What about Rob Wilson... gotta be capitalizing with this much talent
Yeah that crosses my mind. The coaching has to take some of the blame for sure. As for who to "cut" on defense, I've heard a few say here that Zanetti is underrated and I tend to go that way myself. . As for McCoy and the rest, this is a good defensive group and again I look at the coaching. We have to be able to freeze out other teams in our end. This team bottom line needs to get hungry. They look like they're just going through the motions maybe too system-heavy and not enough letting the boys play.

He is not physical defensively but he is an exceptional skater.
Hamilton had only 5 Dmen dressed in their game vs Missy tonight and White wasn't on the ice the last 3 minutes as the Bulldogs were protecting a 3-2 lead.

If they acquire White, is this group strong enough defensively?

Mayer - McCoy
Smith - White
Spearing - Zanetti

The Petes really don’t need a D for the PP imo, so I think the Petes should be looking for a good enough shut down D with some toughness. If a Mailloux is unavailable, Roger would be cost effective. Maybe Schmidt if the rangers sell. Maybe Smith & Leskovar & picks can get Cato & Keane/Jesus.

The 67s and Petes both have an open OA spot available. OMG posted this comment on the Ottawa thread talking about their OA options…..

If the bidding gets too high on Morrison, then maybe they move to White or Hayes, both on Hamilton. Oshawa has Moore, Butler and Gagnier. Sudbury has Degrazia. Sault has Duart and Watson. Niagara has Keene and Jesus. Kitchener has Sherpa and Valade. I mean, there are loads of potential OA’s out there for teams to shift to if the prices get silly high. And a lot of the teams out there looking at OAs don’t have the type of trade assets at their disposal to overpay for an OA.

IMO when I look at that list I think it’s a must that the Petes upgrade on Spearing. There are enough decent options that should be available at a reasonable price for a half season.

Time will tell

Btw Othmann, Stillman?, Robertson? will be heading off to Canada’s camp next week as well as Zanetti to Switzerland’s camp and Purdeller to Italy’s camp.

The roster will be quite a bit weaker for games heading into Xmas break:

Kitchener
London
Sarnia
Hamilton
Kingston

We definitely dont want 2 of the main defense from the biggest defensive dumpster fire in the league. Whiet is the guy if your going OA d

Unless adding two RD, I don’t know why the Petes would pay up for a RD that Hamilton does not use late or on PK.

Something else to consider -we might just be a “middle of the pack” team now.

At the beginning of the year I was thrilled with our team. I seriously thought we were going to go all the way this year. Everyone around town was talking about how we were a contender-

Now however -I think we really have to take a hard look at our team-are we even a contender anymore?

We are trading away wheeling and dealing but for what ? We are really gutting our future -it’s possible we are losing more than we are gaining -we need a crystal ball!

Should we consider hanging onto the assets we have left and think of our future years

or maybe we are a middle team that could be the Cinderella come the playoffs?

This is definitely not the exciting team that started the year

It’s a good team or a contender that hasn’t found it’s mojo yet. The talent is there but they need someone to put it all together.

The same thing happened in 2019/20. All the talent but underachievement. I know the players love Wilson but maybe that’s where issues could be?

You think the issue could be Wilson?

Interesting point to ponder-I have been a big Rob Wilson fan but maybe you’re right

Good thing the Teddy Bear Toss was Thursday night :)))

At what point does Wilson seat start to get hot?
Should've been a while ago. Couldn't get Merkley under control. Couldn't get Guryev under control. Othmann taking selfish penalties down 2 goals late in the 2nd early in his Petes career.. Great coaches get everyone to buy in. Good coaches get the top guys to buy in. He can't do either apparently. But you can't bring in any worthwhile coach mid-season

I completely agree with the last part there. At this point it makes no sense to try to tread lightly and play the deadline conservatively. Like cleodog said the next few years are going to be full on rebuild regardless so lets ensure that we are as all in as it gets and truly go for it. Can't remember a team this good in a long time.
Shane Write no thanks we need defenceman who can play good defence
