I didn't realize that Gauthier's dad played in the NHL as a goalie. Four minutes for the Sharks.

I wonder if that's the fewest amount of ice time in NHL history for a goalie....

How have you already forgotten this Flyers LEGEND?!?!?!

Adam Ginning is the +/- leader for the Phantoms at +5...........

Foerster and York lead the team in points which I guess is a positive........
The young guys are finally leading the way on the Phantoms. I would like to see ice time stats if anyone has them. Hopefully the O'reilly's, Garrett's and Kile's of the world are relegated to 4th line/scratch list....

Lycksell was injured, just came back this weekend.
And I don't think he's long for Allentown.
Like many SHL players, he needed a little time to adjust to NA ice and angles. The windows are a little tighter.

Anisimov centered Lycksell and Foerster and that line was dominant, Foerster looked much better than the last time I saw him, and Lycksell was a tier above the rest all night, but Anisimov was smooth, and having a competent veteran center certainly helped young forwards find their game.

Desnoyers also had a great game, he's both a defensive maven and a goal scorer.
Wisdom played well, but his defensive game is ahead of his offensive game right now, but late birthday, doesn't turn 21 until July.

York was solid, but the player who surprised me was Ginning, from the way he's trashed around here I expected some lunkhead, but he's actually a smooth skater, makes nice passes, seemed to be in the right place all game - not going to be a dynamic play driver at the NHL level, but has real potential as a defensive D-man with enough skill to start the rush up ice.

The Phantoms overwhelmed Rochester, best game I've seen from them in a few years, and that was with Meier in goal.

Zamula looked a little shaky, probably rust, but that's why it's good for him to be in the AHL so he can play and practice on a regular basis.

Right now, as bad as the Flyer forwards are playing, especially on defense, I can see why Torts would be reluctant to play rookies on defense. Get one thing fixed before you start playing a bunch of inexperienced D-men.

It's not like there's any rush, the AHL is just below the KHL and about the level of the SHL and Liiga, so if it doesn't hurt players to stay in those leagues until they're 22-23, it won't hurt our D-prospects to play in the AHL at 21-22. And right now the Phantoms seem a more stable environment for learning than the Flyers.

Agree on Anismov. I really don't like the AHL veterans, but it is mostly due to the organization's view of "veteran presence" and their high regard for it (even when it sucks). If they are used for development then great, but the problem with these guys is they usually find a way to weasel themselves on the NHL roster....

Regarding Ginning - basically a Risto without the albatross contract? maybe a tad smarter?

Too early to tell, I think Risto has more offensive skills, but Ginning is a big D-man who isn't a stiff.

How good is he? We'll see. He struggled for years in the SHL, but started there at 17, full-time starter at 20, and made progress last year at 21. Real good playoff series, 19g, 3-2 5 +5. 204 SHL games and 32 SHL PO games.

A lot of big D-men don't emerge until they're 24 or so, some is better body control as they mature, some is growing into a role that depends more on experience than skill. Most defensive D-men can't outskate the field, they have to be efficient, understand positioning and angles and anticipate what opposing players will do. That's what I look for in Ginning.

Which is why I'm also watching what Shaw does with Risto, I tihink Risto as a high draft pick was given too much leeway in Buffalo and developed bad habits - but watching him since he returned to the lineup, he's playing much more under control, using his stick more, not chasing hits. And he's effective attacking in the O-zone like a PF. We'll see if this is sustainable.

During his NHL career Risto has run through eight coaches- Ted Nolan, Dan Bylsma, Phil Housley, Ralph Krueger, Don Granato, Alain Vigneault, Mike Yeo, and now, Torts. None of these guys has been able to make a half decent player out of Ristolainen. The guy's a bum. He's not going to change. It's past time to find a way to get him out of town. One up a door and give someone else a chance.

Torts has no choice, he's stuck with him for now, might as well see if he's salvageable.

And Sanheim seems to play better with Risto than some of his other partners (only one he played better with last season was Seeler, and given how Seeler is playing this year, maybe Yandle was that big of an anchor).

That list of HCs doesn't inspire confidence, AV mailed it in last year, and the rest???

Charlie O’Connor said Gauthier has a little bit of Draisaitl to his game on the latest BSH radio lol
Watching the snippets of his skating, he's certainly not in the Hayes/Couts tier as a big man on skates.
He's got some "small man" moves.

A good bit or a bad bit?

A good bit.

Main point: they are not stylistically similar in any meaningful/tangible way. Charlie can’t help but show his ass when talking about prospects. Ridiculous comparisons, wonky pro projections, etc.

Can anyone tell a fellow Millman why Millman is still toiling away in the ECHL? He was a very useful/good junior player. They still very focused on “this boy needs to get bigger” type energy?

Because he looked like crap at LHV last season? 12g 0-1 1 -5. Didn't see but I'd guess he didn't do much.
And he hasn't taken over the ECHL. Was playing better last season before a so-so playoff performance.
He just may not be that good.

Other problem is York, Zamula and Ginning are playing LHD, and Millman isn't pushing any of them out of the way.
