Has anyone taken a look at whether underperforming/overperforming xwOBA predicts regression?

He's going to absolutely destroy the highest MLB contract to a Japanese league player ever which. Tanaka got 7/$155m (plus a $20m max posting fee).

If Yamamoto gets $300m that's going to be like almost $40m in posting fees since the way it works now is 25% of the first $25m. 17.5% of the next $25m and then everything else over $50m is at 15% tax.

So for a $300m contract that works out to like $39.4m posting fee.

Obviously massive risks. This would be like the highest guaranteed money to a pitcher EVER (if its near $300m with the posting fee included) Gerrit Cole is at $324m. Strasburg is 2nd at $245m.

Giving the highest guaranteed contract to a pitcher (or even 2nd or 3rd highest) in MLB history to a guy who's not thrown one pitch in the MLB... wow

You also have other issues. He's coming from Japan where they use a tackier ball for control. The ball is also slightly smaller than the MLB ball. He pitches once every 7 days there.

Looks like Fedde is close to signing after a dominant stint in Korea. Wouldn't be surprised if the Phillies are in on that. Just a weird gut feeling

I want Fedde. The Phillies don't appear to have room for him, though. Only linked to the White Sox and Mets at the moment

If he goes to the Dodgers that means I'll have to hate him, and I don't want to hate him. It'd be a disaster for baseball
Out of the teams mentioned the one that I'd want him to go to is the Blue Jays. I don't care about the AL, I don't have a 'secondary team' I root for in the AL. In terms of 'baseball' visibility, I'm not sure him going to Toronto is the best, but outside of being on the Yankees. I don't really think there's some huge visibility bump if he's on the "Mets" or "Cubs" anyway.

Gonna cry?

Eh I get both sides of it. I completely understand why Ohtani wants it private but I also understand why people who cover him don't want that.

On the topic of Ohtani, I would be so afraid of giving Ohtani a ton of money. He's great, don't get me wrong, but all the innings pitched and played are a recipe for a steep and early decline at some point (not to mention potential injuries). Ohtani definitely the better and more valuable player, but I don't even think I'd pursue him if I'm GM. He's going to get a ridiculous contract and 100% deserves it, but he's turning 30 nect year. Just makes me nervous. That being said I'm pulling for the Mets because everything that they do blows up in their faces. Nothing against Ohtani just love to see Mets fans suffer. Haha

Rather have him to go go the Dodgers than the Mets or Braves.
If I had to pick the 3 teams I least want Ohtani going to it would #1)Braves, #2)Mets, #3)Dodgers. Technically Dodgers should be #2 because he makes them better and they're already a playoff team and competition... but I don't want the Mets fans to get to have Ohtani to watch and I don't want someone I'd like to see continue to play well be on the Mets where I wouldn't want to see anyone do well lol.
