Finished watching the Phantoms, now 5-5-1 on a 3 game win streak, or don't jump to conclusions quickly at the start of a season.
Playing without Lycksell (held out, promoted to Philly?) and Brooks (injured) the lack of speed at forward was evident.
Marody is skilled but slow, O'Reilly and Fitzgerald and Wilson are nearing the end.
Connauton looks like he's also ready for retirement.
Foerster also didn't impress me as a skater, good edge work but lacks speed, needs more offseason work - J Cates got faster after a summer working on his skating at 25, so Foerster has time - otherwise he has NHL skills, good hands, vision, passing and we know about the shot.
Desnoyers and Wisdom both looked solid, they're more than 4th line checker types, Desnoyers has a nice wrist shot which he used to score on a 2 on 1 SH goal, and good hands in traffic, and both are decent skaters. Wisdom took a stupid roughing penalty, edge good, lack of discipline bad. Middle six types who'll help on the PK as well.
Ratcliffe and Willman have regressed from last season, Ratcliffe wasn't noticeable and Willman didn't use his speed to much advantage.
Attard was a monster, not just the goal on a wicked wrister, but tough as nails, one sequence on the PK, blocks a shot, can hardly get up, gets in position to block another shot, then is able to skate down the ice to get in on a rush and get a shot off before heading to the bench. Saved a goal with a great play around the net. He'll be a Flyer come the spring.
York also had a solid game, started slow but then warmed up, though he didn't do much on the PP which looked bad, got his goal when the puck bounced out to him, nifty little move to find a shooting lane then buried a nice wrister. Starting to look like the York of last season, not spectacular, but in control and aware.
Ginning was quiet as expected, defensive defensemen shouldn't be noticeable (i.e. because it's usually due to making mistakes) but some nice exit passes from the D-zone. Drew a holding penalty in front of his net in a scrum, needs to be taught how to cheat better, NHL D-men don't grab, they cross check without extending their arms!
Wylie and Hogberg have been healthy scratches the last couple games, not a good sign going forward.
Ersson could play in the NHL right now, got beat cleanly one on a shot off the post, and once on a shot on a PP where Willman screened the shot (block it or get out of the way). But good positioning, cool under pressure, doesn't flop around, sorta of a bigger version of Hart though not quite as quick post to post.
