He wasn't going to play this year so this saves the team $$$ on his 1-way deal, and gives a good soldier a chance to play. Hope he does well.

Played well last year, but his NHL games this year haven't really been very good.

Yeah they do these for vets, if he’s not getting a chance we might as well do him a solid and send him somewhere else so he can try to make it.

Really really happy for him. Hard worker, lots of characters, and a real thinker of the game. Hope he seizes this opportunity and establishes himself as a full time NHLer.

Oh, and all the best to Friedman as well. Never questioned his effort or bravery.

Future considerations is the money they move out.

Glad Friedman wasn't permanently injured by the hallacious hit he took early in the year in Abbotsford
Decent skater, pretty good passer but down low coverage wasn't near effective enough.

Maybe was the best player in the trade that saw Rathbone and Plasek head to the Penguins and return Friedman and Glover. Ultimately, however, nothing for nothing. And we had so much hope for Rathbone.

Almost forgot about Boner. Really a remarkable shift in Canucks d-prospect-land when Boner was the only thing of note versus present-day EP2, Willander, Mancini, Kud*******, and Mynio.

That said, I am sure that has been said multiple times before. EP2 looks like the real deal, but I also remember the Ellington and Connauton types which were also 'the real deal'.

By the way, what's Woo doing now? Have to think he's rather far down the chart.

I don’t ever recall Ellington being the “real deal”. Mainly he was viewed as a guy who could be on a shutdown pair if he could improve his skating and puck skills but that didn’t happen.
Connauton did have some upside as a guy who could pot a few goals with a big point shot while being decent defensively. He did manage to carve out a respectable NHL career (mainly in AZ) but never saw much PP time as OEL got most of that. After AZ, he played NHL games here and there for a few more years but now he’s in the AHL as a depth guy at close to 35 years old.

I had high hopes for Rathbone but his development's basically stalled out as a mid level AHL offensive D.

Wait, what?

Ellington was universally panned as a terrible pick from the moment we drafted him and went straight to the ECHL basically never to return.

Connauton had a nice WHL season that got a bit of hype but it became pretty obvious that he had pretty significant defensive issues when he hit the AHL as a pro.

Neither of those guys are even on the same planet as what EP2 is doing right now, where he looks like a competent NHL defender at age 20 and was an AHL All-Star.
