The curse is over. For the first time since 1985 the Hanshin Tigers have won the Japan Series.

After winning in 1985 fans celebrated by saying the name of a player and jumping into the river...but when they got to American Randy Bass a white guy with a mustache they instead thru a nearby KFC Colonel statue into the river.

That started a stream of 18 straight losing seasons. Eventually the statue was removed and restored like 15+ years ago.

The wives tale has always been he approached MLB pitching with a much more contact oriented mindset, sacrificing a bunch of power. I'm not sure how much that's actually true since he never wasn a big double/homer guy in Japan, but it's still fun to see him unleash

I’ve always liked those early 2000’s Mariners teams with Ichiro, Edgar Martinez, Bret Boone. Shame they never won it all. Kinda crazy how that 01 team won 116 games; nice team but not a team I’d think as most wins ever in a season
