Tuomaala is up with Jukurit in Liiga now. Not playing much.
View attachment 627999

Edit: NVM
Tuomaala hasn't played in previous 2 games. Jukurit are missing some forwards too right now, so I don't think Tuomaala will play many more Liiga games this season. He has been outplayed by two 2024 draft eligible players Konsta Helenius and Topias Hynninen.

“We’ll always have Mestis.”

Not so fast. He has a 3 year ELC. They had a 4 year window to see how it played out but they signed him asap, because they foolishly thought he could play in the AHL at 18.
Who would've thought

“He has elite tools, his skating is elite, and his shooting is elite,” said one scout. “His game instincts and hockey IQ are not so good. Someone will draft him, and he’ll go fairly high, but I’m cautious. Is he a smaller Jesse Puljujarvi? Tuomaala was outstanding in junior and played up in the Liiga, but when you move up the ladder, things get exposed.”

Zamula has regressed as the season has gone along.
Injury?
Sulking about being sent back?

York on the other hand took his demotion to heart and raised his game.

Ginning has played surprisingly well.
Wonder if @Appleyard has caught any of his LHV games and can give us a read on whether he's improved or it's just "puck luck".

He has had a nice ~7-8 game streak going on... in a worse league than he played the last few years aha.

but I dont think he has miraculously turned a corner. Still makes most of same mistakes and first ~18 games or so looked worse than ~4-5 other Phantoms D, including guys getting scratched.

It's a different league however, (lots of SHL players struggle initially with NA ice).
The fact that he's turned a corner, maybe? Bears watching.
I don't think he's more than a 3rd pair guy, but nothing wrong with a big, physical stay at home 3rd pair guy you can pair with a smurf.

I'm patient, look at Lycksell, meh, then he gets on a line with Anisimov, takes off, gets a NHL cameo, meh, but there are flashes there, I don't want to rush to judgement, give him a few more months. Maybe he just needs to adjust to the smaller ice (smaller windows, different angles).

I'll watch Ginning tomorrow night, all I want from him is what I've seen the last couple times, solid positioning, good D-zone exit passes, nothing stupid.

Ginning is sunk costs, you know, those valuable 2nd rd picks!
If he becomes a solid 3rd pair D-man, they got something out of the pick.

Why did they call up Lycksell only to rot him in the pressbox? If it is because "he is not suited for the 4th line" then call up someone like Hodgson to rot in the box.....

Options.
But also they might want him to practice with the team for a couple days before they throw him into a game again.
Which makes life easier for a young player.
Same reason I hope they don't play him on the right side (forced to do so in an earlier cameo).
Best to put prospects in a position to succeed when they first come up (shelter them, don't ask them to play out of position).

Ginning is the dream player for the type of “fan” who hates guys like Ghost, since he’s the exact opposite.

Ghost has everything but size, Ginning has size but nothing else.
He is learning how to fight. That's "some Thing" the flyers value.... and he has a great teacher. A locker room legend a all time franchise player. He has seen various countries. He studied in Great Britain to make his fighting more professional. Credit where credit is due!

Dont be like that. See the positives and the chances for the future. I can feel it in my veins. Ginning will be a save bet in our lineup. And he will fight like Mandog, Seeler, Big Dick Nick and all i have forgotten.

Flyers hockey!

Keep an eye on Avon, I liked him in camp a year ago, he missed an OHL season due to COVID, came out slow this year, but last five games: 7-3 10 +6. Kid has speed, a good frame, so this is a good sign.

Standout performances at the 2022 World Junior A Challenge

Team USA

Alex Bump, LW, Omaha Lancers (Philadelphia Flyers)

It took until the last game of the tournament, but Alex Bump finally got rewarded for his overall solid performance at the event.

While his skating does have some mechanical quirks -- his feet kick the air before recovering under him -- Bump can run the puck through a team by himself when he gets some runway. His physical skills help him keep the puck away from sticks and recover it on the boards.

His tendency to want to make the highlight-reel play cost him on the score sheet, though. Bump has to improve his decision-making and awareness under pressure. Using his teammates earlier in possession sequences would make the game easier for him.

Phantoms came out slow, and Gauthier was hot in goal for the Pens.
But without York and Lycksell, there is no one dynamic on the Phantoms, and it shows.

Anisimov, Desnoyers, Cates, Bellerive are your centers, and you wonder why they struggle to score?
There's a reason they didn't try to find a contract slot for Anisimov, he doesn't have the legs for the NHL anymore.
Brooks seems out of position at LW,
They're trying to put more on Desnoyers but he's a work in progress.

Zamula is making the same mistakes (turnovers) at LHV that he did in Philly.
No one stood out on defense, though Hogberg looked much better, but he's more a steady defender, not much in the way of offense.
Attard is a work in progress, I suspect he's still trying to integrate basic defense and is thinking too much.

Willman is the only forward with speed, O'Reilly is in free fall.
Foerster has a ways to go with skating and puck handling, Bellows looked better (he should, he's four years older).

There are some players with futures, but I don't see any top 6/top 4 types right now.
But Foerster, Desnoyers and Wisdom are only 20, Zamula, Ginning, 22, Wylie, Attard 23.

Maybe he doesn't have the smarts or high hockey sense. Hope that isn't the case.

Been the case for how many years now? This is nothing new. Low level types which they will not give a shot to anyway. They will stick to the old 4th line vet mantra as long as Torts is the had coach.

The prospects in LHV right now are better served playing a lot of minutes in the AHL.

Foerster for example probably needs a summer to work on his skating and improve his puck handling, if he struggles a bit in the AHL, he'll be eaten alive in the NHL.

Only a handful of NHL players are ready at 19-20 years old, and they tend to be top 15 picks.

Most don't start until they're 22-24 years old, with D-man generally a year or so older than forwards, especially D-men who lack top skating skills (b/c they need the experience to avoid mistakes they can't outskate).
