... so, whatre' ya thinkin? Like a Susan Powter "Stop the Insanity" type dealeo? Road Trip? Oprah?

Albert Einstein: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Expand. Lockout. Linkage to save expansion teams. Expand. Lockout. Linkage to save expansion teams.

I lost count. How many lockouts now and is expansion in the works?

(My main point against this is in the Tranna thread, re: exclusivity and access.)

you know, the NHL could retreat and put the yotes in a hockey market such as Quebec...eg ., Wpg Jets!!...solidify its base financially support fan wise and attack more pro hockey like markets with expansion as opposed to continually fighting a optically negative situation where no one wants to own a sports franchise which certainly doesn't help promote the sport nationwide to sport media carriers

There are no other Winnipegs.

Nah, I walked into the desert with a bottle of Glenfiddich Rich Oak to rid myself of my distractions... to rediscover myself, find my bearings and threshholds... came back hung over and (as CF stated and you quoted) even more empathy averse than ever. :naughty:

Giblin tweeted the other day that the Fire Chief asked for an additional $850K for the Dept. and was told no. Hmmmmm

Sorry for the long C&P's

Last one for now...

Further, the rating agencies and bond investors were informed the city would continue to build its GF reserve, the foundation for a solid and sound financial position. Any reduction of the estimated GF fund balance further reduces the GF reserve level from an estimated $8M at the end of FY 2014. Such a step contradicts the message we provided to the Glendale community, rating agencies and the investment community and jeopardizes the city’s ability to address unplanned, but necessary, expenses that may arise during the year.

They just have no latitude at all. I can't imagine how they could even contemplate any AMF beyond the $6.5 million. That ship sailed, and Jamison was left on the pier waving his hanky.

You may just be joking but there is no doubt in my mind that QC could do what Winnipeg has done with the season ticket drive and sell-outs in their old/new buildings.

In NHLFan4Life's defense, that was an exact quote from NHL officials: There is no other Winnipeg. What's changed since then, though, is that now Quebec City has a building, or at least will soon. No reason to think that won't put QC in Winnipeg's league in terms of fan response, potential revenue, etc.

In the truest context of a immediate NHL-ready arena and market, you are correct.

I assume that's the point he keeps trying to make, but it's totally irrelevant as long as PKP is willing to sustain presumably minor losses (if at all when his ancillary revenue streams are take into account) until the new arena is finished. Which I think we can all assume he would be.

Remember TVA Sports lost 20M$ last year. Having a team will surely help cover those!

I don't want to disrespect Winnipeg in anyway, but I think QC will be an even greater success. Plus, the upcoming building is bigger and is state of the art.

Every rally organized by the Nordiques Nation has been a huge success.

They have something like 8000 seats sold for "J'ai ma place" so half the old Colisée is already sold as you need to buy season ticket to keep your rights.

All 100 corporate boxes are already sold as well. And to top it off, you have PKP and his amazing network of news, entertainment, magazines etc.

It's true, there is no other Winnipeg, there is QC, and it's even better!!! :yo:

Let's not forget the tremendous success of the Jets and support of the Winnipeg people to their team. SENSATIONAL. Many many teams can only dream of this.

Not a matter of "better then", more a different reality.

There is no other Winnipeg. There is no other Quebec city.

BUT, a common true DEDICATION to the sport.

sorry, im confused ... to whom is glendale paying this interest?

To the enterprise funds, which have their own debt and cost of capital (which is apparently headed for an increase once again).

Oh, and they need to figure out a way to hire 39 public safety professionals to maintain crappy response times.

Well done, Glendale.

So TRUE!

For the last 'NHL' council (yes, I talking to you Manny and Yvonne), they were borrowing Peter to pay Paul, which has to stop.

That is why at the last budget meeting (video link) the 'acting' City Manager said that they shouldn't be 'kicking the can' down the road again and borrowing more!

And 'Sammy' Chavira, who got elected with the backing of the firefighter/police (unions) is wanting to keep his 'buddies' as happy as he can (BTW, he works for the Phoenix fire department).

He is not impressing... :shakehead

Hoo's there! ;)

Another Sunnucks article, Coyotes may have played final game in Glendale

To quote:

"Coyotes COO Mike Nealy voiced confidence the franchise would be back in Glendale next season.

“This is a hockey town. You guys make it a hockey town,” said an emotional Nealy during the first period of the game. “The NHL belongs here. See you next year.”

Still, the Coyotes were selling all merchandise at arena shops for 40 percent off and have let their in-store stock of jerseys run out. Arena ushers, staff and fans were all wondering whether it is the last game for this year’s NHL season or the end of the franchise’s tenure in Arizona."

Hoo's there! ;)

P.S. Commentary on article posted date and time (Apr 27, 2013, 1:23am MST), no wonder there is no support. Hoo stays up, reads articles at 1:00 a.m., and posts comments. Oh, nevermind....

If you were paying attention long enough you'd know they've had a merchandise sale in the team shop during the final home game every year since they landed in Phoenix.

But then again I could be mistaken that this is yet another commentary being taken out of context to make it look like the end is near??

Nayhhh..... couldn't be.

NEXT.........

That means nothing! When will you realize that the economic metrics, that includes no COG subsidy do not make for a reasonable deal! Why would you buy a car for $17,000 that has NO classic value that is worth maybe $9,000 and will cost you at a minimum $3, 000 per year in maintenance and can only be sold for what you paid for it and likely less?

But it was your own assertion just a couple days ago that nobody was going to show up at any of the remaining home games..

With the latest revelations, does Glendale look like a place that could give an AMF period, let alone a generous, "it doesn't violate the gift clause (snicker)" AMF? It sounds like Glendale is falling apart so rapidly (Russian roulette public safety, projections for rest of decade), the NHL might want to quietly slink away from the disaster they helped create with the help of the former City Council.

I guess the key would be looking at relevant parties in Quebec City or Seattle (or Hamilton?) to see if their behavior changes.

By the way, this seems to put to rest the speculation that the NHL hadn't made off with the money from the second year. It seems that they took $20 million, and the COG has negotiated with them to leave the additional $5 million since they couldn't afford that. It's not clear to me whether the NHL can or will come back to the COG at a later date to take the remaining $5 million.

Except they haven't collected any of that $20 million, Whileee. That is unless something's happened within the past week.
