No kidding Capt. Obvious...... :help:

But wasn't it our mutual friend Mesa, who was ranting here the other day that nobody was going to be showing up?

I never understood why Mesa would make that assertion.

What's the point of chasing around after the Coyotes if you can't attend a game in the luxury box, and then go for a round of golf the next day? It is one of LeBlanc's favorite past-times. :naughty:

Scottsdale, AZ.
BREAKING!!! :D

Hoo's there you say???????

Per Craig Morgan of Fox Sports AZ..... Two of the potential ownership groups are in the arena for tonight's game against the Avs.

That means nothing! When will you realize that the economic metrics, that includes no COG subsidy do not make for a reasonable deal! Why would you buy a car for $17,000 that has NO classic value that is worth maybe $9,000 and will cost you at a minimum $3, 000 per year in maintenance and can only be sold for what you paid for it and likely less?

and if that was the last game in Glendale and the team moves to Quebec... how fitting the old Nordiques send them on their way....

Watched the game tonight, and felt a real empathy for the fans.

It hit me, for the first time, that I think it's over.

just watched the avs/'yotes.....

on the avs tv feed, the commentators made a comment about the phoenix situation....it seemed they were supporting that phoenix should not relocate.....and gave their reasons why...

the commentators mentioned the growth of hockey at the amateur level in arizona.......its been growing for years....

they mentioned that phoenix has an extensive hockey history, dating as far back to the WHA days....

peter mcnab gave his 0.02 cents that the NHL wants to stay in phoenix....the reasons are higher population growth and large TV market...

Too bad they didn't offer a cure for the crippling financial losses that the franchise is, and has been, enduring.

That would be helpful.

Apropos...

"The blanket of white that decorated the Coyotes’ final home game the previous three years was replaced this season by an army of red towels labeled, “Thank You Fans.â€

And it seemed fitting the Coyotes held their last hurrah of the season at Jobing.com Arena in the red considering the deficits that have taunted the franchise finally trapped it.

No owner.

No bonafide skill.

No playoffs."

So as someone that has been following, albeit at quite a distance, since the Jim Balsillie caper does it look like this is about to wrap-up? I watched the Coyotes game and I was surprised at how candid the commentators were being especially considering that I was always under the impression this was a taboo subject for the Coyotes + NHL.

To quote (you ): There are some people who have trouble recognizing a mess. - Bill Cosby

Nobody wanted to talk because it might scare away any 'potential owner.'

Now, I think the subject is no longer taboo.

Another Sunnucks article, Coyotes may have played final game in Glendale

To quote:

"Coyotes COO Mike Nealy voiced confidence the franchise would be back in Glendale next season.

“This is a hockey town. You guys make it a hockey town,†said an emotional Nealy during the first period of the game. “The NHL belongs here. See you next year.â€

Still, the Coyotes were selling all merchandise at arena shops for 40 percent off and have let their in-store stock of jerseys run out. Arena ushers, staff and fans were all wondering whether it is the last game for this year’s NHL season or the end of the franchise’s tenure in Arizona."

I dont ever remember reading or hearing anyone from the NHL "insisting the Coyotes wont play another season in Glendale". Just Leipolds statement of a couple of weeks back. No idea where he got that from.

Pure speculation here, but if they go at it with a 5year Lease Agreement, out clause, seriously roll up their sleeves & get to work, this thing can be resurrected, turned around & saved within 36-48mnths. Convincing the corporate sector (and the public of course but that shouldnt be all that difficult really, people will respond positively Im sure provided their given the straight dope on things, treated respectfully) to support them is going to be tough, but if their sincere, not insurmountable. And if they fail, well, at least they tried, off to Greener Pastures.

Its past the point of speculation and into fantasy land. After 3 trips to the playoffs including a run to the western conference finals they were only able to muster a jump in attendance to 29th, ahead of only the Islanders, who are an official lame duck franchise. So without a massive AMF the new owner will have to absorb losses while begging corporations "please buy a luxury box and some club seats because otherwise we will really have to leave. seriously its true"

Just Leipolds statement

This is Sunnucks. That more than qualifies.

Sounds like a statement of defiance in recognition of what's about to happen, to me.

Perhaps huh? Obviously the guy has a considerable investment of time & effort; emotionally.
Guiding the franchise through rough waters. Defiance stemming from pride, perfectly understandable.

It sounded more like hopeful optimism on Mike's part than an annoucement of "I know something you don't" to me. And the 40% off sale when I heard that I thought -well at least they aren't being too obvious about it. It could have been much worse guys. It could have been a 50% off or 90% off sale and really sent a signal...

Ya I made note of that, and of course like most made a quick assumption, as in "whoa there, no more jerseys? Well now, looks like their goners after all". But consider instead, team name change, part n' parcel of a local sale. No ones going to want a Phoenix Coyotes jersey, cap or whatever, no Sir, they'll be wanting an Arizona Coyotes jersey. Complete makeover. Easy to read pessimism or optimism into that situation. Either the teams sold now locally & if so, new uni's. If not, gone, so why bother ordering minimums which due to the mfg process of hockey jerseys is fairly hefty?

Unless there was a sign up at the rink that said " EVERYTHING MUST GO ", don't read too much into it.

All teams have sales at the last regular season game. The Jets had 50% off some stuff and 25% off most everything else. Doesn't mean they are in trouble...

Yeah that possibility did occur to me as well, and it would certainly be the possibility I'd prefer. I was actually holding off buying a new jersey this season (I already have ten, half old style half new style) figuring they'd come out with new ones next season after Greg got the deal done - and when that fell through - well I'll wait now.

And if they leave, I doubt I'll be buying any even at 90% off clearance sale.

As I was walking out last night and even now, I feel a bit drained by the uncertainty. No emotion yet; although I expect when it becomes certain where the team will be playing next season, emotions will find me and I'll either be glad or sad. I've paid my 15% down on next season, and the first of 7 remaining payments on next season for me is mid June. Don't see what else I can realistically do to affect the league's decisions. I re-upped, and if they are here, under league ownership or someone else's, I'll be here.
