Coyotes exploring Sloan Park in Mesa for new arena

To quote:

"Arizona Coyotes representatives met with Mesa's highest-ranking official at least twice in the past month to discuss Sloan Park as a possible site for a new arena, according to city emails and a team spokesman.

"Yes, we have had discussions with the city of Mesa. We are exploring multiple options for a new arena in the Valley and Sloane (sic) Park has been raised as one," Coyotes CEO and President Anthony LeBlanc said in a written statement."

Is Sloane Park the greatest location in North America for the Coyotes? Is this where all the money is that Tony speaks of? Is this where all the ice hockey fans are in Arizona?

No big surprise that they were in touch with Mesa. We had been aware of that before.

Of course, it is interesting that even the people involved from Mesa say that the business needs the bill to pass. If all here are reading the tea leaves correctly, that will kill off Mesa as a possibility.

Worsley, "Trying to save a business that wants to be in AZ..." Typical politician-speak.

I guess we are soon going to be down to Phoenix.....

Which really means that the possibilities will be:

Relocate out of market or....
Make a deal back at GRA in Glendale....

I know this will make Bettman turn even whiter than he is, but if I'm the mayor of Mesa, I say to LeBlanc: "Sure, if you can acquire the land in Sloan Park, we will issue you the permits to build your arena."

Are you suggesting that IA may not have the funds to both acquire land at market price and "chip" in for the building of a new arena. All while eating losses while playing at GRA during construction.;)

I'm just saying that when Worsley said the Coyotes testified at the committee hearing, presumably under oath, that "this is the best market for their team in all of North America," that they should be able to borrow all they need for the land and the building - just by telling potential borrowers that they will make Toronto-like and Montreal-like revenues if they can just get that team playing somewhere on the east side of town! Of course banks will open the loan spigots for that, wouldn't you?

I do not know which is more probable...a roomful of comedy writers or science fiction writers coming up with these scenarios written just hours apart...

So the media train keeps on rolling on this.

Worsley campaigns though the media verifies he doesn't have the support but not giving up yet.

I don't understand the strategy of letting Mesa leak. It states serious discussions are contingent of having the bill pass.

Knowing there is a potential municipal partner and in a place Worsley represents, wouldn't that hinder the chances further?

Perhaps the $300 million+ valuation is grossly on the low side. The Coyotes are clearly a $500 million dollar franchise in that market.

I am sure Fortress will have no problems lending IA the money as long as they are guaranteed tax revenues directly without IA getting to touch the $$$$.

The most important phrase and only truth in their whole dialogue. Arizona is the only market that would put up with the clowns. When the team leaves Arizona, it will have new ownership. It is no small wonder why they are fighting so hard to hold onto their dream.

Coincidence that the Coyotes release this today?

Coyotes to Present Fan Appreciation Night on April 8

To quote:

"Fan Appreciation Night is a long-standing Coyotes tradition which recognizes fans for their loyalty and support throughout the season. All fans in attendance will receive a Coyotes themed poster with removable decals courtesy of Gila River Casinos as part of "Everyone Wins" night. Additionally, all fans at the game will be treated to numerous giveaways and have the chance to win a variety of prizes throughout the evening, provided by Coyotes partners including BMW, Papa John's Pizza, Fry's Food Stores and Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers. The Coyotes expect to add more giveaways as Fan Appreciation Night approaches."

Touch the dollars? Heck, IA needs a counterfeit press to be able to print the dollars!
I'm thinkin' that's the real reason there's all this rush to leave the west side - Bettman's been cranking out the Dead Presidents notes for Tony on his old converted newsprint press in the bowels of the arena ever since Glendale cut off the subsidies. But Treasury Department G men closing in on them there - got 24-hour stakeouts in the parking lot at GRA, in the beer vendors station in the concourse; place is crawling with them. Tony needs to get away for a while, catch his breath . . . East Valley, yeah, lots of fresh, gullible stool pigeons over there, no revenuers. "Best place for hockey in North America, yeah, that's what I'll sell them . . ."

You guys..... Having fun.....

Be careful. Your assumption that the bill won't pass is still 3 weeks from coming to pass. Please keep in mind the strange history of this franchise. I think a little more patience and discretion may be advised....

This isn't your Glendale 7-member City Council...we are talking about 60 Senators and House Representatives...

But...you are right...they could be just as stupid, too...

Yeah, sage advice from MNN. You cant fix stupid but you can vote it out... unfortunately, its usually too late & the damage done. In this case, and given the history of the franchise & the unbelievable, really incredible turn of events in Arizona over the years, I wouldnt count anything out.

I don't think I would be surprised at anything that happens in this saga.

LeBlanc could reveal himself as leader of the Lizard people, and that they love the Phoenix Coyotes, and will be funding them going forward, and my reaction would be: "Huh, I guess that makes sense."

Might be on to something there.... supposedly.... major underground bases in the Superstition Mountains, peppered throughout the state... been there for 1000's of years... Reptilians... Crypto Terrestrials from God only knows where.... recent sighting in fact just outside of Tucson on the Old Pueblo Trail that winds its way through the Sonoran desert, used by off-road mountain bikers, like a 24hr extreme trek type dealeo... 3 guys riding along and sure enough, much to their total shock, amazement & then absolute terror, all stone cold sober, middle of the afternoon about 9 hours into it and just up ahead on the trail....

I agree that this thing is not over until it's over either way.

What is the significance of 3 weeks from now? Adjournment is in mid to late April with most sites I'm seeing says April 22 so 7 weeks....or 3 1/2 fortnights..:D

I think Llama or MNN found that March 24 was the last day that a bill passed in one House could be passed by a committee in the other House. After that, it couldn't be voted on by the committee, so would be dead unless amended to some other bill, which is very unlikely.
