Also talk about terrible defensive positioning by the Caps on Geno's 1st goal... 3 dudes just following the puck

I don’t think anyone hated it. It’s just Rusty does better (seems to do better) with Geno.

A lot of people seem to think it's a terrible combination. And to be fair I do think he looks generally better overall with Sid. But Raks is a pretty consistent player no matter where you put him.

Rust has had his good stretches with Malkin. But he's had just as many frustrating ones IMO. As someone who has ripped on Rust a bunch the last year or so I gotta give him his due early on this year, though. He looks very energetic. More like "vintage" Rust.

No doubt. But to be fair that was a hell of a play by EK to keep the puck alive and a ridiculous dish to Malkin from Raks. Caught them way off balance... happened fast.

I don't watch and we win eh? I'll take it.

Was it a good performance or just us beating another geriatric team?

The Penguins looked really flat the first period but picked it up the last two frames. I don't know that I saw them play so much a super structured and complete game as I saw them cash in on their powerplay and Sid/Geno did Sid/Geno stuff. With a very hefty helping of "boy do the Capitals look like they suck."

But hey whatever. Fun game. Always nice beating those creeps.

EK65 had a huge impact today. Be curious if that continues.

For sure. Didn't mean to slight him. Like I said he isn't piling the points yet but he's been suuuuuuuuper slick out there. He's definitely one of my favorite things to watch in the early going.

Wasn’t saying you were. Just was impressed with his game I caught tonight. The PP movement from him especially.

They have him in a weird spot at times on the top unit but whatever it's Toddddddddddd so I'll take what I can get. I might be overselling it but his presence alone seems to be getting everyone to move around a lot more, too. They certainly appear to be much more active on the man advantage.

He didn't get an assist on it but his keep (on his backhand no less) on Crosby's second goal was an example of something not a ton of players can do. Guy can friggin fly, man.

To me, this was a typical Ovi game, except that he did not score. Lots of standing around and unstructured play. He is gonna get his goals. He always does. But man, his game is so aimless.
Do you remember the days when you were worried every time he was on the ice? That stopped for me outside of the PP a few years ago. He just floats and tries to throw some hits and waits fora one-timer.

Against the Hawks, PP1 had little movement. We saw EK go from the point, to left half wall. Geno rotated to the point.

Tonight, there was tons of movement where we saw EK at the point, left half wall and slot. Geno at both half walls, slot and point. Sid down low, both half walls, slot and point. That kind of movement needs to keep happening and will throw the PK into a frenzy.

Will Crosby hit 1800 points and finish top 5? Assuming he doesn’t get hurt and gets 75 points a season average the next 4 years he does it.

Went to the game tonight. Caps dominated the final 10 minutes of the first and it looked pretty dire at intermission. From there the Pens completely dominated.

Karlsson was by far the most talented player on the ice in a game with Crosby, Ovi, Malkin, Backstrom, Letang, Carlson… and it’s not even close. He is on a complete different level to the point where I almost feel bad. Dude should be on a league favorite.

Crosby isn’t a guy that’s going to carry the mail anymore but he was completely dominant in the half court.

Rakell is downright awesome. Smith is really anticipatory but overall not a guy that jumps off the page talent wise.

If I were Sully I’d completely flip the wings and go with Smith-Sid-Rakell and the Jake-Geno-Rust.

Eller looked fantastic. O’Connor is so hard not to like, kid worked his tail off all night.

Harkins is very obviously just a guy, idk how much longer he should get to do anything. Doesn’t really look like an NHL player amongst NHL players.

Graves loves to look great and then be a sketchball around his own net when he’s taking care of a scoring chance from the opposition.

Really liked Ruh tonight. Shut down some otherwise dangerous entries.

Usually I feel like I have a good read on the Pens live; and this year my take is that idk if we’re really a contender.

This was a huge tactical adjustment for the second period.

The Pens dominated the Caps 41-23 in 5-on-5 shot attempts in the final two periods after trailing 18-16 in attempts after one. Completely changed the tone of the game.

Unfortunately the third and fourth lines, as a whole, did not sustain pressure and largely got caved in. There were some obvious positive moments, especially early in the second period.

But DOC-Eller-Harkins gave up almost twice as many shot attempts as they attempted and gave up six scoring chances while generating none.

Nieto-Acciari-Carter was even worse, allowing 13 shot attempts while generating just three and giving up five scoring chances while generating none.

So that's 11 scoring chances against and 0 scoring chances for from the bottom six.

Eller and Acciari are playing well. Harkins needs to be better, while simply having a pulse and avoiding mistakes isn't enough for O'Connor. Carter is a black hole. And I've been disappointed in Nieto, who has taken a penalty in each game and has been shaky 5-on-5 (though he's made a couple nice plays on the PK).

This team was always going to have games where the stars just carry the day. There will also be moments when Jarry shines.

But that will not be sustainable unless the bottom six improves. They don't have to score a ton - just score to their career norms and balance out possession more.

I don't think we gave up a shot the final 13 plus mins.
how many shots on goal did the Caps earn in their PPs? Not many, that's for sure. We shut them down quite nicely, I think.

Quite possibly the easiest shutout of Jars career, ironic considering the amazing Ovi played.. ;-)

The Pens really do hate me. Play like shit when I watch them versus the Hawks, shit all over the Caps in the Caps' home opener when I don't.

I dunno... That's gonna be a steeeep average to keep up
Anyone else pissed off they now have ads in the away jerseys? It pisses me off royally still there are ads on the jerseys.
Eh. I just think that they should mandate any on uniform branding to have to change to team colors....a big bright blue square on a pens uniform looks like mega crap, for exemple.. Make whatever is on there change colors or go pound sand
