Not going to lie......he's a talented player but when his helmet fell off and he continued to skate around and get involved in the play I was screaming at the TV: "Go to the bench!". but he didn't listen.
Reminded me of my kids actually.
You weren’t alone… I may have yelled more than once at him during the tournament :sarcasm:

Tons of talent but immature.

Random notes..........

- First off, I have to thank GM Mike Oke 🙏.
Despite his lack of draft picks he was proactive with all of his trades this year.
Aug. 8 - acquires Lockhart and his unrealized potential from Erie (see Emmett Sproule)
Oct. 3 - gets Panwar as an OA from Flint who had 4
Nov. 12 - gets Othmann from Flint for Guryev + picks
Jan. 7 - Hayes, White and Beck for 4 players and picks he had left

The Othmann trade was early and not many saw it coming and now Hayes, White and Beck prior to Wright and Morrison deals. Realizing the cost for Morrison & Wright would be too much with no opportunity to recoup picks he pivoted and made his move.

Most trade deadlines I rarely sleep well the 3 or 4 days prior but I slept like a baby last night and will for the next two.

- Congrats to former Pete, Alex Pharand:sarcasm: on his highlight reel goal last night
OHL Play of the Night Presented by MilkUP: Phenomenal Pharand! – Ontario Hockey League

- I'm beginning to wonder if JR Avon is psychic
Back at the TDL 3 years ago (Jan. 9, 2020) the Petes were making a trade with the IceDogs for Akil Thomas and I believe that Avon was part of an initial deal that was agreed upon. As a rookie, JR had the ability to use his NTC and did. As a result the Petes pivoted to Butler instead. Unfortunately COVID appeared and put an end to the Petes championship hopes. Avon is from Peterborough, was still attending the same highschool with his friends from before his OHL draft and was struggling to adjust to the OHL so I understand using the NTC.

But what if the actual reason he used the NTC was because he can see the future?! :scared:
He knew that the season would be cancelled.
He knew that going to the IceDogs might not be the best for his future.
He knew that he would be a late bloomer who would sign with the Flyers as a free agent because of his impressive speed and skill.
He knew that Oke would make deals to strengthen the Petes' core group to make a run at an OHL championship this season.

On second thought, maybe Avon was a big fan of Akil Thomas (with Thomas scoring the GWG in the gold medal game) and just wanted to meet him and be his teammate and that's why he used his NTC!

Anyone else think the return for Del Mastro was low compared to other trades?
I am still a bit baffled by the return for DBB and Del Mastro combined. I think what we saw this deadline was the value of players and in particular '05s and '06's. Martone, JVV, Lardis all worth at least 2 2nds, 2 3rds and teams felt more confident acquiring players and seeing the value as what a pick would be.

At first thought when I saw the DBB/Del Mastro return I was expecting Martone, MacDonell and 2+ 2nds, 2+ 3rds but it just shows the value and weight that players had this deadline

Yes Oke has done very well. I was asking questions about the coaching only a month ago when the Petes had a losing streak going. Oke obviously waited that out smartly. At the time the Petes were playing all the top teams and losing. This next game vs a re-built Sarnia team will be a big test on Thursday.

I don't know if Avon is psychic but he has truly become a legit player in this league with his incredible ability to accelerate and create chances and also very effective on the PK. The only thing I would change is his penchant for puck turnovers though he is getting better at that.

I think the return was shocking-wayyy lower than expected.

Makes me feel like we overpaid -
I don’t think so. They both are done after this season and they still got 2 1st round picks from the ‘05 and ‘06 draft (as well as a 2nd and 2 4ths). They were technically two separate deals which paired with our talk about player values being at least 2 2nds 2 3rds, for half a season of these two guys is pretty fair value. Arcuri, Harrison and Zhilkin (minus fishman) all only went for picks, and in most cases was 2 2nds and 3 3rds which is essentially the value of an ‘05/‘06 first rounder.

Mississauga got 2 first rounders in this deal with DBB not likely to have netted one on his own. Sure the deal doesn’t look ‘huge’ on paper but you have to remember the value that ‘05/‘06 first rounders carry. Looking at it that way, one could technically argue that the deal was 5 2nds, 6 3rds and 2 4ths which is a very high price for half a season of two players. Martone and MacDonell are simply the living picks which is very valuable.

Mississauga also has 9 2nds in the next 4 drafts so the prioritization of higher end ‘05/‘06 players makes sense and at this point probably provides the same if not more values to the present and future of the team.

Top 5 selected 16 yr old (second time ever?) and a 2nd pick (this year) is an excellent return

Big time. I think people need to understand there is a big difference between Pharand as a 14th overall pick and Martone as a 5th overall pick Or VanVolsen as a 6th overall pick in what is considered a high end draft.

Dickinson went for three 2nds, three 3rds, and a 5th. Plus Niagara gets the comp 1st. Each of Martone and VanVolsen are worth that plus because there is no comp pick in the equation.

Wait until you see Martone……

Hopefully a win for Sarnia, but an easy win for Missy.
I am sorry -I didn’t mean to slight Martone.

Martone is going to be an absolute Superhero in this league -he is so composed and talented-so intelligent and he has amazing hockey smarts.

But I feel he is similar to JVV and we had to give him up with picks -but perhaps Martone is more talented?

I am a big Martone fan -love all of our local lads.

Mr. Oke. We still need a backup goalie in case Simpson goes down or has a few bad
games. With all of the assets that the Petes have acquired this insurance is necessary. This is not a slam on Sztusta but too much to put on a rookie goalie.

How many cards have the Petes used; it must be very near 30?

This is actually a serious question -Do we have any legitimate picks/players left to offer?

I am not being sarcastic or rude -but do we have anything left to offer ?

I am asking because why the heck hasn’t Shane Wright been traded yet ?

Are the Petes still in it ?
Is the Othmann bond that strong ?

Doubtful. Unless it’s just a player for player type swap which is possible

What player? We already traded Van Volsen and Lardis, whjo are the only 2 that could have begun a convo for Wright. That ship has sailed. I think Oke is still 1 D-man short but the deadline isnt here yet. Would like to get Hache from fronts or Sharp from the fish

Something similar to the Owen sound soo deal earlier today where it’s just 1 player for 1 player or maybe another depth piece for a late pick
