Are the petes statistically out? Best case we're tied with one of the WHL teams and both best us.
The Petes are still in it. They win tonight they play the tie breaker on Thursday against the loser of the Seattle vs Kamloops game. The tie breaker game is the tie breaker to determine who finishes third. Head to head matchups or goals against ratio are not used to determine third place.

I'm sure the CHL is hoping the Petes win tonight. If they don't, then tomorrow night is a meaningless game because Seattle and Kamloops would play each other again in the semi-final.

Also, glad to see Simpson so far is back on his game. Only 10 shots as I write this, but a couple of good chances that he stopped.

I just want to be clear because I've seen it said elsewhere - if Peterborough wins tonight and tomorrow's game is decided in OT, are Petes still in the tie breaker game or is an OT loss tomorrow a factor?

Mike Oke definitely should be the General Manager if the Year. He built a winner first by drafting players like Shawn Spearing, JR Avon, Tucker Robertson, Michael Simpson, Donovan McCoy Konner Smith, Chase Lefebvre, Liam Sztuska, Sam McCue, Quenton Page and Braydon McCallum in the OHL Draft, Brian Zanetti and Tommy Purdeller in the import draft and Sam Mayer in the U18 Draft. He also drafted other good players that were traded for numerous elite players we were able to using those players and draft picks Mike made many excellent trades to complete this team. Starting last year by trading for Jonathan Melee and Chase Stillman, obtaining Connor Lockhart in the off season and trading for veteran players like Brennan Othmann, Avery Hayes, Gavin White, Owen Beck and Cam Gauvreau during this season. Because of the lost season because of Covid he did not possess the draft picks that he would have had, if he had been able recoup some in trades that he would most likely made in that lost season when they were expected to be in a rebuilding season. No one deserved this award more than Mike Oke did!!!
If I had a dollar for every time I read on this thread that both Oake and Wilson should be fired, I’d be wealthy….so now to say he was shafted? Maybe? They both did a fantastic job this year, even thru all the over reaction and panic from the home fans..

I, for one, never said that either should be fired because in my opinion Rob Wilson is the best coach the Petes have had since Dick Todd and Mike Oke the best GM since Dick. I have to admit I was disappointed with the post deadline record but I always felt that Petes would come alive in the playoffs. With these two running the team I believe that the Petes will be again in contention in the next cycle provided the rebuild goes well.

I think the overloooking of Petes coaches and GMs for awards goes back decades. How does Dick Todd who in my opinion was the OHL’s best coach in his era only win coach of the year once in 14 seasons. Jeff Twohey should of won general manager of the year in 1996 for assembling the Petes OHL Championship and Memorial Cup host team.

I liked Dick Todd for sure but I think the Best Coach in that era goes to Kilrea. I think the Hockey Hall of Fame guy gets the nod, especially when he’s the only one to get in there as primarily a Junior coach.

That was a very good game from the Petes, regardless of Quebecs effort level. Looked like the team that we saw in the OHL playoffs with strong d zone coverage and really playing the “boring hockey” well. Capitalized on our chances and Simpson made some very timely saves. Doesn’t get any easier Thursday night, but a much better step to take tonight.

In the era between 1986 and 1993 Dick Todd was the better coach in my opinion. The Petes finished first in the Leyden Division four times and won the Hamilton Spectator Trophy twice. They only finished out of the top three in the division, once in those years. In the playoffs they went to final four, seven out eight seasons and played in three OHL championships series winning it twice. In the playoffs the Petes won all four playoff series against the 67s with a 12-3 record. Sweeping two of the series. All of the Petes teams when he coached finished above .500 and never missed the playoffs. Brian Kilrea was a great coach but Dick was the premier coach in the league at the time. If Dick Todd had continued in Major Junior Hockey he could have reached Killer’s lengendary status.

There is a good chance they will play Kamloops in the tie breaker and will be highly motivated against them because they ran the score up on the them on Sunday.

You can’t choose a specific 8 year period and call it an era. If you are going to choose an era, it should be at least 15-20 years.

You could say during Todd’s 8 year behind the bench he was the most successful coach but to anoint him the best of his era seems a little off base.

If that’s the case there are tons of highly successful coaches over a relatively short period of time through the history of the OHL. You can’t break it down into eras.

I agree about Dick Todd though. Great coach. Even when he returned to the bench years later he had success. Love that guy. Much respect.

It is also very possible that he’d have been right there and maybe even surpassed Killer in total wins. The challenge would be whether his style would have evolved with the times. Killer still managed to coach well but his GM status was atrocious over his last 10 or so seasons. Sort of tarnished his coaching record. He did it to himself though.

Killer left on 1984 for the NHL and returned in 1987 and had to rebuild the team after it went in the toilet. Took a little while before he started his runs in the mid-90’s.

In the era I referenced Brian Kilrea was one of my favourite non Petes coaches. Ottawa had some good teams starting in 1986. He inherited a good team when he returned in 1986. They had traded several veteran players for younger players such as Frank DiMuzio, Guy Larose and Warren Rychel in the 1985-1986 season. Other additions were Dave Rowbotham and Brett Battistelli.,His replacement GMs was able to draft some good players like Kent Hawley, Mike Griffith, Rick Lessard and Ransom Drcar. It was the coaching that was the issue not the players while he was away in the NHL. In the 1986 draft he drafted Andrew Cassels, Jeff Ballantyne and John East. He had a good team in 1987-1988 and 1990-1991. From what I saw Killer started to have consistent success again starting in the 1995-1996 season. He had, had consistent success in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After he came back from New York his teams were up and down until his first retirement as coach. He seemed to return to more consistent success after that first retirement. In regards to Dick Todd his coaching style evolved with the times while he was the Petes coach and had he stayed with the Petes it would have continued to evolve.

This is a fan page. I’m a Petes fan but also an OHL fan. All I said was there are great young guys coming up. I mentioned Page because of what he did last game which shows there’s something to be excited about for Petes fans seeing young guys contribute when they can and what they might have to offer. You decided to hop on here and bash the poor young player. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you won’t hear me belittle a 17 year old that’s playing with mostly 19 and 20 year olds. And I use Avon as an example as everyone bashed him when he was younger but he has come out to be a star on this team and the stats are all there for you to see if that’s what you like to do. I can also use Evangelista from London as an example if you prefer talking about other teams but this is the Petes page. You should maybe hop on Kingston page if that’s what Ktown is? Kingston has many young players coming up too. It really showed how tough this league is for young players when older guys were traded and Kingston had a rough year after that. I didn’t hop on here and bash that but the stats are there to show it. Better luck next year. Petes are in the Memorial cup right now. Go Petes Go!
An OHL fan, and Pete’s fan and a relative of Page.

Just a fan my friend. I’ve also commented on other good young players coming up. Seems to be a lot of jealous haters out there seeing some of these young players seizing their opportunities. The Petes have done a great job scouting/developing players as someone mentioned in an earlier post. It’s an exciting time to be a Petes fan. Go Petes Go!

These 2 WHL teams battling it out tonight hoping to win so they don’t have to face the Petes tomorrow. I’m sure they know the Petes weren’t at their best when they played them and they saw what the real Petes can and will do last night.
