Agreed. The third and fourth lines will be pretty good. If we can run four lines with quick shifts, this will help rest our top guys who also play PP and SH situations. Then again the PP can draw from two lines once we have Avon back. . Mayer and McCoy are doing pretty good on the PP but neither are really your classic "quarterback" defensemen. Mayer's two goals were snipes and that is another plus, to set him up for one-timers.Panwar is a perfect OA add.......a guy trying to prove to NHL teams that he is worthy of a contract.
He passed up an opportunity to sign a minor league contract, so he will really push himself to have a big year.
The depth the Petes have is impressive.
The nice thing is that the Spearing situation (injury & possible OA upgrade) and the goalie depth situation (possibly adding an OA for stability) do not need to be immediately addressed. This roster will be competitive to start the year as is.
I do feel bad for the younger guys who are getting their ice-time squeezed with additions (Panwar) and players returning (Stillman, Guryev and Avon, Purdeller eventually). The young guys have shown pretty well so far.
