Not sure either are a fit but the Medina to Petes rumours won’t go away… Downey not so sure he’s an upgrade on Sztuska.
Its a fit as long as they are willing to move on from him at the deadline and get a better overage skater if simspon shows hes the guy

I think that Simpson has proved that he is he guy but a contending team needs another quality goaltender to share the load and be there when required. Slumps, injuries, sickness etc. do happen.

This may come across as trolling because I'm a Gens fan, but I'm genuinely asking this. How has he proven to you that he's the guy? He has a career .889 save % in the OHL and a 20-22-4 record. You're putting that much stock in 3 pre-season games where the Gens didn't have Ritchie/Harrison/Gagnier and the other 2 games were both against Kingston who almost every single guesser in the "predictions" thread has finishing dead last?

I ask this because if Ben Gaudreau has a horrible October+November and had a .880 save % after it, not many Sarnia fans would be worried and saying they need to get someone else, because they know he's the guy. But if Simpson was .880 after 2 months, you'd still be 100% confident that he's it?

I get Petes fans being excited to see if he can be the guy behind what should be a top team but am interested to see him already being anointed it after 2.5 pre-season games

Simpson hasn't proved anything till he's consistently putting up good numbers he hasn't done any of that yet .

Time will tell if I'm wrong ille eat shit but who in the world would trust sztuska coming and playing the back end of a back to back .

Simpson was pretty good in the 2nd half of last season, I think the excitement comes from that, much more than from anything in the preseason.

Once the Petes FINALLY let him run with the job, he posted a .904 SV% from January on. (for context, Leaver was .909 in that same span).

If you parse it to to Februrary - April, Simpson was .907, to Leaver's .902

The cause for concern is that it didn't carry into the playoffs but obviously the Petes were overmatched/shorthanded most of that series, which you would hope wouldn't be the case this season.

We get it, you can stop dumping on Sztuska.

5 games vs. Oshawa in the 2nd half of last season by Michael Simpson:

Jan 29 - 29/31, Petes win 5-2, Simpson 3rd star
Jan 30 - 30/34, Gens win 4-3
Feb 24 - 40/41, Petes win 3-1, Simpson 1st star
Mar 5 - 35/37, Petes win 6-2, Simpson 2nd star
Mar 18 - 25/26, Petes win 3-1

It definitely does come across as trolling to think the Petes fans excitement for Simpson is based on 3 preseason games, when in games you watched with him in the 2nd half, he was 4-1, with a 1.80 GAA and a ,941 save percentage.

First of all, I guess welcome back after your extended hiatus…? Sorry to see I already have you angry and replying to your own posts 15 minutes later trying to shit on me, but it’s a genuine question and something that really could go either way.

But to answer the 2nd post in a row you did, the Gens weren’t good last year lol. If your reasoning for thinking he’s good is he beat a bad team that really struggled to score in the 2nd half last year, that seems weird. But sure, call me trolling I guess. Now do the games against Hamilton. A team who was good that could actually score…

Has anyone heard if Guryev, Stillman and Avon are back?
Petes Updates on Twitter said all three of those Petes will not be playing and Lardis probably not.

As for Simpson, not sure why there's any doubt about him. Last year he was solid and rarely let in a weak goal, saved our hides a lot.

I got the impression from last night's Examiner article that Lardis would be in. It had extensive interviews with him and didn't say anything about him being out. It did mention Purdeller and Lewis are injured and won't be in the lineup.

Pros:
- Petes win!
- Lardis is going to score a lot of goals
- The Petes were 44-17 on faceoffs, that's obscene
- McCoy was really good at both ends.
- Simpson was solid and can't really be faulted on any of the goals (he got beat but he got beat by great/wide open shots and a bad bounce).
- Lockhart had 3 assists, despite IMO a pretty uneven game.

Other stuff:
- PP needs some work (Stillman/Avon will help)
- I'm not sure what the ideal D pairings are. I really like McCoy/Zanetti pairing because I think McCoy sees the game really well, reads the play, knows where to be etc... and Zanetti... does not, but has all the natural talent in the world, so having someone with him who has that head for the game works well. On the flipside, at one point we saw a Guo/Zanetti pairing, which makes zero sense to me because they both have the same strengths and short comings.
- The Mayer/Smith pairing wasn't really working tonight IMO but we know from last season it will.
- Spearing missed the 3rd, quite a run he's been on injury wise.
- It was just a really sloppy performance. Erie had the Petes on the ropes at 4-2 but they sat back and played prevent defense and let the Petes back into it and they took advantage.

When the Petes get Stillman and Avon back they will have two very strong scoring lines. Guryev will round out a pretty solid d core too. With overage spots to fill this team can be scary deep.

Great to get the win, showed character to do so BUT man, the Petes did not look that good last night. I've been to two games (last night and the pre-season against Sudbury) and in both games the Petes were out-worked. Obviously it's very early but this team needs to get hungrier and I worry about conditioning as well. Our d-zone play allows too many opportunities for the other team. But a gut-check win like that we will take. McCoy has taken a step up this year, looked very impressive.
