Yennier Cano? DL Hall is supposed to be good, too
DL Hall is one of the starters who came through the minors with Rushman. I’d think they stretch him out to start. They are really high on him.

Wells is a candidate. He was one of the best starters first half but threw his arm out. He has closer stuff. Means will be back too to slot in rotation

So I expect Ohtani and Yamamoto announcement together soon from the Phillies. Already had great news the other day that Kimbrel wasnt coming back.

Id like him to stay in Anaheim or go to the Jays. I do not like the Dodgers but it is very difficult to dislike a team that has Mookie on it. So him going there wouldnt make me dislike him. Stay in the AL though!

f*** I would be blown the f*** away and laugh at the same time going "f***ing what!?"
There is no way they could sign Ohtani unless they either get rid of Schwarber or want him to play left field (please no). Him going to the Jays does mean Vlad Jr in the field, which isnt ideal.

He's already signed through the rest of his career as an elite player. Does he plan on playing at a high level until he's 40? 45? 50? I don't like this. Seems like he and his agent are just trying to milk the Phillies for a bunch of guaranteed post-prime money using his current popularity as leverage.
Typical Scott Boras move. He'll try to get Bryce money that he then can use as leverage on other contracts. Then he will use those as leverage to redo Bryce again since the original and any redone deal will be so long.

He's also injured so will be only a DH for 2024.
I saw where another plan for him once healthy is instead of him being a starter, you could put him into a closers roll. It would allow him to impact more games as a pitcher but also not have as much wear and tear on the arm.

Ryan Dempster was talking about this and said that as a starter, his next day his arm was always sore and didn't want to do anythung. But as a reliever, he said he was never sore the next day. So for SO, playing in the field or DH for 8 innings, then as a pitcher in the 9th, might be the best use of him long term to keep him healthy as both a hitter and pitcher.

I saw former Mets GM Steve Phillips on Dan Patrick this morning. He was talking about the huge salary and how people always say "Well, the added marketing will make up for it," which is usually horse shit. But in the case of the Jays, the owners (Rogers Group) are a media company, and they actually can make a fortune from Shohei with broadcasting rights and other shit. So it's not far-fetched at all. The thing is, they have to agree to always wear their 80s outfits, because those things are f***ing beautiful.

I can't even fathom the amount of endorsement money Ohtani could make with all of Canada behind him.

I'm not sure people understand Ohtani's true popularity. LAA were running Japanese ads behind the plate. Visiting ballparks started running Japanese ads behind the plate too. Japan was broadcasting every single Angels game exclusively via Ohtani cam, even when he had days off. Just broadcasting him sitting on the bench. And people watched.

This guy could sign a $1 billion contract and it would pay for itself within half a decade. I'm really not kidding. Literal economic studies show Ohtani made 330 mil in revenue for the Angels and Japan in 2022 alone.

He even 13x'd the male consumerism of a Japanese cosmetic company after signing an endorsement deal. This guy is Tiger x Jordan x1000

Probably less than if he signed with a team like Mikwaukee, honestly.

He's going to make tons of money for whichever team he signs with, but players get better endorsement deals playing in the US. Ask any Raptor or Blue Jay who also played in the States where their best endorsement money came from and I'd be surprised if any said from playing in Canada.

Edit: there are more people and there is more money in California, where he currently plays, than in Canada.

I dunno, man. Ohtani is a different beast.

Ohtani is going to make bank wherever he goes.

Referencing my edit above, there are more people and there is more money just in California than there is in Canada.

It would be huge for the Blue Jays, but if money beyond the $500M salary (or whatever he gets) is his concern, he's better off staying in the US.

Jeff O'Neil saying he knows guys at the airport, and there is something being prepped there. Also said security has been notified of something going on.

And 20 mins ago, SN added an impromptu baseball show to start at 5pm EST

Lots of signs pointing to him being a Jay

Reddit thread I was just reading is tracking a plane that he is supposedly on that is headed towards Toronto..and someone affiliated with Ohtani's camp supposedly booked out an entire sushi restaurant in Toronto. I don't know how people dig up this information but it's amusing.

I hope this goes down. Could be awesome for Baseball in Canada and keeps him away from a Phillies rival. Maybe Montreal will get jealous and bring back the Expos finally! How about a team in Vancouver too?

It’s a shame the internet wasn’t around when JFK was killed. Or maybe it’s a good thing. It definitely would have been an interesting time for internet sleuths and social media
