I was just going to say this. Blows my mind why anyone who just watched Castellanos, Turner and Bohm last season/postseason/closeout games wouldn't want a hitter like Soto
i also dont want Diggs from the Bills with the Eagles. Cause he seems also like a selfcentered asshole!
Its just a feeling and what i have seen with Soto in his games vs Philly. Like i said i easily can be wrong. And i will accept it!

You have to pencil in Soto in LF and Castellanos in RF. That's the issue.

All this pining for better ABs in the playoffs and we saw firsthand how the best offense in almost 100 years was dog water when it mattered. I think it's more reasonable to bet on pitching if we're going to fixate on matchups. We should first focus on building the best regular season team, though. Can't keep expecting long runs in the playoffs without a bye.
I dont get the approach that the Phillies dont want to sign a closer. At least that is what is mentioned in the last weeks. Did they really think Hoffman, Kerkering, Soto and Seranthony get this job done?

Bullpens are a year to year thing. And i dont think Hoffman will have another very good year like this. Kerkering is talented but a rookie, Seranthony is up and down forever. Soto is bad most of the time.

In my eyes we need more Bullpen help and especcially a closer.

And no. I dont want Hader!

I wonder how much trade value Cristopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez have. Could either be a main piece in a Soto trade? How much more would need to be added to Sanchez/Suarez + Painter, for example?

Also, if the Phillies decide to sell off some starting pitchers, Erick Fedde looks really interesting. I'm expecting some major declines in K% and GB% from his KBO results, but he looks like a quality backend starter who's available for much less than the going rate.

Harper is still a self-centered asshole. People don't change.

If you don't enjoy watching Soto, that's perfectly fine and entirely up to you. But to steal a talking point from Petriello, this is a guy who was getting Ted Williams comps at one point. And they didn't fall apart. With that being said, I don't think they have the pieces to get him.

It will take a massive overpay for the Padres to trade Soto to the Phillies. It's not going to happen. Our best chance at Soto is if he makes it to free agency.

As a refresher, these are the players exchanged in the 2022 Soto trade:

I'm not sure what portion pays for Bell. He was hitting well at the time, I think.

How much less than that are we talking?

When is the last time a player of his caliber was traded with only a year left on his deal? Machado was traded at the deadline. Trea was traded with Scherzer. I think Lindor and Mookie only had a year left, so that may be a baseline.

One big young piece + one secondary piece + one ancillary prospect with upside. Whether those are prospects or MLB-ready guys depends on the team.

The farm system did not have a good year as far as developing trade value.

Honestly I'd be fine giving up one of the big arms for him. Pitching prospects are hard to project and as good as Painter looked and Abel looks, it doesn't mean anything until they do it at the big league level. Countless high end picks look good in the minors and either bust or turn out to be good not great.

If you have a shot to get an extremely young and proven bat for a pitcher prospect coming off TJ surgery, you do that every single day of the week. Not a knock on Painter, but it is infinitely more likely that he isn't an Ace (let alone a Cy Young caliber Ace) than he is.

I would not trade one of the arms plus Crawford or both arms. Other than give em what they want and figure the rest out later. Trade Castellanos for whatever you can get (or keep him, we're going over luxury tax anyway). Roll with Soto in LF, Marsh/Pache/Rojas in CF, Castellanos/Marsh in RF depending on Castellanos' fate. Leave Schwarber at DH and rest of lineup don't change.

Bryce Harper was once thought to be a self centered asshole. These guys are great and they know it.

Soto is only signed through the end of next season so he will be significantly cheaper than what he was acquired for.
fair enough ;D Sometimes i love when guys have confident and show a little extra. And sometimes i dont. Maybe its just me being biased ;D For example i hated Matthias Sammer (Champions League Winner, Euro Winner) my whole life. I never have given him credit for his career. But a lot of times my feeling in this things isnt sooo out of touch.

Lets see what will happen ;D

Who cares if he is a self-centered asshole? I have a secret for you guys, almost every professional athlete is. And guess what if the team is winning, his self-centered asshole-yness won't matter. If they are losing yeah we'll all complain it his hustle or whatever. JRoll used to dog it at times. Big deal. If you can acquire one of the best bets in the league who is what 25 years old you do it every day of the week. This seems like such an obvious thing.

I see it 100% the other way round! But thats to be expected!

There are only a few athletes in a "TEAM SPORT" who are able to help a team while being a self-centered asshole!

See Harper, see Pronger, see Chara, see Messi, see Ronaldo

Players who cannot do that: TDA, Ben Simmonds, Provorov and all the others...

top-5 prospect in baseball, played AA all last year with a couple games in AAA.

This seems risky; love to see it. I'm a fan of young players getting paid

Feels like the Phillies could easily match this:

That's the cost for a 1 year rental, apparently
