Mets can probably offer more money.
Don’t think there’s even a need to say probably.

They can and if Soto and Boras stick to that being the most inportant thing he’ll be a Met.

Phils may be able to get semi close if they really want to and they’re gonna have to hope that Soto cares about those connections.

He’s going to the highest bidder. The rest doesn’t matter.

I was just checking out Team USA’s roster for the upcoming tournament and saw him on the roster. Guess he’s not going to pitch anymore.

I wonder how JT would do at one of the corner outfield spots
Not a good enough hitter at this stage. Plus it takes away his greatest asset. And they would also need to add two catchers rather than just one.

Gamesmanship.

If the Mets go after Soto, Middleton wants to raise the price as much as possible.
Soto won't necessarily put the Mets over the top. But he'll squeeze their budget.

In the end, it always comes down to pitching.
If Painter is the real thing, we're fine (he has Wheeler/Schilling potential).

The reason the Dodgers are WS champions is not just spending money, they also have a first rate farm system. It's what has kept the Braves competitive and put the Astros over the top.

Remember, Angels had Trout and Ohtani. But couldn't build a solid team around them before Trout broke down.

i swore he was already traded
They retained his rights after his contract expired.
This is a favor to him, Angels are a really thin team so he'll get a shot in ST.
No room at the inn here, Kemp and Kennedy have passed him as veteran bench guys.

What reason is there for remaining anonymous? Some type of shady accounting?

The most plausible charitable reason is not wanting people to know you've got the kind of money it takes to buy into a professional sports team, and if you're truly a private enough individual, you can get away with that level of flying under the radar on a broad scale.

There are, of course, less charitable reasons, like being someone who, if your name was attached to the team, would cause a meaningful enough portion of the customer base to seek alternatives.

Do you have a name in mind? Josh Harris getting his fingers in the Phillies pie? Lol

I don't have a name in particular in mind, (very specifically, I don't think it's any of these guys) but someone like a Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones would be absolutely toxic in Philly, or a particularly unsavory business type like a member of the Sackler family would bring out a lot of rage and counter-protesting.

Pitching is important, but this team can't hit when it matters.
