There seems to be a pretty big benefit to coming to Peterborough and playing for the midget Petes.
It’s certainly looking that way…There seems to be a pretty big benefit to coming to Peterborough and playing for the midget Petes.
As I’ve been watching the scrimmages and even leading up to the camp this past week, I still truly have no idea what they are going to do with the goaltending situation. Both Simpson and Sztuska are competent starters so I really have no idea what they will do. Either way, we will have a top starter in the league this season so at least there is thatYah I don't want to be Wilson figuring out goaltending
Gotta be flint or London and ideally we get a forward in return that bumps some of these new kids down on the depth chart. Don’t want them to get overwhelmed too soon.OAs?......must be down to 4 at the start of the season, can only dress 3 per game, must be down to 3 at trade deadline
Simpson, Lockhart, Mayer, Gauvreau, Dubois
IMO....it would be great if they could trade Simpson in the pre-season for good value but I'm worried that the OA goalie market is flooded and teams who may need an OA goalie are not feeling any urgency to make a deal until they see what they have.
Brantford (Drobac), Sarnia (Gaudreau), and/or Barrie (West/Thornton) will be looking to deal their OA keepers. If Oke can't make a deal for Simpson in the pre-season that he is happy with then one of the other 4 will have to be dealt.
Then IMO, the Petes start Simpson every 2nd game (?) and when he plays, one of the other three are out of the lineup. This creates a really big logjam in goal, especially with Quizi playing so well in camp after a solid OJHL season. This is not ideal for any of the OAs, but all 5 have value in the league, especially coming off an OHL championship.
Teams who might be looking for an OA goalie?
Kingston - has 05 and 06 goalies; has only 2 OAs presently
Guelph - has two 05 goalies; has 3 OAs presently
London - has an 04, 05 and 07 goalies; has 4 OAs presently but two are low on the depth chart on defense
Flint - has 05 and 06 goalies; has only 2 OAs presently
I guess we'll wait and see how things shake down
I 100% think kingston is going to be getting one of your guys. All would be great additions to the team here. I’d love Simpson here. The only one of that group I’d be sceptical about Would be Gauvreau but with kingston only having 2 OA’s and likely callens won’t stick around the whole year. I’d be shocked if we don’t pick up one of your guys.OAs?......must be down to 4 at the start of the season, can only dress 3 per game, must be down to 3 at trade deadline

Velliaris elite prospects page certainly isn’t pretty but let’s hope they can use him in a simple shutdown role.We have more signings!!
Brennan Faulkner, Brody Partridge, Brayden Velliaris, and Dylan Woulds
Big kid who has been playing with and against older players the past 2 years in the OJHL. Nice signing by OkeVelliaris elite prospects page certainly isn’t pretty but let’s hope they can use him in a simple shutdown role.
My guess is that Tucker Robertson will also be in the mix. Where else is he going to play? A lot of decisions to be made.OAs?......must be down to 4 at the start of the season, can only dress 3 per game, must be down to 3 at trade deadline

Coachella valley firebirds (Seattles AHL team) which I believe he is now eligible for and the last 2 years in the ohl has put up 81+ points per year while being great defensively and on faceoffs I highly doubt he is back in the ohlMy guess is that Tucker Robertson will also be in the mix. Where else is he going to play? A lot of decisions to be made.
Thanks for posting the link.
Lineup for tonight's game has been posted.
While this would normally be true… their depth chart is loaded with forwards.. he was drafted as a Re-entry and coachella was very good last year. We will see.Coachella valley firebirds (Seattles AHL team) which I believe he is now eligible for and the last 2 years in the ohl has put up 81+ points per year while being great defensively and on faceoffs I highly doubt he is back in the ohl
I agree he likely will be going to London if any team but I think kingston and Saginaw have to be the 2 runner ups for sure. Definitely think he’s going to be in a different sweater than the Pete’s one by the end of the yearAs y’all know I hate trades.
However, the one comfort I have -our players are worth more than we think and I hope we are paid dearly for our lads.
We are champions with “experience“ which is coveted by many teams, we know what it takes and we can compete/win.
Last year teams clamoured for Bulldogs -every team wanted one because of their experience etc
I would expect that this year our lads are the prize players everyone wants.
If we have to part with Simpson then I hope he goes to London - where he would have a serious chance of going back to back and be the hometown hero.
I couldn’t take Simpson to Kingston or anyone in our conference.
Could be a rookie camp or main camp just a guess though. Believe he was drafted by VancouverThanks for posting the link.
I had a look and Lockhart isn’t listed on a line - so he isn’t dressed?
Don't forget about Guelph.......they will have their hands full with London, but it's George Burnett and if they could upgrade their two 05 goalies with Simpson and then get Allen back healthy part way through the season, they could be in the mix in the West.I agree he likely will be going to London if any team but I think kingston and Saginaw have to be the 2 runner ups for sure. An article in the Examiner a few days ago commented on how Lockhart was disappointed that he wasn't signed by Vancouver and that he had no NHL camp invites. He will be a good trade piece for the Petes this season.Could be a rookie camp or main camp just a guess though. Believe he was drafted by Vancouver
Petes coach Rob Wilson has said in a newspaper article that there is a chance the Petes could get Tucker Robertson back as an overage. I agree that Kingston could be a destination for one of our excess overages. Of the five that are expected to play as overages I expect that the Petes will keep Connor Lockhart, one of Sam Mayer or Cam Gauvreau and either Michael Simpson or Jax Dubois. If Tucker Robertson returns he will stay along with Lockhart and one of the defencemen likely Mayer.Coachella valley firebirds (Seattles AHL team) which I believe he is now eligible for and the last 2 years in the ohl has put up 81+ points per year while being great defensively and on faceoffs I highly doubt he is back in the ohl
Who is going to score? Beck, Lockhart (while they're here), then who can you expect to even approach 20 goals? I personally don't see it for Purdeller (10 last year). Maybe Melee (9) or Dubois (7) if he's here? I don't see a rookie doing it (I like McCallum but that's a lot to ask). Lefebvre isn't jumping from 2 to 25 (I really like him!! but It's very likely not happening!)Why would u think we trade all these guys we still have pieces to be competitive
I doubt Connor Lockhart will be traded. I can see Purdeller getting 20 plus goals with more ice time. Melee and Lefebvre production will also increase.Who is going to score? Okay, so let's be optimistic...I doubt Connor Lockhart will be traded. I can see Purdeller getting 20 plus goals with more ice time. Melee and Lefebvre production will also increase.
These are some very very optimistic outcomes and it’s still not a good offence. I highly doubt McCue and Page get 10. Now I wouldn’t be surprised if Faulkner gets 10-15.Okay, so let's be optimistic...
Beck 40
Lockhart 35
Purdeller 20
Melee 20
Dubois 15
Mayer 15
Lefebvre 15
McCallum 10
McCue 10

McCoy 7

That's still sub-Oshawa 22-23 offensive production (pretty damn bad)
Yes, thought McGrail had a very solid camp. Physical, great skater, moves pucks, strong kid, heavy point shot. Was a plus (+/-) player ever scrimmage i watched. Did they go with younger LD or want a taller D? Regardless the kid proved he could play in the O.I think the Petes have something in both Liam Ladds and Carson Cameron I was impressed by both today.
My prediction for further signings this evening McGrail, Vellaris, Larmand and Leek.
