No, but not being strong enough down the middle can easily cost you a playoff series. Hell, the Flyers probably beat Pitt in the 1st round in 2018 if 18 year Patrick and Filppulas corpse wasnt our 2C/3C combo. They got abused.

Anyone complaining about this should stop being a Flyer fan for a month and try to be an Oiler fan for awhile

You do not need all the best names out there to be a good team

Believe it or not what killed the Oilers after their playoff run was shedding Pouliot, Eberle and losing Sekera due to injury. I doubt a single person would be ecstatic of acquiring any of those players. Yet here the Flyers want to add a 3C, top 4dman and a winger as per Fletch to an already deeper roster

Also, that season the Oil were pretty good, but Talbot was bailing them out quite a bit. Then at the TDL they filled their 3C hole with David F***** Desharnais. The results were crazy. Their whole dynamic changed. Not sayig DD is a great player by any means, but having a legit C there was more than noticeable

It's not a bad move, and he's in his prime..

But for those worried Fletch goes full mental, fingers crossed for a complimentary buyout during the next cba lol

Uncross them. Have no clue where I read this yesterday or today, but saw a write up discussing this, that a comp buyout was not looking like it was gonna happen. No clue of link or how credible

To be fair the relevant point of comparison with recent Oilers' history is when they signed a 28-year-old Milan Lucic to a seven-year deal. And everyone bashed it then.

It's not relevant at all. Lucic was a player slated for a huge decline, even when he was on LA

Hayes is not taking a beating physically and just had his best year

Okay then smart decisions Fletch, and only that.
I guess time will tell though, can't completely rule it out. And yes @Tripod Jets are completely gung ho on aquiring a potential 2c from us (Frost/Patrick) for Trouba

Wonder if they're interested in a signed Hayes

Jets fan here, coming in peace.

After the Hayes trade, seems like there’s been a few phone calls between both our GMs. Perhaps a sign of bigger things to come once playoffs are over and the spot light is refocused on trades leading up to the draft.

I dont think it would ever happen, but curious to see what philly fans would think about a potential blockbuster trade from the Winnipeg Jets involving:

To PHI - either Trouba or Myers (plus potential additions).

To WPG - Nolan Patrick, Ghost or Frost.

Fletch:

"We'll certainly have our roster upgraded next year, and hopefully we can find three or four players at 26 years old that we can plug in there for the next 6-7 years."

Yeah ok, Fletch. I'd love to see this magical upgrade list of 26 year olds he's landing. And maybe enough cap space in fantasyland to plug these guys in for 6-7 years.

That's a joke of a quote. Totally insincere. But I'm sure his corporate idiot boss loved hearing it.

I reaaally don't like Hayes as a player, so I don't like this move either. But if I try think this as objectively as I can, all I can say is 'meh'.

Trouba yes, Myers no. Patrick won't be traded.

For Trouba I would offer

2019 2nd (41#) 2020 first, Rubstov, Gudas
Or
#11, Gudas

Opinions will vary wildly (obviously) but that's my offer

I’d love Hayes here as a stop-gap. Good age, good fit, allows us to roll three lines while Giroux is kept at wing.

I’d hate more than three, maybe four years (if the hit is low enough) though. I’ll be surprised if he gets that little though based on how free agency is, them trading for his rights, and Fletcher’s history.

About to get Hamhuis'd. The pending UFA trade is always a good time.

I'll wait on the (maybe) contract before I jump off my balcony. I don't dislike the player at least.

Really good move Chucky!

You have first PLUS in this summer. I hope that you will be continue in this way.

Hayes is underrated center, good as s 2C, elite as a 3C.

6 years is lock imo. Anything under 6M per year would be great sign.

A 5th round pick backing us into the corner? Jesus christ, this forum.
Lol, yep. The team has one of the best/deepest prospects pools in the entire league. This year they have the 11th overall pick and three additional picks in the top 75 (41, 65, 72). Meanwhile there are actually some posters bent out of shape over the 5th round pick. Clear proof that some people just need something to complain about.

They still have 9 picks in total

First round 11
Second round 41
Third round 65
Third round 72
Fourth round 103
Sixth round 165
Sixth round 169
Seventh round 196
Seventh round 201

Pretty sure the Flyers will be able to manage without having that 5th rounder considering they have all of those picks to add to an already stacked prospect pool.

Could be worse, I’ll reserve final judgement until they actually sign him. As long as the cap hit isn’t outrageous, it should be ok.
