Flyers fan coming in peace just asking about Weal.

I know you guys don't like him, but has he played wing at all? Or can he play wing?

Thanks!

Lots of guys here like him, but he just hasn't shown much at the NHL level on the Kings. Worked hard at every level, but it just wasn't meant to be here.

He played wing in some select games in the AHL, so he's capable.

I wish him the best, except when he's playing the Kings.

a lot here really like him, I am so/so
He did a lot of great thing in Manchester this year, and DL liked him to the point that he did not want to expose him on waivers. That is why he has only seen 10 gameso f action this year.
He still needs to develop but on a contending team likely is hard to find icetime.

Thanks. Sorry wasn't meant as a shot. More posting based off of what I was reading on main boards. Flyers are pretty tied up down the middle, and with his size we thought he would be maybe looked at on the wing.

Thanks!

don't think it came off as a shot

He can cover wing, as he did so in Manchester. He's small, but pretty tenacious when digging pucks out of the corners. He uses his size pretty well and doesn't necessarily get easily pushed out of the play/off the puck.

Don't read the main boards. Accomplished geniuses reading the main boards have turned into babbling Pejorative Slurs in less than a week.

It's a proven fact. I'll try to find the research paper on the subject and will post a link when I find it.

Weal has just had an up and down transition from the AHL to the NHL. The things you do in the AHL may not work in the NHL. Weal has gotten caught with turnovers in the defensive zone doing things that probably worked in the minors. Offensive zone, same thing. You have to either do whatever you do quicker, or do something else. It's the same thing with Mersch. The moves he did in pre-season or in the AHL, they get stopped in a regular season game. He has to get to the net faster, or he has to change his game.

My stock in the AHL isn't very high anymore in regards to points. Kings have had too many high scoring small stature guys that can't translate to the NHL.

After sleeping on it, I think the only two "holes" the Kings had was a shutdown 3rd pairing D and 3C. Schenn isn't the 2nd coming, but does solve the 3rd pairing D issue. The real problem in Philly and Toronto isn't solely the defensmen, it's the lack of forward support. The Kings system is right in Schenn's wheelhouse, he will do nicely as one of our regulars.

I don't think 3C is addressed at all with VL except by a longshot. But really, how big is that hole? Offensively its a bit of a problem, but defensively both Lewis and Shore are above average. Plus, when you have two first line caliber centers, it's not a problem late in a game to just stick with those 2. Anything VL does is just a bonus.

I don't recall, but I seriously doubt that Dwight King and Jordan Nolan were the top scorers in Manchester when they were called up in 2012.

Every defenseman on the Kings gets to play with Kopitar, Lewis (and there are other very competent forwards in their own zone, or they don't get ice time), Doughty, and Muzzin at some point. That helps any defenseman's game.

So can DL actually force Lecavalier to retire if he changes his mind at the end of the season? I don't think you can sign a contract that the player has to retire, I'd imagine its just his word.I'm very hesitant about promises after the Richards debacle.

He cannot force him to retire. A contract is a contract.

After having a day to think about it I'm ok with this trade, it's not great or good, just ok. Maybe DL didn't want to waste anymore youth on rentals after what happened with Sekera last season.

Schenn is the key to the deal. Remember he was drafted with Doughty and played in a lot of tournaments with him. That would potentially set up a Doughty-Schenn, Muzzin-Martinez, and Mcnabb-Ehroff/McBain duo.

All those 3 on the last pair played together in Buffalo and Doughty-Schenn have experience together.

I don't think that it's so much that people dislike him, but more that there's an acknowledgment that he's not quite ready. Jordan Weal is like a player stuck between the development level of the AHL and the NHL. He's still trying to sort out what he can and can't do skill wise, which has lead to some questionable on-ice plays.

The two that stand out for me are when instead of making the simple play up the boards or off the glass he's tried to finesse the puck and cut into the middle of the ice in front of the goalie. I believe both times (for sure on one) he's gotten leveled which lead to costly goals against.

The head coach needs to be able to trust that the player can make the simple plays that are not going to hurt the team, but he hasn't quite gotten there. At least to me it seemed like he was trying to force some things to happen on the ice with his skill to earn the coach's approval instead of keeping it simple and letting the game unfold naturally through hard work.

I'm sure it was frustrating for a young skill player, but you have to go through that process, you know?

Didn't realize they played buffalo thanks for that tidbit.

I'm not sure how I feel about breaking up the top two pairings. Also I would really limit schenn ice time at least until he gets familiar with the system.

That's what I mean. Big grinders with some scoring ability seem more likely, ala Mersch. Even Shore had decent AHL numbers but can't find an NHL scoring touch.

He can't, the cupboard is too sparse at the moment.

From TSN article:

Luke called the fit "perfect" - and admitted he was a little surprised to be heading to a top-end team. Last week, after the Flyers lost in L.A., Luke said his teammates remarked how the Kings were their toughest opponent of the season. After 532 career games, he has only played in one playoff series, a number that figures to change in April.

Love hearing other players talk about the Kings like this.

Love it. Who wants to play agaisnt Lucic, Kopitar, Andreoff, Pearson, Mersch, and Nolan in terms of size and then Carter, Toffoli and Gaborik in terms of skill.

Highly unlikely pairings. Schenn and Doughty are both RHD. DL said Schenn was brought in to stabilize the 3rd pairing. More likely McBain sits and we get Erhoff-Schenn on the 3rd pairing to start.
