I feel like some of the more "hip" public ERA estimators miss on players like Rodriguez. But he's riding hype from an above average FIP/SIERA from two seasons ago and two seasons before that. He comps pretty well with someone like Taijuan Walker, who got a similar deal.

EDIT: Actually, scratch that. By quality of contact allowed, Rodriguez was pretty good in 2021 as well. So it's not just a matter of high K rates inflating his ERA estimators. Doesn't help that Boston was in the bottom 3rd of the league in fielding, I guess.

From the games I caught (no pun intended) last year, it is nearly impossible to overstate how bad their defense was. Total nightmare.

For a team that went out and signed Kimbrel for 10 mil last season, it's beyond me why they're not going after a guy like Jordan Hicks or previously signed Reynaldo Lopez. If they don't address this bullpen with a real piece, they're going to have another bad time

Baltimore watched Kimbrel down the stretch and in the Playoffs and gave him MORE MONEY than he made last year.
They are, admittedly, also wildly desperate. They need to a) stay competitive in that division and b) come out better than a whimpering elimination after a lion's roar of a regular season for the first time in 100 years. Remember, Felix Bautista had TJ

If they're in the mix for either Yamamoto or Imanaga, I can understand why they're not jumping to sign a reliever. On paper, they already probably have one of the best bullpens in MLB. They seem high on Kerkering. Guessing he'll assume Kimbrel's workload.

I think 100 years may be a bit of an exaggeration. That 1970 team was pretty damn good. Also seem to remember them beating the Phillies in the WS, as much as I’ve tried to forget that.

I don't think they are actually, though, at least in the bullpen. I know they had that gigantic f***er, can't remember his name, to close. The guys calling the game bigged up the rest of their pen as guys with big arms, too.

Either way, Kimbrel sucks anus.

Was Kimbrel inconsistent all year or just run out of gas? The Orioles have a darn good track record of putting a bullpen together with cast always. Gotta trust their decisions but as you said, they are desperate with Bautista out.

Kerkering just needs to use his fast ball way more. No idea why JT set him up for failure by calling for so many sliders. Batters started sitting on it pretty quickly. His fastball is electric. Pump that baby in there.

He was an All-Star the first half. Ran out of gas by August.

It was hyperbole of course. In sports is anything over a decade NOT 100 years?

The 70s might as well have been 100 years ago. It's me and you fighting the good fight. Again
