Peterborough Petes 2022-23 Season Thread

Petes are 3-6 since Othmann arrived. Maybe it’s a good thing he is leaving for WJ Camp. Character means something so sone of these 19 year olds better start owning the room and get them playing like a team. Doesn’t exist today

You can bring in guys like that but you need a coach who can handle them and get them to play a team game. The problem is for some reason Mike Oke thinks he has a coach who can do that but keeps getting hit over the head with the fact that he doesn't, yet doesn't learn from it. It appears Dave Cameron thought Wilson sent out Leskovar to try to hurt someone on the last shift. Based on the shift Leskovar had (takes a swing at the goalie then launches into LaForme's head against the boards at the buzzer) it might be hard to argue that

Well if coaching is even somewhat to blame for the Petes' recent slump, then that's a good thing. It's a variable that can be played with either by 1) the coaches going back to the drawing board on their systems or 2) by changing the coaching staff themselves. If we go with #1, why not take a look at the physical fitness of the players or their attitudes? Why are we not working hard as other teams? How about entering the zone without the dump and chase? What about telling the defense to stop backing into their own zone so far when other teams enter the zone with the puck?

Good news from the last two games - that Dubois, Melee, Dezoete line looked good and Panwar continues to play well.

This team is a mess, but my biggest concern is why the Officials in this league target the Petes non stop? Is it Because Jay McKee complained last year the Petes were too rough??? The Officials just brutalized the Petes from that point on! Hamilton, Reid and Lewis these 3 officials have targeted the Petes for years? They miss way too many calls, they also dont call blatant penalties feet in front of them? Every time we play in Ottawa in the last few years we are again targeted by these garbage referees!!I have been a season ticket holder for years, if the refereeing doesnt improve im finished with OHL . Disgusting to witness

Petes will be down 7 players after another farce of an officiated game by Reid joke OHL we should just put a referees sweater on opposition bench? Also Ottawa coach into a yelling match with Otthman? No suspension for Ottawas Coach????

Did you see the Flint game where Smith on Petes manhandled Kuzmin in offensive zone and threw him head first onto the ice and Flint fwd came in to defend. And refs gave 2 and 2. absolutely agree. As much as the reffing has been poor quality, it is all on us. Unacceptable play from the Petes due in part to the large inability to adjust and respond from Wilson and the rest of the coaching staff.

Petes did it to themselves yesterday let’s not blame the referees. Mayer hit to the head that was not needed. Othmann and Lockhart jumping guys for no reason.

Andrew Verner or Derrick Walser cannot be the head coach because yes nothing will change. If Rob is fired it has to be a strategic two step plan from Mike Oke where he has another coach identified and essentially lined up ready to go. Would mean being on the phones right now figuring options out because we cannot just afford to fire rob and figure it out from there. Someone relatively big has to be coming in and whatever happens, the assistant coaches CANNOT be head coach.

Doubtful it happens. Petes are cheap and anyone coming in that’s a big name will want security and money. They did it before with Verner that’s why I can see it happening again

If Andrew Verner takes over again then I'm done watching lol. I'd much rather Rob stay and that being said, i'm sure they will be good again in the second half. If this offence clicks, watch out.

I still have faith in Rob Wilson -I am still a big fan -crazy I know.

Having seen the teams he has built and coached in previous years -I still support and believe in him.

I understand the frustration and people wanting him fired. He has basically been given a Ferrari and he is driving like a golf cart.

I think you just need to look at where the gaps are. Are the gaps personnel based or performance based? If they are performance based then is this coach capable of addressing that or not? If not, find the right coach that can.

The formula in the OHL is simple. Develop the players individually from a skill perspective and make sure they can be inserted into the system the team puts in place. If the players are unable or unwilling to play the system put in place then the GM needs to either change the system by replacing the coach or change the players for ones that can work within the system.

You can’t shove a square peg into a round hole.

This clown show never makes that type of decision? Mike Oke hockey lol Have said for two years now Wilson no discipline for just stupid stupid penalties! And last year they couldnt figure out who was our best goalie? Poor trades, poor drafting but when you make a mistake on a pick if you dont recognize it early your stuck with player for 4 years? As a GM or coach today you have to assess your players constantly and always look to improve your team?

Players are wanting to come here instead of asking for trades. Players are happy.

Later round draft picks are turning into quality OHL players.

We do well in trades instead of getting horribly fleeced every time like we used to.

We’ve had a mix of competitive teams instead of constantly finishing 8-10.

What more do you want in a GM? Obviously we aren’t a contender every year but compared to the Reid years or some other teams, Oke has done a fine job.

Non first round picks are turning out to be productive players when that was never the case in the past.

We’ve been in the winning end of most trades when we used to get fleeced on a regular basis.

Oke has come into his own the past few years and has grown on me. Im quite content with him and more than happy with the teams he has built and the talent on this years team especially. Oke and Wilson have changed the culture tremendously and as section7fan said players want to come here now. Behind the scenes changes to a lounge and kitchen in the old weight room as well a full on video room and more has really helped to transform the Petes organization as a whole. Petes starting to look respected again... finally. Just gotta win

Oke has a roster planned and his coach for that team. I think everything will be just fine by the end of trade deadline and the roster construction is complete.

Maybe excellent if Wright is back in the OHL and chooses the Petes.

The Petes had a #1 line in Avon-Robertson-Lockhart. Adding The #1 LW upset chemistry a bit. Easy enough fix is add to make a super line in addition to #1 line.

I hope Peterborough does get Wright and Roger. It will likely motivate Ottawa to do more. It will likley lessen the cost for Morrison. It would also leave a couple other impact players on the board because the Petes won’t have the assets to do anything else.

Win for Petes and potential win for Ottawa. I’d love to see a Petes v Ottawa Conference Final with Wright on The Petes. Would be an entertaining series. And if James Boyd doesn’t improve the team much then we have loads of time to bitch about it all summer!

I don’t understand your point. I’d like to see the Petes improve and it would make for a great series if we meet. Additionally, if the Petes were to do it, it woudl motivate Boyd to maybe stretch beyond his comfort level for trades. I want to see if he is capable of doing so.

The Pandemic shut down season the 67’s were comfortably in first place and he made no deadline deals to improve his team and the previous season he only added the two OA’s to fill his OA slots. I’d like to see if he’s got more in him than “I like my team.”

Speaking about the 2019-2020 season, I was surprised that the 67's did not end up making any move of significance at the deadline. Even after the Petes acquired Akil Thomas, Boyd still didn't really do anything. As a Petes fan, I would not be complaining if that happened again lol

You guys sure are confident in a Ottawa verse Peterborough final. Not too sure North Bay and Mississauga will be pushovers
