What's the difference though if the eventual MVP wasn't a defensive player
The voting has split off into QBs winning MVP and another guy winning OPOY. There's no need to make this any more complicated or for some reason keep saying that QBs need their own award. They have one. Some people just don't like what it is.
The voter guidance for MVP is specific to value to team. The OPOY guidance is not. It has functionally sorted itself out the right way.
OL and TEs can't win OPOY. DBs almost never win DPOY, although one did this year. Football is not conducive to awards like this. Look how difficult it is to sort out All Pro teams and those guys at least fit into some of the same generic buckets.
