No idea how he'll age but if you want to win now, it had to be made. Top of the rotation pitchers are tough to acquire or replace. He doesn't, and never did, have the traditional high velo, high spin, 4 seam fastball like Verlander that you would feel great about aging, but he's been pretty much the best command pitcher in the league and if that holds, he should age just fine.

That Harper, Turner, Nola, and Wheeler contract/extension bubble will be nasty though. Can only kick that can so far down the road.

only thing on my list i really want for them is a table setter at the top..a guy that hits for average and walks..speed but doesn't need to have pop

You're out on Yamamoto because he's a righty? That's kinda hilarious
I’m not against it if they do it, I feel it’s too unlikely though. If I only get to target one more pitcher, I’d prefer it be a LHP. I’m assuming they’d have to move Walker if they add another starter.

Once is all you need against that bum.

But seriously, they fell hard for a career contract year. It's a shame. His underlying data has always stunk
I think they thought they could pull something out of him by making him a primary splitter guy. I don't think that flies as a starter though. Senga got the same contract. He would have had to choose to sign here, but that hurts.

Walker's contract isn't great, but this is a league that will pay Kyle Gibson $10-12MM/yr until he retires. I'd see if he can get closer to his 2022 numbers before moving him. The Phillies can add another SP and run a 6 man rotation. Feel like that'd make sense as they don't really run platoons and pitching injuries are inevitable.

6 man rotations aren't really viable over long stretches, plus Wheeler doesn't like it so that would be enough to nix it. If it's true that they want another arm, the writing is on the wall. Plus you have to consider Painter at some point, but that seems remote.

Painter gets considered when he gets in position to be, he’s nothing but a bonus for next year.

18 mil for a project is tough to swallow. But if they're truly in for another arm, I doubt they shove him in the pen. He already bitched about it. I think his time here hinges on FA

This is from an article from MLBTR last week:

Dombrowski was rather clear last week in asserting that the Phillies are only looking to add one starter. He stated in that MLBN appearance that if the Phils are able to re-sign Nola, their rotation will be “set.” The veteran baseball ops leader pointed to Zack Wheeler, Ranger Suarez and Taijuan Walker as locks for the rotation, adding that his club very much likes lefty Cristopher Sanchez

Rip the dream

Wheeler
Nola
Yamamoto
Suarez
Walker

If Walker could be traded so that Sanchez could be full time, I'd f***ing do it. Maybe use him as part of a deal to get Trout from the Angels.

If it was Soto I'd be cool. We all love Painter but nothing is a guarantee

Trade Painter, Walker and McGowan for Trout.

Wheller
Nola
Yamamoto
Suarez
Sanchez

Schwarber - DH
Turner - SS
Harper - 1B
Trout - LF
Bohm - 3B
Castellanos - RF
Stott - 2B
Realmuto - C
Rojas/Marsh - CF

Maybe?
