff format and the wacky new eastern division that puts the Florida teams with Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa etc. These are the two controversial issues within the alignment and they could be tweaked or changed without much opposition from the rest of the NHL.

What will not be easily tweaked is moving an Eastern club back to the Western conference or a Central division team back to the Pacific should the Coyotes move to Quebec. The league went to unbalanced conferences of 16 and 14 teams for a reason. They want
divisions based on time zones. 17 in the east does not work and they do not want to move any teams west.

It's easy enough if you've already advised Columbus that they may not be staying in the East for long.

I assume this site isn't affiliated with the Blue Jackets, but they're already aware of that possibility:

http://www.jacketscannon.com/2013/3...ent-approved-by-the-nhlpa-columbus-moves-east

There is a wrinkle though- the agreement by the NHLPA is contingent on reevaluating the deal after the 2014/2015 season. With the talk of expansion and relocation of the Coyotes, the Jackets' stay in the Eastern Conference may be short-lived. The cities that are given the most press in terms of expansion or relocation are Markham, Ontario and Quebec City, both in the East. If Phoenix moves to one of those cities, balance would be required and Columbus would be the prime candidate to move back to the West. If Seattle, another city rumored to be in the mix for an NHL team, gets the Coyotes or an expansion team, Columbus is safe in the East.

The idea that finding a strong market for an NHL franchise is easier than changing realignment is laughable.

I agree with most of this, but I think that the NHL's agreement with any of the new ownership suitors would be contingent on getting a lease with Glendale. If that falls through, then any sale agreement would be null and void and the NHL would switch to finalizing a deal with other owners for a relocation scenario. I highly doubt that the current reported suitors (Jamison, Pastor or Gosbee) end up with this franchise in another location.

Detroit would move back West before Columbus would.

Shift PHX to QBC in Northeast. Shift DET to Central. Shift COL to Pacific.

Geographycally speaking, this is right.

In the real life, I doubt it'd happen because of time zones.

Until the next realignment is made (say 2015), simply move COL-PAC and put QC with CHI and co.

Maybe something else is planned, who knows?

The sad thing is that there are no suitors for the Coyote ownership! Silence, in this case, is quite telling when you consider the financial hill any of them would have to climb to turn this situation into a profitable enterprise. The COG will not be offering anything worthwhile and the owners now have the numbers from this season in hand and it is not a pretty picture! Should they stay that picture turns from bad to worse as the losses continue to mount! These folks are merely pawns in this charade and have no intention of making a bona fide offer. One needs to only stand outside the arena just past the opening face off, the high school kids and college kids are all admitted free of charge to help the building appear to be fuller than it is! I would venture a guess that the gate revenues per game are below $350,000! Right here is the very reason this franchise will be moved, there simply is no financial visibility toward profits for as far as the eye can see--translated-Goodbye!!!

and frankly, who cares ... i sure don't. the coyotes threads have been taken over by all of this realignment nonsense.

whatever happens to the team in the next few weeks, i sincerely wish the fans in phoenix the best two nights of hockey at jobing tomorrow and friday night.

i hope the crowd gives the team a 10 minute long standing ovation when they hit the ice ... because they deserve it. and if there's a dry eye in the house, somebody hit him so he'll be crying too. these will be two very emotional games.

You giving odds on that Councillor? Ya'll reckon they'll just cut a deal with the Crown in order to expedite matters, move on to the next case, Justice done? Maybe.... sweetheart deal, walk with barely a slap on the wrist. Just a matter of time before the league winds up right back in front of the Bench again. Cant help themselves.

Crying because a sports franchise may relocate? The mind of the fanatic is a very puzzling place.

What? Why not?

If you're a fan of a team, then logically it's become a big part of your recreation time, how you identify yourself, what you invest your time and emotions into, and even your civic pride. I can guarantee that if the Hawks, Cubs, or Bears ever relocated out of Chicago, I'd openly weep when it was all said and done. A huge emotional attachment of mine would be just gone out of the blue.

Totally understand people getting sad or angry if their team gets relocated. Even for teams with troubled fanbases, doesn't mean that there aren't diehard fans.

If the Yotes move, there will be heartbroken fans, just as was the case when the Jets, Nordiques, North Stars, Whalers, and yes, even Thrashers all moved.

After TNSE got the Thrashers at the end of May of 2011, i believe an NHL official and Mark Chipman said afterwards it was really a tight schedule to get everything in place for the next season, and they were really well prepared. Bill Daly once said " there is no other Winnipeg" , meaning another city would need more time to get ready. Unless the NHL plans to own the team another year, i think they would give 'two more weeks' of preparation for a relocation. I would not be surprised to hear an announcement just before the playoffs or between the first and second rounds.

My opinion is if you cut the cord do it between the season and the playoff that way it a one day news story getting sweep under the rug by the early playoff excitement. You also don't get the embarrassment of somebody leaking the news during the playoff.

I wouldn't be surprised if things move very quickly. I think that if any of the potential owners (Gosbee, Pastor, Jamison) are legitimate in the eyes of the NHL, then we should soon see action on lease negotiations with the COG. It can't be drawn out as it has been in the past. It will likely be a crisp sort of "take it or leave it" offer from prospective owners, putting pressure on the COG to make a quick decision.

If the NHL finds that none of the new owners is legitimate, or if they discover that their interest is largely motivated by relocation options, then I think that the NHL will move quickly to relocation options.

Either way, I would be very surprised if we didn't hear something soon after the Coyotes' season is done.

What about the Quebec Remparts marketing team...im not sure if its Expo Cite that take care of it but the Remparts average about 12k fans every game....could this be considered as a "another winnipeg"? Im not sure how many fans the Moose averaged every game but its probably similar as the Remparts?

Your identity and pride are based on the geographic location of a sports entertainment product? MOD
