Damn, so you were close to being a Canucks fan instead
No no no my drunk uncle is exactly why I became a Ranger fan😂

Seriously though, I’ve posted the story before but this why I became a Rangers fan:

I’m from Vancouver, so becoming a fan of the New York Rangers is a little odd. Growing up in a huge hockey market I had been watching and playing hockey ever since I could remember, the first draft I followed was in 2002 when Rick Nash was selected first overall. He became my favorite player so I rooted for the Jackets, they were the underdog expansion team and Nash carried them alone. My mom contacted the Jackets organization as well as Nash, and was able to get them to send a bunch of signed merchandise despite the fact we lived in a whole nother country. I went to a Jackets vs Canucks game and during warmups Nash spotted me and skated over to the bench and in the area where players go to enter the tunnel he talked to me and signed my jersey.

In 2011 my mom had just beaten inflammatory breast cancer (40% 5-year survival rate now, I believe it was lower at the time) and right after beating it she got diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and was told she was going to die. She took me on a trip to New York before that happened in case I never would've got to see it with her, I had always wanted to go. It was during a huge winter storm, I believe JFK was actually closed down like a few days before we arrived because of all the snow. Walking down 5th Ave with all the snow was just the most beautiful sight, and coincidentally my hometown Canucks were in town to play the Rangers during this trip. We bought tickets last minute and went to the game, it was a 1-0 shutout for Henrik Lundqvist. I was still a Jackets fan at the time but there was this aura about MSG that this was a special place. Seeing all the history. Gave me feelings I‘d never experienced at GM Place/Rogers Arena.

I had a pretty rough upbringing; my father passed away when I was 1 year old, one of my best friends got murdered when she was 15. Some people talk about being the first in their family to go to college, I wasn’t only the first in my family to graduate high school, I was the first in my family to even GO TO high school. And I grew up in Surrey, which is the crime/gang capital of Canada and ranks top 10 in the US for crime, once had the title of “car theft capital of North America”. Hockey was always an escape for me. Both playing and watching it made me feel as if all of my problems in real life didn’t exist, so I liked cheering for a team from a different place and imagining I didn’t grow up in some of the circumstances I did. I’ve always had a strong affinity for New York and then in 2012 Rick Nash was coincidentally traded to the Rangers, which was too perfect, I instantly switched my allegiance from the Jackets to the Rangers.

Though Nash did eventually get traded to the Bruins for a short-lived tenure, I couldn’t bring myself to cheer for any team but the Rangers. The runs from 2012-2016 were such emotional rollercoasters and made me form an attachment to the Rangers that I’ve never felt for anything else. When Marty St. Louis’s mother passed away and all the Rangers went to her funeral together to support him, us coming back from those 3-1 series deficits, him scoring that goal on Mother’s Day, and the overtime winner against his hometown team.

The next year with Zuccarello’s terrifying head injury and how this team just continuously rallied around each other's hardships. How so much of this team had all the odds stacked against them, Lundqvist going from barely getting drafted in the 7th round to having a hall of fame career, Zucc going undrafted and being the little engine that could. There’s something special about this team. It also doesn’t hurt that whenever my Canuck fan family & I banter back and forth I can always rub ‘94 in their face despite the fact I wasn’t yet born at the time

What is classified as a meaningful contribution? Kakko I thought had a down game but was noticeable. Lafreniere was very involved. Had chances. Worked hard. Skated well. What is your realistic expectations on a given night? I don’t see an issue with their game.
My expectation is that they turn into players capable of putting up at least half a point per game this season on the way to becoming stars and anything less than that is going to end up being a fireable offense for multiple people in this front office and staff.

I am already done with GG. Does he even have a structure? There is no fluidity to their game. It's just wing it type of mindset
Perimeter offense where two forwards run into each other then if they do get close to the goalie they either run into a teammate or try a cross ice pass that gets tipped.

Can't even beat f***ing Georgiev....tomorrow won't be easy either.
I agree. The beginning of this season sure turned around in a hurry. Could very well be a 4 game losing streak after tomorrow. Isles always play us tough.

Shout out to MSG ice, it was in peak June form. Puck flat off the face off win rolling nicely to Trouba, but miraculously does a little perfect hop over Troubas stick and then lays nice and flat for the opposing breakaway lol, Shesty’s ef up started when the puck rolled on him, on Fox goal the puck was hopping on his stick as he brought it all the way up the ice, even on Panarin’s shootout goal the puck was rolling around and he was just able to keep the puck under control.

You do realize that is a 9- 1 loss in Colorado, right?

Shesterkin made 14 miraculous saves minimum.

29 of the Rangers 45 shots were flip jobs that Eddie Jovanski would kick to the side .

There is a massive massive talent divide there is a massive speed divide there is a massive coaching divide there is a massive difference in attack hockey mentality. There is also a massive difference in killer, instinct, and leader ship. We are nowhere near the Colorado avalanche.

Kreiders goal scoring isn't the issue for me right now. The PP has not looked great since the first few games, and thats where a lot of his goals come from. He's always been a streaky goal scorer who will score in bunches and at any point he COULD go on a tear.

The issue with him right now is he kills every play, looks disinspired, passes aren't on, turnover machine, is off on his tips, and just looks downright awful. The chances he goes on a streak to up his scoring is SIGNIFICANTLY lower when hes playing as poorly as he is, thats the issue right now.

Kakko and Laf are fine. The 2nd line was actually quite good tonight, the 1st line was putrid, aside from Kakko. Like I've mentioned multiple times, Kakko is finally figuring it out and growing, but if that line wants success he cannot be the best player on it at this point

If anyone wants a laugh the coyotes put up 6 (5+1en) tonight against that stifling Columbus team that NYR managed 1 goal against on Sunday with all their offense and skill.

I never thought he is/was as bad as people here act like he is. But "top notch"? I'm not buying that.
All you have to do is look at today's game. Both goalies made great saves, but Igor was much better with the rebounds and in control all the time (apart from is adventure which lead to the SHG). And I think the Avs had much more dangerous chances.

But behind that Avs defense Georgie probably doesn't need to be top notch. Just be above average, and so far he has been exactly that.

Hate to bring this up but our pp wasnt very good when Strome was out last year either. I'm not sure if replacing Trochek with someone else might help but it isn't having as much success as last year, maybe moving Laf in that spot could change its look a bit

The funny thing is if they won the skills competition everyone here would be happy that we came back in the 3rd to win against the defending champs. That said the skills competition was a disgrace. There's no way any NHL team should put 1 goal in 4 attempts against Georgiev, particularly one with our skill. Mika's "attempt" is still shocking to me.

Trocheck was 15-4 on faceoffs tonight. 78.9%. HOW IN THE f*** DO YOU NOT PUT HIM OUT THERE FOR THE PP IN OT?!?!?!? That is wildly negligible by Gallant. Wild. And what happens? Zibanejad loses multiple draws leading to virtually no zone time for a 4-on-3 PP. I am a Gallant guy but that is so so bad.
Literally anyone else on the team should have been out there over Kreider in OT. Ok maybe not Reaves.

To me its clear the missing piece isn't Strome though. Trochecks speed on entry as an option if he gets puck is key. He is clearly a better shooting option in bumper than Strome, which was needed. His puck retriveal in battles and loose pucks in Ozone to keep plays alive is also extremely welcome.

All powerplays go through droughts and stuff, and maybe we are spoiled with how good it was early this year and late last year. But a PP with that much talent thats just about given the full 2 if they want it should not be struggling as much as they are. Not exactly sure the issue, can't put a finger on it, but when our PP is struggling, its similar to Zibby an Kreids, it doesn't just struggle, its actually a putrid momentum killing net negative

Seriously where are kakko and Lafreniere? They’re playing top 6 mins. Where is the production. The excuses are gone

The shootout attempts were no better than what jimmy vesey would have given you

1st and 2nd overall. Go make some plays. Game after game goose eggs
When Chytil comes back, the Kid Line needs to be put back together faster than Voltron
