I wish Aikman could take back every thing he's ever said on a broadcast. It's so hard for me to work up dislike for Buck when the guy next to him is miles worse. Yet another jackass carried by surrounding talent bitter about how the game has changed. How did we get stuck with Aikman AND Simms for this long?

A one-legged guy.

For serious though, the "safe" kind. In the modern NFL you aren't going to win it all managing the game. You have to be able to stretch the field out. Paired with an excellent defense that kind of QB good for 2-3 safe slow TD drives can get you into the playoffs, but is deeply unlikely to score enough to beat a real offense. Heck, its hard enough for a game manager to win out in the regular season. But Alex Smith playing 30-40 years ago? He'd have been perfect.

Pre-injuries Alex Smith would have been an absolute monster today. Another career killed by the league refusing to adapt to the talent being developed.

Aikman or Holden, pick one.

My take on Smith is a bit different: fuse pre -injury Smith with his post-injury enthusiasm for gunslinging, and you'd have a monster. I saw too many games where he'd turn down longer routes for the safest pass and defenses would end up collapsing on them. If Smith took a few more risks per game I am convinced he'd have opened up more options.

If KC used him best though, SF definitely didn't even try to get any further utility out of him. Which is where a lot of those games mentioned above happened.

Aikman is horrendous. God forbid he work a game that doesn't interest him, because he will set out to whine and ruin it for everyone.

He's taking a lot of heat for this, but he runs a good book. I think it's consensus right now.

SF > Dallas > PHL by opening line would have broad support.

Not fair because I half-watch soccer every 4 years whereas I can't avoid this jackass most weeks.

That’s all I needed to hear to know how you view Holden. All it took was a couple games and he’s already up there with the “best.”

The cards stink so let get that out of the way. Saying that the only team in nfc that remotely concerns me is 49ers. Plenty of time for jimmy g or Christian MC to get hurt again. But if they are healthy that offense is SCARY!
The defense is more frightening IMO. They are aggressive to the ball. They are without both their DTs too.

I strongly agree that he is a great person and player and pundit. Great post.

I love to knock the guy more than anyone and i'm not saying this as a knock about him but... can we cut it with the "he's still young" stuff? We saw it all last year where he was called "a rookie" because for some reason the year before didn't count. He doesn't need to be coddled.

He's almost out of his rookie deal.
Exactly. Stop coddling him. This is his third year. If he can't get his team into the playoffs there is no excuses.

I get what you are saying but look at this list of Super Bowl winning quarterbacks.
