lol @ the Marlins/Mets crap that's gone on this series.

First you got the Mets not putting the tarp on the infield before it rained for a few days because of the tropical storm. They did 'eventually' put a tarp over, but it was already heavily inundated by that point which caused the field to be unplayable the first game of the series (Tuesday) so Wednesday they played a double-header... then last night they're playing and Mets are winning 1-0 after scoring in the bottom of the 8th. It was raining prettily steadily, then the 9th starts and the Marlins come back and take a 2-1 lead.

Umpires suspend game in the 9th inning. Under the old rules it would be a Mets win, but ever since Selig rewrote the rules during the 2008 World Series the league does whatever they want. So now it will be resumed on Monday (if needed)

So if a Marlins win/loss has any impact on the 5th or 6th WC they will fly to NY, finish the top of the 9th (they have a 2-1 lead with 2 outs) and then the bottom of the 9th(barring extra-innings)

Also the Mets groundscrew then posed for a photo in front of the Marlins dug-out in the rain.

Oh and the actual rain delay *AFTER* the game was delayed was over 3 hours so the players waited around from a little before 9PM (when it was suspended) until 12:17AM when it was called/suspended for the night

Phillies/Mets rained out today. DH tomorrow although rain expected thru the morning so who knows about the field.

The games don't matter to the playoff standings, but with World Series home-field based on wins I think the Phils would need to play 162.

What's the WS home field based on now?

The regular season W/L record.

Phillies are 89-70

Rangers 89-70 (division leader)
Blue Jays 88-71
Astros 87-72
Mariners 86-73
Twins 85-74 (division winner)

Division winner vs WC doesn't matter for World Series since it just goes strictly w/l. I'm not sure the exact tie-breaking procedures for it... but Phils certainly in the mix to have a better record than maybe everyone except the Orioles and Rays from the AL.

H Town

He leads the AL in walks too. Granted Judege, Ohtani, and Trout have missed a bunch of time but impressive.

The DBacks are trailing 2-0 bottom of the 9th. Can only clinch with a win tonight. I guess if they lose Kelly will pitch tomorrow against Verlander. Means Gallen and Kelly arent pitching til games 2 or 3 unless they go on 3 days rest.

Texas could still wind up not even making the playoffs... It would take a lot.

3-way tie for the AL West with all teams finishing 89-73 (Seattle sweeps Texas winning the next two), Houston would need to win 2 out of 3 against Arizona.

Then Toronto needs to win at least 1 more game to finish at 90 wins. Seattle wins the 3-way tie-breaker and gets the AL West. Houston holds the tie-breaker over Texas. Texas then doesn't make the playoffs.

The Cubs were 76-64 after winning on September 6th.
They were 1.5 games out of 1st place in the division.
They were sitting in the 2nd WC (1.5 games behind the Phillies) and 3.5 games ahead of Miami
Their playoff chances were over 92%.

Since then they've gone 6-14.

They lose every single tie-breaker. They finished with a losing record against Arizona, Cincy, and Miami.

In a 4-way tie they're eliminated. In a 3-way tie they're eliminated. In a H2H with any of them they're eliminated.

The only chance they have to make the playoffs is to win their next 2 games and Miami lose 3 games. The third game being the suspended NYM/Miami game that Miami has a 1-run lead with 2-outs in the top of the 9th.

Also Cincy would have to win no more than 1 of their last 2 games against St. Louis.

Cubs were always pretenders to me. That lineup stinks.

Looks like Marlins could potentially finish ahead of Arizona. The DBacks having to play a desperate Astros team in their final series is rough.

I feel good about whoever we play in the Wild Card.
