There seems to be a lack of top quality d man trade candidates this year. Especially now with Kryou off the board, London leading the west, depending on the Brandt Clarke situation, there aren’t many top d candidates. Yes there are some decent OA options, but when it comes to available ‘03’s the list is quite thin
Let's not forget we need an experienced goalie. The team can load up on quality forwards and defence but Simpson needs a quality backup and the two rookies aren't there yet.

This is why part of me wants Shane Wright not to get sent back to the OHL so the Petes can actually address a whole slew of needs and spread the assets out. Time will tell

Great theory......there just doesn't seem to be a lot of available experienced goalies though.
Do you want to use up an OA spot on the BUG?
The Petes are behind NB on paper as is; they need a significant addition to fill their last OA spot to at least be in the conversation with NB and Ottawa post deadline.

The sellers and their available players are shrinking quickly!

Strengthening the Petes’ D unit is crucial between now and the deadline.

If the Petes can trade Spearing (leaving them 2 open OA spots) and add: two RHD
+ 1 forward, I think this would put them in the best spot.

This can only happen if Oke doesn't trade for Wright. The problem for Oke is that he'd be crazy not to wait and see what Wright will cost him before deciding his plan of attack. Oke may be the only Canadian cheering against them at the WJC so they go out early and he can get on with making trades.

Here is a list of OA possibilities and 03 possibilities on D. I included a couple 03s from Sudbury because I’m not sure what their plan will be at the deadline.

White (HAM) (RD) (OA) – best offensive OA Dman still available
Jesus (NIA) (RD) (OA) – RH with some offensive upside
Keane (NIA) (RD) (OA) – RH with some offensive upside
Roger (KGN) (RD) (OA) – RH with a defensive focus
Murray (GUE) (LD) (OA) – would be a nice upgrade on Spearing

Mintyukov (SAG) (LD) (03) - $ too much + improving RW Purdeller would go
Holmes (SBY) (LD) (03) – solid but LH and Wolves may have OA plans for him
Toure (SBY) (RD) (03) - haven't seen him play enough, but like his size and RH

Here are the OA forwards and 03/04 forwards who could be targets.

Morrison (HAM)(C)(OA) – better value than Wright IMO
Hayes (HAM)(RW)(OA) – would be a great add for Petes
Watson (SOO)(RW)(OA) - PBO connection with skill
Duarte (SOO)(RW)(OA) – seems like a player built for playoffs

Wright (KGN)(C)(04) – cost would limit Oke’s ability to strengthen D unit enough
Winterton (HAM)(RW)(03) – how will he be after being out with injury this long
Zhilkin (GUE)(C)(03) – may be a decent consolation prize at deadline
Savard (SOO)(LW)(03) – PBO connection with size, but likely OA in Soo next yr.
McCallum (SBY)(RW)(03) – nice combo of grit and skill but he’s played better lately in Sudbury so there may be no interest in trading

There are two good reasons to trade for Wright if sent back to the OHL imo. Othmann-Wright is irresistible; and, the Petes forward group would be so good that it could make up for not having a Clarke, DelMastro, Mintyukov, Nelson, Matier, or a presence like Guryev.
The only real answer for Othmann-Wright imo would be DelMastro or Mintyukov with Clarke or Nelson or Matier.
Do Petes’ fans that have watched most of the games since Guryev was traded agree that Mayer, Zanetti, & Smith are significantly better LD than RD? If not trading for Wright, leave what is probably the 2nd best forward group in the OHL alone, and just look for RD.
Leskovar, Sztuska, and a large mix of 2-6 picks might get Cato, Keane or Jesus, and Rosenzweig.

I agree but I just don’t see that as a top priority for the Petes. Stuzska has played well enough this year that they probably believe what they have is fine. Who is even available that would be a upgrade?

peterborough officially has the following

2023 - 3rd
2024 - nothing round 2-4
2025 - 2 2nds and a 3rd, conditional 4th that is hamiltons right now
2026 - 4th
Hey OHL4Life, I'm not questioning your access to OHL info because you have offered many great insights all over team threads.

If you are able to, can you determine who owns the picks highlighted from the 3 trades below because I am so confused especially by the conditional picks!

Prior to the 2022 OHL entry draft (Apr. 27), the Petes traded BAR 2nd 2022 to Flint for FLNT 3rd 2023 and HAM 2nd 2024

At last year's deadline the Petes traded Mason McTavish to Hamilton for
Jonathan Melee, Alex Pharand
NB 2 2022
SAR 2 2022
KIT 3 2023
SAR 3 2023
HAM 3 2024
HAM 4 2025*

In December 2018, Guelph traded Merkley to the Petes for
Pavel Gogolev
PBO compensatory 2nd 2019
WSR 3 2021
PBO 4 2022 (The Petes used this pick so this condition wasn't meant.
Was this condition that Merkley played a game for the Petes in the 2019-2020 season?)
PBO 2 2023 (conditional.......same conditions as above?)
PBO 3 2024 (conditional.......same conditions as above?)

OHL4Life......do you have knowledge of conditions on trades that have been made?
That would be hella helpful!

These two draft cupboards are significantly different.....
2023 – 3rd
2024 - 5th
2025 - 2nd, 2nd, 3rd
2026 - 4th, 5th

OR

2023 – 2nd, 3rd, 3rd
2024 - 3rd , 5th
2025 - 2nd, 2nd, 3rd
2026 - 4th, 5th

How are we supposed to post trade ideas for Oke to read if we don't have up-to-date info?!

flints 3rd belongs to peterborough, its the only 3rd they have this year.

Peterboroughs 2nd is in owen sound via guelph

peterboroughs 3rd in 2024 is in guelph.

Just curious why there is no interest in Arcuri or Haché? Arcuri got 19 points in 11 playoff games last year and was leading the playoffs in scoring when the Fronts went out (also good size and leads the league in goals this year). Haché is a big, physical, defensive Dman.

Petes could use Hache but they lack a good right handed dman right now

The Soo
I heard Watson could be headed to the Petes at the deadline. Would this make sense to the Petes? Who or what do you think could be headed the other way?

Yes and no the Petes already have a lot of guys under 6ft some size would be ideal. If they are getting him then it would make sense to move Spearing for a right handed OA dman

im Just telling you what the league has, if you have an issue with it, go ask them .

edit: i looked it up, one of the conditions on the suzuki trade had a 3rd in 2022 turn into a 2nd in 2023. im guessing thats where this comes. once guelph officially got the pick, it was transfered to owen sound.

This team plays better without Othmann
I know all the hockey minds will descend upon me saying “Othmann is the most talented player etc etc “

But this team plays better without him

Robertson certainly seems to play better, probably a little to do with getting extra TOI without Othmann.

Sounds like a strong possibility since they traded for Sirizzotti today.

I think there are three different options that Oke could choose from to add to the Petes for the rest of the season.

Option #1 : The Petes end up trading for Wright and an OA RH Dman, this will cost them JVV ++ and the lineup might look like this:

Othmann(L)(03) – Wright (R)(04) – Stillman (R)(03)
Avon (L)(03) – Robertson (R)(03) – Lockhart (R)(03)
Lardis (L)(05) – Panwar (L)(OA) – Dezoete (L)(04)
Melee (L)(04) – Dubois (R)(03) – Purdeller (R)(03)

Mayer (L)(03) – Jesus(R)(OA)
Smith (L)(04) – Zanetti (L)(03)
Spearing (L)(OA) – McCoy (R)(04)

What if the Petes decide to upgrade on Spearing and target cheaper “value” guys. They could add two RH Dmen and 1 forward……… and 2 of these 3 would be OAs.

The cost would vary in these situations and a player may have to be included in the deals along with Spearing depending on the level of the additions. IMO it would be the best case scenario for the Petes to upgrade Spearing while balancing the LH/RH on the D unit by adding 2 RH Dmen.

Option #2 : add two RH OA Dmen and one 03 forward
  • two of these RH OA Dmen
    (White, Jesus, Keane, Roger, Thompson)
  • and one of these 03 forwards
(Winterton RW, Savard LW, Zhilkin C, McCallum RW, DelBelBelluz C)
Possible lineup for this option.

Othmann(L)(03) – Panwar (L)(OA) – Stillman (R)(03)
Avon (L)(03) – Robertson (R)(03) – Lockhart (R)(03)
Lardis (L)(05) – Dubois (R)(03) – McCallum (R)(03)
Dezoete (L)(04) – Melee (L)(04) – Purdeller (R)(03)

Mayer (L)(03) – Roger (R)(OA)
Zanetti (L)(03) – Jesus(R)(OA)
Smith (L)(04) – McCoy (R)(04)

Option #3 : add a RH OA Dmen, an 03 Dman and an OA forward
  • one of these RH OA Dmen
    (White, Jesus, Keane, Roger, Thompson)
  • one of these 03 RH Dmen
    (Touré, Gil-Shane, Sharpe, Cato, Sedley)
  • and one of these OA forwards
(Morrison C, Hayes RW, Duarte RW, Watson RW, Cohen C, Hardie LW, Uberti RW, DeGrazia LW)

Possible lineup for this option.

Othmann(L)(03) – Morrison (R)(OA) – Lockhart (R)(03)
Avon (L)(03) – Robertson (R)(03) – Purdeller (R)(03)
Lardis (L)(05) – Dubois (R)(03) – Stillman (R)(03)
Melee (L)(04) – Panwar (L)(OA) – Dezoete (L)(04)

Mayer (L)(03) – McCoy (R)(04)
Zanetti (L)(03) – Touré(R)(03)
Smith (L)(04) – Jesus(R)(OA)

Tbh.....for my money I'd rather trade
Spearing, JVV + picks to Hamilton for Morrison & White
then trade picks for Touré, Sharpe or Cato
