They'll be holding tryouts the last 20 games or so.
This season, 6 starters are 23 and under. (Frost, Tippett, Farabee, Cates, York, Hart), 2 are 25 (TK, Allison).
Next season, probably another 3-4, with Attard (24) and Lyckell (24) in the running. Gauthier, Foerster, Desnoyers, Andrae, Zamula.
In two years, 12+ starters are likely to be 25 and under.

No they won't.

Hershey has the Phantom's number.
Hershey is a testament to good signings of AHL players, they only have a couple real prospects, but they've got a bunch of really good AHL+ types and play fast.

Zamula really looks like meh right now, too many turnovers.

I'd take Ginning over him, Ginning plays a simple game but I can see why he has such good +/- numbers, he learned his limitations from his 250 SHL games and doesn't try to do too much. Blocks shots, anticipates passes, gets the puck out of the D-zone, plays it safe on offense, which allows Attard to be more aggressive. 3rd pair is probably his ceiling, but I can see him making a career out of being a physical, safe D-man with functional mobility.

Anisimov is too slow for a team like Hershey, so is O'Reilly, who managed to have a good game but really looked cooked skating.

Lycksell was MIA, Hershey is a good test b/c they play at closer to NHL speed than most AHL teams.
Same with Foerster, who has work to do.
Both players have to play faster, they simply couldn't keep up in this game.

Desnoyers has a future, but I think he's an example of a player who'll need to add strength to be effective at the next level. Likes to go to the dirty areas but gets bounced around a bit.

Cates was effective, like Willman he has speed but just lacks enough skill for the NHL, though Cates > Willman.

Yup this is why I watch them play against good AHL teams . It is pretty much what I saw a few days ago when they played Hershey .

My only real comment is that Ginning plays simple but he does not create any thing for himself or his team mates . He is kind of like a bigger version of Hogberg .

There is way more speed at the NHL level than in the AHL and watching games like this are way more telling than just looking at the stat sheet .

I’m starting to get Vorobyev vibes from Zamula.

Good WJC for Russia, gets some notoriety, flashes skill as a young pro in small samples, has good height/reach though not strong or fast, is expected to become a regular NHLer and…. stalls at an AHL/NHL tweener level whose game is best suited for overseas.

Or maybe a 4th rd pick and a UDFA simply reached their potential.

Vorobyev has become a solid middle six forward in the KHL at 26, he's 5th in scoring among forwards on his team.
That may have been his ceiling all along.

Zamula lacks speed and strength, he's a smooth skater and good passer who lacks dynamic qualities and who hasn't improved his decision making.

This is the same Zamula you wanted on the Flyers ahead of York? You also thought Attard looked better than York just a couple of months ago.

I think Attard is actually more impressive looking than York.

Think he needs a year in the AHL to polish the fundamentals he didn't learn in college as a "rover," but he has a howitzer (can see him with York on the PP down the road, sliding into the right circle and blowing pucks past goalies), is big, physical and a good skater.

Right now York is better in LHV, you're not going to pair him with Risto at this point, when they're trying to repair Risto and teach him how to play defense. York has said he's not comfortable on the right side, and at this point I just want to get Zamula more time at LHD before trying him at RHD.

Anything to see in Reading rookie goalie Nolan Maier? Believe he signed two-way with Lehigh Valley/Royals after overage season in the WHL.

Tough to judge by numbers since Reading has been pretty dominant but with depth in front of him looks like organization might have another goalie worth developing.

York looked like crap in TC, people who deny that either didn't watch or need to visit an ophthalmologist.
I believe the story that said he bulked up too much last summer, after a couple months in the AHL he started skating like he did last spring. And since he's returned he looks even better. He's also embraced the RHD role, though long run I think he'd rather be a LHD.

I was right about Attard needing that year, he's been struggling with mastering fundamentals, hopefully he's starting to get over the hump. The skating is solid, the shot is still plus, but he has looked lost at times. Settling down paired with Ginning, which could be our third pair next season.

Zamula has flatlined, he looked like he belonged last spring, but has been meh in LHV. I think it's more of a mental thing, he turns the puck over too often for a guy who's never going to be an offensive force. Maybe he's trying too hard to get back to Philly?

Why do you believe this?

It certainly sounds like a bad development process considering the team relentlessly pushes bulking on everyone.

Which is weird since I'm assured there's no flaws with how they develop players.

B/c when a young player overdoes the weights, they tend to get stiff and slower.
A good strength program combines weight lifting with exercises to maintain flexibility, and focuses on balanced strengthening.
A well designed program can make some players faster, as it works the legs as well as the upper body.

The fact that York improved his lateral agility after a couple months suggests he over did it - while he needed more upper body strength, it's not something you can do in one summer - most players gradually fill out in their late teens and early 20s.

So, when a player bulks up too much because his team obsesses over bulking up, would you say that's good development?
