OT: Philadelphia Eagles (NFL): When You're Up, It's Never As Good As It Seems, And When You're Down, You Never Think You'll Be Up Again

You have to pay Hurts. He was the best player on the field last night and he probably at the very least gets us to OT if he wasnt robbed of a chance due to one of the worst calls in Super Bowl history.

The defense was atrocious. Similar to KC realizing it needed to blow up the OL after SBLV the Eagles need to take a serious look at our own secondary and assess if it is good enough. Too many blown coverages in the 4th that cost us the game.

Miles Sanders needs to be escorted to free agency. He was invisible and when he did have the ball he had a knack for turning a 20 yard run into a 5 yard gain with a cut into the teeth of the defense. Whoever pays him market value is an idiot.

This Super Bowl will be remembered for the blown call at the end. For the neutral fan, this is the game that cements the reputation that the Chiefs have the refs in their pocket. They will never shake it and Mahomes is going to hear about it the rest of his career.

Andy Reid, loved him when he was with the Birds, but if he never waddles foot in Philadelphia again I'll be ok with it. The NFL made sure he beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl and as far as I'm concerned that relationship is forever tarnished because of it.
when i looked at the 2017 defense and this defense it wasnt even close, the 2017 defense was deep everywhere, corner, safties, linebackers, our dline experience all over, that's why we were able to stop brady, we knew how to stop him and the experience on that defense helped alot.

before the 49ers game, i had a feeling that this team wasnt a deep enough to win it all because this defense was nothing like the 2017 defense, so many young guys and i had a feeling that the chiefs were going to go after that and it costed us.

This is what I was worried about, Andy with two weeks to scheme and pretty much said the team with the last possession is going to win -- non-hail mary possession.

I believe this game was a microcosm, except for the Hurts fumble, of how most of our games went. Get up double digits by halftime offense and defense sputters and then watch teams claw their way back in, except this was the Chiefs so they took the lead.

2 weeks ago a guy posted in a GDT here that Whitney Houston had a bad voice. I told my family that negative karma would cost us the SB.

Just last night I pointed out that Whitney didn't have to lip synch and anyone who does is a scrub. But then I'm not an Eagles fan, so I guess that's why it didn't work karma-wise. Sorry about that.

You know Capt'n I have to end this thread musically,,,,,,,in respect to their valiant charge that ended in futility......

And just to follow this up, Mahomes has one of the very lowest Sack rates in the history of the NFL. Did we not learn from Wentz how much of that is on the QB?

Is it just that everyone saw that one Super Bowl where the Chiefs had no one left at Tackle and now they think any good set of rushers can do that?
People were looking at jimmy’s and Joe’s individually on the lines, IMO.

When it comes to the halftime shows, they’re not allowed to play live per the NFL if that’s what you’re referencing.

Eagles and fans got cheated because of the BS Call.... but we lost because of how pathetic Gannon and the D was..... how can you only send 4 guys all game and yet KC players consistently wide open all over the field..... That and the decision to bring back an injured punter (such a brutal punt).... statistically no way birds should've lost that game but heh were Philly and when things look good we always need to worry....better off when everyone thinks were going to lose lol

Do you think getting Fangio f**** up the Defense?? I just don't know how a team that has been prepared for most of the season looks so f***ing lost in the biggest game of the year.....how many Chiefs throws were actually contested??? at least 90% of the passes guys were wide open with no Eagles back close to them...weird when your only send 4 guys at Mahomes..... bizarre
The Eagles played 5 "good" QBs this year. Goff, Cousins, Rodgers, Prescott, and Mahomes. The only one they did actually well against was Cousins.

They feasted on crap.

The NFC is really up in the air, would require a bit of luck but they could get here again next season. I mean just look at the conference as of now.

They should have been able to push around the Chiefs dline, they didnt though. The other side of the ball, I agree. Thought the Chiefs would score over 30 points but wouldnt be enough. 35 wasnt enough. Most points ever by a losing team. The Eagles are setup to be playing in the playoffs and Gannon's scheme isnt an answer to be playing in them.

Are you guys not worried about the wear and tear on Hurts? He's taking a lot of running-back kind of attrition in a lot of these games (I think). That would be my biggest hesitation on the contract, but I don't know how you realistically can not sign him.

Yes, but if you like him enough as a player, you just live with the risk.

I just want to be clear that the options are not sign him and get rid of him no matter how many people say that. You can punt the contract like the Ravens did to Lamar. What you think they should do is your opinion and it can't be wrong. But that is a road you can choose to take. It will have consequences.

Defensive stats are a function of who you play, Part 18435.

Which doesn’t mean anything. He followed that statement up with that he was hoping they wouldn’t call it.

By the book it was a hold but by the standards installed by the crew for the previous 58 minutes it should not have been called.
I think it was the only “live ball” flag / moving violation the entire game. I don’t recall any other holding illegal contact PI personal foul block in the back flags

I'm so glad Bradberry explained this. The problem wasn't whether it was a penalty. It was. It's that players make decisions based on how that particular crew is calling that particular game. That's the social contract.

There was one OPI on Pascal, but that's obviously not DB play so it's up to you whether it counts or not.

It was Holding, for sure.

Yes, Pascal blocking whilst the ball was in the air.

Time to draft another backup.
This is key. But not just any old backup, a backup who has much the same skills and style as Hurts.

Hell the replays they were showing of the Devonta catch they overturned (which I feel was bullshit), there was obvious DPI being committed
I think this is an impossible fight to win. Either we go back to complete mugging which slows passing down, ABSOLUTELY no touches by the defenses which is going to basically make offenses unstoppable, or we keep the same subjective constant missed/debatable calls.

That 3rd & 1 Sweep late in the game with the fantastic CJGJ open field tackle was out of PRO SET. What a Don Majkowski-ass play.
