Gaborik was absolutely insane in the last Cup run, I was not expecting a performance like that at all. Pure scoring domination.

Hoping VL turns out to be like Handzus on the 2014 Hawks or something.

It's going to take more than one game. Especially for Schenn the Kings system will take a few, maybe 15-20, to really grasp what they expect from him. Patience.

Assuming VL plays, how will our lineup look?

Lucic-Kopitar-Toffoli
Pearson-Carter-Gaborik
Mersch-VL-Brown
AA/Nolan-Shore-Lewis

I like that lineup. Does anyone remember how effective Nolan and Cliffy looked between Shore. Not just as fourth liner shutdown duty... Remember they actually potted goals with Shore in the middle.

I'm sure some of you may remember how I used to question Lombardi's every move. Bad trade. What are you doing Dean?!? And then we won the Cup. It made me realize I don't know **** about hockey. And some of you need to realize that too. That man knows what he is doing. I never thought I see one - I was in total shock for an entire year after that wondering if it really happened - and then we won two. A lot of of us message board warriors just don't know as much as these guys and that is the truth.

:handclap: my favorite part of reading others opinions who participate here.

hockeys future filled with 90% of really slick nobodies who think their opinion is important. if they were so smart they would...

I mean, I don't disagree, but it IS a discussion board, and it's not a trade that's beyond criticism. If anyone presumes to REALLY know any better than DL they should just walk off themselves, but most of what I've seen from Kings fans has been "Why?" because we're not given much at face value to work with, you know? We've just been talking through it, trying to understand it, and trying to figure out where these guys slot in because we're ****ing Kings nuts and had nothing to do between last game and next game :)

I'll have you know that I'm a really slick nobody who knows his opinion is worth less than the lint in his pocket

Not sure this trade will do anything for the Kings! Schenn has struggled. VL is old. The Kings just got slower! Schenn will need a partner. Not sure who fits this.

Eh, Williams was still pretty young, and his injuries in Carolina were bizarre accidents, mostly.

Lecavalier is as broken down as Richards. Don't get it twisted here. This is an old, decaying hockey player who is retiring at the end of the year for a reason. I don't doubt that the coaching staff here can get some marginal use out of him for a playoff run, but that's about it.

I honestly don't really care about this trade. Weal was doing nothing here. The third is whatever - we're in win more. The Flyers can keep winning trades and the Kings will keep winning Cups. I'm fine with that.

Remember how many people hated trading Patrick O'Sullivan for a broken down, injury prone Justin Williams? Someone dig that trade thread up.

Oh yeah. That was me, and that was the main one I was talking about when I realized I didn't know salmon from carp.

And what SettlementRichie10 talks about above is a lot of the reason why. We are not privy to the doctor's evaluations of injuries and nor do we get the privilege of knowing the players personalities and reputations first hand or really even get to talk to and evaluate all of them.

I'm not saying not to discuss either Brad because you're right that is the point of this board, but like you said just know that we know about as much as lint.

VL is a gamble... guy could score at one point, he may still have a shot... good size frame... slow/broken down.... The Kings system isn't built on speed, it's built on large slow moving guys....

The last few teams to win the cup... who did they have at the 3/4C? Stoll/M.Richards/Lewis/Bolland/Handzus/B.Richards... This is the level of play VL needs to reach to be effective for this team. If he can't pull it off it's 2.25M of dead capspace, not the end of the world. Kings can still add around a $5M UFA at the deadline. (Unless I screwed up the math)

Other UFA centers that are out there...
S.Gagner: Can score against the Hawks when not in the AHL.
Backes: STL probably not selling right now
E.Staal: Probably would have been pricey, has been playing LW
Then there's guys like Legwand forgot Hudler (HOOODDDDOOORRRR!)

Not a lot of good centers available... VL is a low cost/low risk shot... Kings get to see if he can be at all useful then make moves after they know what they've got. Either way he'll be off the books next year so who cares?

He'll probably retire anyways as he doesn't have to deal with hockey and still has the TB buyout rolling in for a while... is that around 30M? He could ride the bench, wait for a buyout, sit in the AHL for 6M more over the next 2 years... The thought of walking away from $6,000,000 is crazy to most people, but would you rather be raking in $30M and off fishing somewhere (don't let Richards near your bags) or sitting on your butt for an extra $3M/year?

I'm sure L.Schenn will be fine... He's replacing Greene for the love of god... is he going to be slower or take more stupid penalties? I love Greene, but I didn't even think this team needed to replace him, ok Kings got a replacement... cool..

Moar size, Moar nasty....

Edit: **** Insomnia...

Schenn will be a good fit on your blueline, he's the kind of D Sutter likes.

Lecavalier is pretty garbage at this point, bad defensively, drags down his linemates possession stats. Can probably contribute on the 2nd PP unit though.

I am pumped about Schenn to be honest. I think he will help the PK and a lot of people here will love him as soon as he levels someone.

The vinny part is meh IMO. with his back issues and how he has regressed I am not expecting much.
Schenn will help our D and can play top 4 if someone gets injured. Although hopefully he will not have to.

Haven't peeled back all the pages of this thread but a couple notes below I pulled from a site. I'm sure some of this has been covered but for those who haven't been in the loop..

"The Flyers are eating half of the contracts for both Lecavalier and Schenn. Lots of people are throwing around cap hits of $2.25 million for Lecavalier and $1.8 million for Schenn but are forgetting to prorate those deals to the current date. Halfway into the year both guys are already halfway into their contracts for the season so my belief is those guys are actually costing half of what’s being thrown around. $2 million for the rest of the year for those two isn’t so bad.

Also, some folks (myself included) are wondering about cap recapture penalties. The word is Lecavalier’s contract does not qualify for cap recapture so his arranged retirement after this season won’t cost the Flyers or Kings anything. For all intents and purposes, Lecavalier is on a one-year deal."

...until someone steals their avatars...:naughty:

I have him covered.

The posts that get to me are the ones spoken like its truth. VL is garbage... Schenn would clear waivers... Piss off. Dean Lombardi does his homework and while he doesn't get them all right (See Frattin, Matt) he does pull it off better than most do, hence why he's got more diamonds on his right hand than a mid-70's pimp. If DL thinks it's a good move, how about we let the players actually land in LA before we start calling the team cockeyed for trading the almighty Jordan Weal and a friggin 3rd away.

People act like trading away a third means something because we drafted Jonathan Quick once in the third round. You know who else was a 3rd rounder? Jordan ****ing Weal.

I'll bet everyone said the same when Chicago grabbed Michal Handzus. How broken down was he?

Unless you are Dr. Icareforvinny you don't have a clue. VL could be complete crap and be eating pressbox popcorn in a week, or maybe he was in a bad situation in Philly and would benefit with a fresh start in a new system in LA, just like Handzus in Chicago. Give it a day.

Win-Win-Win-Win-Win (Kings-Flyers-Lecavalier-Weal-Schenn). Everybody gets what he wants out of this deal. How many trades do you see like this happen? DL is a magician.

I'd love to see a compilation of Lombardi's trades over the years for the Kings. I'd say that his trade history has been better than his drafting history.

No, Hextall is the magician and Lombardi is the idiot. Get with the program.

Flyers fan coming in peace just asking about Weal.

I know you guys don't like him, but has he played wing at all? Or can he play wing?

Thanks!
