Are Ratcliffe and Wisdom hurt? No matter how they are developing they should be playing over O'"Really?", Wilson, Brooks, Willman, Hodgson.....

Prospect alert! I pointed out a week ago that Avon was starting to get hot, missed his OHL season two years ago, signed after a good showing in camp as a UFA, 6'0 181 at 18 is a good frame for a player with speed.`
July birthday, so missing a year really had him behind his peers.
So-so season last year, slow start this year, but last ten games: 8-9 17 +11.

Don't think they're gonna sign JOB, at 23, 18g 2-11 13 -3, compare to 18 year old Kaplan on the same team, 19g 4-8 12 +7.

Ginning 30g 2-9 11 +17 - Wylie +5, Hogberg +3, other D-men are negative.
Either he's the luckiest player in the AHL, or he's doing something right.

You act like you just discovered +/- (30 games!) and didn’t watch the much longer career of Bob Hogg. He’s probably being torched in possession. We get it — you’re licking your chops for this plug to prove us all wrong. Don’t worry, the organization is licking their chops too.

We'll see. From what I've seen of Ginning so far, he looks like a solid defensive defenseman who makes good exit passes and is careful with the puck. Not a dynamic player by any means, but a decent skater. He may turn out to be Hagg with a brain.

But +17 in 30 games on a team where all the other D-men hover around zero is pretty impressive.
Sure, it could be a statistical fluke, but odds say that's a low probability event given the size of the outlier.

He does lead the team in shots, so he is getting/making chances. Is it bad luck or a bad shot? If it is bad luck what would his stats look like with a slightly improved shooting %. He did not play in one of the games this weekend...

Meanwhile Gauthier had 1G 1A with 9 shots in his return..

If that is what he is in the AHL he's doomed in the NHL.

Adam Ginning = Hagg/Ristolainen 2.0

Sloppy short area skating (limits speed & power), chases hits regularly that take him out of position, and processes the game slowly. He will be torched if he ever gets in some NHL games.

Disappointment will come to those who are optimistic about his NHL future. He is the quintessential poor JAG.

+\- is a joke of a stat.
Someone here keeps bringing up GF%, which is just +/- in % form, why aren't you objecting to that usage?

+/- is limited, but when you don't have other data, +/- relative to other teammates has informative value, especially for D-men who tend to play with most of the forward lines. In short samples it's going to be strongly influenced by goalie play, over larger samples that will even out.

When someone has an extreme outlier relative to teammates, it's worth exploring the cause.

Myers was an example where metrics were less informative than +/-, he had good metrics yet has leaked goals at every stop, probably b/c metrics didn't adequately measure how bad the scoring chances against created by his brain farts.

I don’t follow or give a flying f*** about the fancy stats either. And never will.

To add onto this. It’s about the eye test if they are a negative, they shouldn’t even have a job.
