First of all...I have serious doubts re Zanetti's NHL upside...but interesting news are making headlines recently. This article talks about Brian Zanetti's decision to sign with smaller club SCL Tigers instead of Lugano.

This is interesting for many reasons mostly also mentioned in the article. Zanetti was born and raised in Lugano, has played for no other organization than Lugano (and Peterborough). His agent is a Lugano legend and Zanetti could have earned much more money in Lugano. Lugano also openly talked about signing Zanetti already so this is quite a bummer for them.

I think it's an interesting but smart decision. The Tigers are more committed to player development than Lugano typically is. Even though Lugano is trying to change that now and has a very young (but inexperienced) coach I think the Tigers are the better choice. Headcoach Thierry Paterlini is easily one of the top3 coaches with Swiss passport...maybe the best. Granted, competition sadly isn't all that great at the moment but I'm pretty high on Paterlini. Will be interesting to monitor Zanetti's development when he does turn pro next season under Paterlini's watch.

Signing in Langnau with the Tigers certainly shows a certain commitment to the cause from Zanetti. It would have been an easy decision for him to just return home to Lugano and make good money but instead he chose the option where he thinks he can become a better player to eventually achieve his goals in hockey and becoming an NHL player. That's also how he's quoted on the Petes website:

How does that impact the Flyer's rights? Two year deal.
I'm no expert but I don't think it changes anything. He might even attend the Flyers camp should he get an invititation. Flyers hold his exclusive rights for 4 years post draft so they can still sign him anytime until June 2025.

Switzerland used to be a bit of an exception re exclusive signing rights because similar to the KHL, for many years the Swiss pro leagues wouldn't agree to a transfer agreement with the NHL. Therefore, NHL teams used to hold the rights of players earning their money in Switzerland indefinitely. On the minus side however, NHL teams had to respect their prospects contracts in Switzerland.

Now that a transfer agreement is in place I think the clock will continue to tick but on the plus side, NHL teams can sign their prospects anytime they wish.

Phantoms lineup (Wednesday's game)

28 Olle Lycksell - 51 Artem Anisimov - 23 Bobby Brink
17 Garrett Wilson - 91 Elliot Desnoyers - 71 Tyson Foerster
24 Adam Brooks - 9 Cal O'Reilly - 42 Hayden Hodgson
20 Max Willman -18 Jackson Cates - 14 Zayde Wisdom

4 Egor Zamula - 47 Louie Belpedio
37 Adam Ginning - 12 Ronnie Attard
44 Kevin Connauton - 29 Wyatte Wylie

32 Felix Sandström
[35 Pat Nagle]

Scratches: 19 Isaac Ratcliffe (healthy), 25 Cooper Marody (injured in Tuesday's game), 15 Jordy Bellerive (illness), 6 Linus Högberg (healthy), 13 Ryan Fitzgerald (healthy), 3 Adam Karashik (healthy).

Note: Tuesday's lineup was identical with the exception of Marody starting at RW4 and Wisdom being scratched. Ratcliffe last dressed in the Dec. 30 game and has been a healthy scratch in eight straight games (Dec. 31 through Jan. 18).

Zanetti was drafted out of the Swiss league(s) so he always had a four year signing window. He came over to the CHL post draft so he wasn’t bound to their two year signing window. The Flyers hold his rights until June 1st, 2025.

Assuming Cutter Gauthier plays, Boston College is scheduled to be on NESN a few times in the next month or so.

Kaplan has outplayed O'Brien on the same team:

Kaplan 21g 6-9 15 +10
O'Brien 21g 2-14 16 -2

Kaplan turned 19 in January, O'Brien turned 23 in November.
I doubt O'Brien has anything more than 4th line potential, it's not like BU is a defense first team like Minn-Duluth.
Greene (19) 17 points in 19g
Brown (23) 28 points in 21g (undrafted)
Skoog (23) 16 points in 20g (undrafted)
All outscoring him on the same team - at his age, O'Brien should be dominate at this level.
He's playing a little better 10g, 1-9 10 +1 his last ten games, but unless he has a strong finish, take the pick.

I suspect his "allergy" is coach induced, he's a big boy and doesn't seem to be timid about contact.
But if he's got the best shot on the team, the HC might has asked him to shoot and let others to clean up the garbage.

So coaching heavily influences how players behave?

It's weird to see this from you after so many years insisting otherwise.

In 7 games Brink has 6 shots on goal and 4 goals . That's a whopping 66.7 shooting percentage . Hey Deadly he must be ready bring him up .

Keep an eye on Samson, late birthday (August), only played 22 games his pre-draft season.
6'1 181 when drafted, probably closer to 200 lbs now. RHD.
Still looks a bit awkward, but last 10 games, 5-9 14.

Funny thing, EP had him pegged as a defensive defenseman:

"He pre-scans on retrievals, occasionally makes a crafty backhand pass into space, and accelerates through passes to join the rush. Currently, Samson’s best area is defence, where his physicality, consistent motor, and the occasional early stop in neutral zone provide an encouraging framework. "

The little I've seen of Samson, he has a looooong way to go with defensive play. Poor defensive awareness, poor angles, he's got a lot of work ahead to make the NHL.

He has raw athleticism, strength, and a hard shot, so there are tools, but man I don't know if he has enough feel for the game to mold. Wil be a good challenge for AHL staff.

Andy Delmore, maybe?
