We move back 22 spots for a backup QB...and not even one that I'd want starting if Hurts isn't who I think he is (I think he can be a SB winning QB).

I like this so much better than trading for Fields
I don't really care one way or another about Fields, but this is a backup QB move, and I don't like swapping a 3rd for a 4th (I know it's a late 3rd). Especially when Pitt chose Russ over Pickett anyway (as they supposedly told Russ there would be no competition, he'd be the starter). So they needed to give Kenny away and still extracted good value in a trade.

This is a Howie L for me.

I wonder now if 50 or 53 will be dealt for more picks in the 3rd/4th rounds. Because going from 53 to 120 is quite a bit to wait.

I'm much happier swapping back from a comp 3rd to a 4th than giving up an outright 4th/5th for Fields, who I'm confident would've been more trouble than he's worth. Also, I still don't know if the Bears are going to dump Fields. But that's beside the point.

From what I can tell, the Steelers didn't actually want to get rid of Pickett and saw it a competition at QB with Russ. It sounds like Pickett forced his way out after the Russ signing.

Kenny Pickett is the Devin White of Quarterbacks. I was so happy until yesterday.

Ignore everyone talking about how he can be a game manager and all of that horseshit. That has NEVER been his game. He went nuts at Pitt when he started creating outside of structure at an extremely high level. He's not a good enough athlete to do that in the NFL. I wouldn't even prioritize him as a free agent, let alone giving away draft capital for this.

I want to be clear that I mean this with zero hyperbole. I have more hope for Tanner McKee than I do Pickett.

I'll say this was more compensation than I wanted to give up

I no longer trust Howie Roseman to evaluate QBs. I want to yell about the Wentz extension again. ZACH WILSON WAS THEIR GUY.

Oh you don't like trading away draft capital for someone who was arguably the worst Quarterback in football last year just because someone incompetently drafted him in the 1st round? That feels wrong to you too?

That's all you needed to say.

I'll say I disagree with you on that premise but it is what it is.

But also, I would've preferred to sign Tannehill or Jimmy G instead. So I'm not in love, just like it more than trading for Justin Fields.

Whatever you think of Fields is fine, but I would strongly urge you to reconsider any position that can be summed up as "I would prefer the guy who ran the same offense with the same talent as 29yo Mitch Trubisky and was clearly worse to the guy who might be good one day."

Kenny Pickett is older than Jalen Hurts. He only came out a few years ago, but he played FIVE seasons at Pitt because of COVID. And he sucked until Year 5.

I know and care very little about Pickett. If he plays enough to make a difference, we're probably f***ed, independent of his skill level, because it's likely an indicator of several other things going horribly wrong. That said, I want them to train him up to go full Sexy Rexy at all times, because Kenny Picks is too good of a malicious nickname to not be accurate.
