Reilly Smith really deserved that goal, had like 3-5 really good chances between game 1 and game 2. That power move in front of the net was awesome. This guy can be a huge piece of our offense if he continues to bring that.

Geno with the hyper-dangle attempt really set the tone for today's game. He distinctly went into determined Geno mode after that and got his first goal of the season. Not surprising - Geno has owned the Caps his whole career. Then he brought out his patented mega slapshot, hit the post. Then finally the backcheck of the year so far on the Smith pass. Too bad this was an away game - would have loved to see the STHs comments on this 10/10 performance from our HOF 2C.

That Rakell pass to Geno was so sick. I really like Rakell and Smith on the wings together.

Cool to see EK65 go coast-to-coast and he looks quick and sharp on PP1. With so much talent touching the puck someone is always bound to be robbed of an assist. Glad that Karlsson at least picked up a point.

Here's the thing though. Caps suck balls. Now we need to bring it against actual teams.

Quite possibly the easiest shutout of Jars career, ironic considering the amazing Ovi played.. ;-)
Precisely the reason I'm not giving him kudos. Jarry still friggin sucks dude. Though hopefully the shutout gives him some mojo for the games ahead. But with Jarry the concern has never been this time of year, more about March onwards. Pens need to collect some points now while they can.

He has 11 SOG in two games. Malkin has 10.

Obviously that kind of torrid pace can't keep up but they seem to be finding each other a lot.
The quality of chances is what I'm happiest with. Very encouraging moving forward. Because unlike most of our team, Smith shoots pretty hard and picks spots wisely.
The goalies have been doing a great job against him so far is all.

Do you remember the days when you were worried every time he was on the ice? That stopped for me outside of the PP a few years ago. He just floats and tries to throw some hits and waits fora one-timer.
Every time he was on the ice, yea. They’d get possession and he’d start chugging down the ice, get the puck and fly to a shooting position and try that curl and drag shot. Then on the PP he’d take a million shots that we would just let happen.

He’s a shell. Hell, he’ll probably still score 35+ this year, but that’s mainly from his shot still being elite and getting fed the puck over and over.

2 goals for Sid, 4 points for Geno. You love to see it.

And despite the rivalry having peaked long ago...I'll never get sick of seeing videos of Pens fans gloating on the steps after beating the Caps in DC.

Great game, should give the team a good confidence boost, and hopefully they keep building chemistry. Geno's line stood out all night, really dominant showing from them.
The fourth line is growing on me, both Acciari and Nieto seem to be going balls to the walls, hitting, winning board battles and blocking shots.
Can't wait to see what this team is like, if the get to build chemistry uniterupted for a while with out injury, once they get EK65 fully incorporated they could be scary.
