It's time for Peyton to work on his game every night in all situations in Rochester. This rotation is not serving him.
Im still really enticed by this kid. He's incredibly agile and quick, and has a lot of tenacity to his game. I still have faith he'll become a good player in this league. Just has to simplify his game a bit.

So, I agree. Jost is looking the part of a good 4th line center. Hino is the 13th forward. Asplund should never be scratched again. Quinn is cementing himself in the lineup. Krebs works on refining his game in the minors for a couple of months.

Seems like a good plan to me, and Krebs looks to have the attitude to take it in stride.

Im hoping Granato was only revolving those who sit to find the strongest roster going forward, and I think he may have found it BUT- I will say- I wont throw Granato to the wolves if he puts Krebs between Girgs and Okoposo for the foreseeable future. Krebs played his best hockey between them, and they make life A LOT easier for a young center.

He's improved his defensive game a bit by not giving up the terrible backhand turnovers to nowhere. He had a few games where he was getting inside but not nearly enough. And not for nothing, but the Amerks could use a creative play driver at center since A) Malone is unable to play in back-to-backs when he can play at all and B) they don't have enough centers to play actual centers at center right now.

Go dominate at the AHL level for a few months, sort his game out, and then come back up.

Since June I've been saying Krebs should be in Rochester, stopped caring a month ago. But I do hope he is a better person now, there are other ways to improve than mere hockiness. Maybe there are other parts of his humanity that are being developed in Buffalo and there's nothing wrong with that.

His trajectory is starting to get a bit concerning. It seems clear to everyone else that he needs to be in Rochester right now. I could be wrong and it’s just a complete hunch and speculative based on nothing more than a few clips and interviews, but I feel Adams and Granato know he’s the type of person that wouldn’t take the demotion well, which if true is a big concern in itself.

Gotta make the tough decisions now though.

Can you quote or direct us to those instances? I'm very much interested.

I’m not saying he’s a bad kid or personality, in fact I think his type is infectious when things are rolling well. I’m not gonna pick apart every interview or clip the kid has, it was just a minor observation that there’s a chance he might be the type to take a demotion extra hard. Full disclosure not a licensed psychologist.

Would you add Johnson and your ‘23 1st?

I don't think he's worth a 2nd, top 10 1st and Krebs.

Krebs is worth something around a late 1st. If a team think's they can sign Johnson he's worth a mid-late 1st, if they can't he's worth a late 2nd.

I don't think so, an unprotected '24 maybe, but a top 10 '23 should be a non-starter if there are non-trivial adds.
It’s an interesting development that Buffalo is now in the mix. I imagine the primary target for Chychrun is a 2023 1st. The odds of the pick ending up a 2024 1st are just too great if there are Top 10 conditions placed on it.

I get why Buffalo would want Top 10 protection. But I suspect Arizona would rather get an unprotected pick from a team like Toronto or St Louis, or a Top 2 (lottery) protected pick from LA or Edmonton.

Columbus is another team that’s mentioned quite a bit that I have the same confusion about.

If there was some way to guarantee the pick was outside the top 10 but still in 2023, this would make sense. Especially if there’s a kid like Krebs added, who’s lost in the shuffle. And a kid like Johnson or Portillo who may not be signing anyhow.

No way. Top 15 protection. It's a deep draft and we don't want to give up a hypothetical shot at Bedard.

The 2014 1st rounder you'd likely get is still probably better than any contender you'd ship him to (and retaining).
Arizona won’t need to retain. There are plenty of short term dumps and LTIR contracts to take back out there. Especially now that we’re prorated down to 3.45 on Chychrun for this season.

I don’t think Arizona would be interested in passing up a 2023 pick in a Chychrun deal, to be honest. The odds of Buffalo picking before 16th are too great for that condition. Better to get lighter protection for no protection from a team higher in the standings.

Chychrun has been playing out of his mind since his return. Man on fire. I’m sure pro scouts and GMs are drooling. Of course, he won’t fetch as much as he otherwise would’ve if he had a healthier track record and/or didn’t have that one poor season last year. It was his first season in which he didn’t make tremendous progress and actually had a bad year. He seems to have put it behind him now. Small sample, of course.

The closest thing to that would be using Savoie as a base for the trade. Something like Savoie + Johnson.

That's a top 10 pick and a mid 1st. Not going to be that unless Columbus completely loses their minds and trades off a top 5 (which I don't see as remotely likely). They can't even really trade Sillinger because they're light at center.

I’d take that deal. I watched a ton of the Winnipeg ICE last season and I really like Savoie a lot. I had Geekie ranked 11th overall but I had Savoie ranked earlier. Savoie and Guenther grew up together and played AAA together. Obviously he’s got the Geekie connection, too. Seems like a good fit.
